  1. I am trying to back up my copy of "John Grisham's The Rainmaker" and am having problems.

Even just keeping the English 2 channel with no subs and cutting the last chapter (end credits) produces a 4.5 GB folder, so I decided to re-encode and used this guide as I usually do:

    http://www.digital-forums.com/dvd2dvdr/

I noticed that when I pressed F5, the Frame Type would rapidly switch from Progressive to Interlaced throughout the process, and the Info box would say "V.E.!" This usually never happens.

I followed the rest of the steps correctly, and the DVD Title Set plays perfectly on the computer. However, on my player, it stutters, and won't play the video for more than a second or two, if ever.

What did I do wrong? I have a feeling that I need to use different settings when encoding.

Is there a different way of doing things so I can backup this DVD? Ideally, I would like to keep the English 5.1 track and English Subtitles.

    Thanks in advance!

  2. Hmm. I'm thinking that maybe encoding as 23.97 with 3:2 pulldown (internally 29.97) might have been the mistake. But I really don't know.

    Someone here will.
