You can get a Video Slide show VCD and store away all your precious jpeg pictures from your digital camera in a Single CD.
This takes about 15 second to setup. The only software you need is 63.9% of us alreay have : Nero.
1. Open Nero's VCD template.
2. Check [x] on "store picture in picture folder".
3. Drag all your jpeg into VCD work space.
4. Select all, and change properties from "wait infinite" to "wait 1 second".
5. Burn the VCD.
6. Put the VCD into a DVD player, Press "play".
7. It will show a picture every second on yout TV.
8. If you need to print or send any pictures in the original resolution, just get it from "picture" folder on this CD.
The folks at Nero did a great job, but not too many of us figure this out. They should adertise this more, because there are so many digital cam users out there that can use this well written application and approach.[/b]

ONE second, R U kidding????
I did a slide show using NERO but I used 5 seconds min per slide. some slides I used about 8 seconds. Kinda hard to view a slide at 1 sec intervals. They jsut flash by all too fast.

This is a bit fiddley, you need to add/encode each picture, but at least you have control over the what the the output will look like.

I'm not sure about VCDEasy, but Easy VCD, a different product is the best easy software I have ever used.

No offense but burning all your jpeg files to nero is boring. You're just watching your pictures without any effects or background music. I use vegas video for my still pictures. You can add title, transition effects, background music, etc.

@ SingSing: we know that you think that Nero's option of making a VCD with MPEG Stills is great. However, it is hardly a new feature and people have been using it for yonks. I also wouldn't set the pause time to "1 second" either unless you want your photos flying by... Unless Nero actually stuffs up the timing as well...
As for VCDEasy, it is definitely one of the best GUIs / XML authoring aids available and you can use it to make VCDs far superior to most of the commercial alternatives.
However, the age when the computer can scan your brain for what you want and automagically create the disc is not with us yet. You will have to spend some time LEARNING how it works...

Hi,
What I am really surprise of, is that with both VCDEasy or Nero you cannot create a real menu that you can scroll and choose the batch of pictures you want to see.
I mean, if I upload 1000 pictures on a CD and they are coming from different folders, say X, Y, Z, I really would like to have the chance to choose on a main menu page to look for example to folder Y and go straight there.
Am I missing something or just both the applications cannot manage this?
Thank you for your comments.

ooops...I forgot another question.
Is it possible that I cannot import JPEG still pictures with VCDEasy instead of being obliged to go through MPEG conversion?
Thanks again.
Alex -
@Metallo:
You're just barely missing something--VCDEasy can AUTHOR the menus you want AND MORE, it just isn't capable (yet) of creating them. Another VCDImager GUI-TSCV is somewhat capable, but it's incomplete. For the most part, they leave it up to you to CREATE the still that is to be used for the menu, and ENCODE it from jpg/bmp.. into an MPEG still.
Lots of folks here would rather have a template or wizard to guess what you want or to give some stock pattern that is usable in a flash. That's fine for those who want it that way. I don't. I want the best quality, the most customizable, complete control. You can't get that for VCD with Nero/EZCD/Ulead/Picture2TV. And the fact that it's GNU homegrown makes VCDEasy/VCDImager tops in my book.
My guess is you want something with more features, but still with a pre-determined setup. I would recommend WinOnCD (probl v3.8power). Good luck trying to find it/get it now.

Cornucopia,
Thank you for your comments.
That was my feeling as well, I think you can do a lot with VCDEasy, but you really need to learn how to do it.
Of course to have a template is the easiest way particularly because you do not have to study that much.
Could you please give me some suggestion on how to start to do that on my own?
I really miss the point how to start, do I need to work on the XML document?
If you give me a starting point maybe I can manage and also get some help from the forum.
Thank you!

Consider this :
* There are a lots of people who has/use a digital camera, and need a easy ways to view and store their digital pictures away.
* The procedures use a very popular software, that create a VCD on CDR/W. which is nearly universally playable.
* It shows the pcitures in video quality, and yet retains all the pictures in its origial resolutions and size in a folder.
* Most digital camera owners take thousand of pciture, per year, a quick slide show is great to figure out, which CD contains the jpeg file/s that freinds have asked for.
So far, everyone confirm it work. If "one second" is not your choice, leave it at infinite, and use you remote to click it through.
Also, This is the only posting achieve results in 5 steps in Nero. I wonder what does it takes to do this in the other popular program - EasyCD creator.
Let's VCDHELP be a cosntructive place. Post somethings useful, like many before us, instead of crossing (s)words. -
Sing Sing,
I can see your point of view, but I still prefer "quality to quantity" even if it takes longer.
Nero does a good job, I agree but it is true that a better job can be done.
I think the guys of VCDEasy and VCDImager are doing a great work and I am willing to learn, to test and to give them my feedback which will help them to improve and make things easier for all of us, including less demanding clients like you.
Thanks for your comments.

Metallo,
1st-Read the VCDImager Guides
Then, use some program that is EZ (e.g. Nero, Picture2TV, Ulead?) and that you kinda like. Make a test VCD that has features that you want. Burn a disc or disc image.
Using VCDXRip (sp?), deconstruct the disc into its equivalent XML structured file. Then read how it is put together and improve upon it with your own.
That's where I'd start.
(Sorry for the delay in answering, have been sick and missed the response)
Good luck,

You can try Photo2VCD Professional. It's very easy to burn a photo CD with background music and transition effect.

cant you also use something like adobe premiere and instead of puttin in video just puttin stills in it and add some music, never tried just stills but i faded stills in and out on a video id imagine you could just use the stills and get awesome quality out of it

I have used Nero, VCDEasy and Picture DVD show.
The easiest is the picture DVD show, but I am wondering about the quality of the stills.
I noticed that the segment files created with Picture DVD show are much smaller then when you use the qualty option in VCDEasy.
I haven't tested what the files where in Nero. Some people I know have trouble with the VCD's nero creates in the form that the picture shimmers on normal TV's.
I would like the options Picture DVD show has for music, menu's and slideshows but I want quality also.
What program gives the best quality Stills??
-RD -
the best one i've found is actually in one of the worst burning software you can find.. Easy CD CReator 5.0 platinum.. Very nice slideshow features though.. add music. change transitions.. add titles.. etc.. give it a shot.. and it's just what it is.. EASY CD CREATOR!

I assume you guys also want to keep the original jpeg on the same CD, which is typically 1.3, 2.1, or 5.0 meg resolution.
Is this done with an option, or you can create an additional folder, and drag them in ?
Don't laugh on this one idea, I think we should make a jpeg still with the message says :
"All pictures are availabled in the pictures folder. Print or E-mail us." -
Does any one know an easy way to burn photos to dvd and playback on standalone that wont play vcds? ie ps2 and sanyo
Thanks in advance and happy xmas -
Hy,
for those who like photo CD, I'd like to advice that Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2 has a built-in SlideShow....
But I have a question for all guys. Don't shame me, because it is a beginner question:
I have 77 jpegs in only one folder... it is easy to create an album with DVDMF, PictureShow or DVD PhotoPlay and burn into a CD-RW... But how to save the album to burn in a later time, when more albuns are created and then burn the 2 or more albuns, in same time, in same software, as DVDPictureShow reports to be able to handle up to 99 albuns with 99 (or 1900) pictures?
