I have TMPGENC Plus and use on a Windows system.

A friend has a CD burner but an apple system.

If I encode DVD MPEG2 standard mpegs, put them on a couple of CD's and take them to his place can I create a DVD from that?

He is using Apple's DVD Studio Pro and the way he currently uses it is the application merges separate video and audio streams. The QuickTime plug-in creates two separate streams, one for video and one for audio which DVDSP then imports and merges as part of the formatting process.

Can I use the TMPGENC encoded mpegs for the video input and perhaps separate wave files (I already have) for the audio input?

    It should work just fine.

If you bring the audio over in wav format you'll need to run them through A.Pack to convert them to .ac3 format. I'm not sure if A.Pack will handle .wav files, but I know it will accept .aiff files

Thanks Craig but can I assume the MPEGs won't get re-encoded again?

Because that is the whole point of encoding them myself.

For example I also have the Nero MPG2 encoder but I turn it off before making SVCDs at home. If I don't turn it off Nero re-encodes them with it's encoder and the quality becomes not as good.

  7. If you are making DVD's you will have to author them for DVD. Although SVCD isn't in the DVD spec it may still play ok on your DVD player.

Thanks again Craig and yes, these MPEG2's are using the PAL DVD template, CQ 100 and the slowest (highest quality) coding settings.

My illustration with Nero was simply to show a parallel example. I did not with to use the internal MPG2 encoder on his system because I make the assumption my MPEG2s will be better because I have found TMPGENC to give the best quality in the types of videos I make. They have lots of movement in them (dancesport).
