Has anyone made a working animated menu on a VCD or SVCD?
Like for instance, one that has different menu options with video and audio that loops in the background

I do this all the time with SVCDS. I usually try to recreate every feature of the DVD using the SVCD format. I have written a guide on it but its not quite finished and I don't really have the time. Its complete up to the stage where you author with Vcdeasy, but there are already several guides on that.

Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Over at VCDHelp.com I went to the "How to" "Author" and found this link:

    Works great for me.

  6. I made lots of animated menus, and sub-menus with VCDImager.
You have to code the structure in XML, which is a bit tough at first, but it offers more flexability then VCDEasy and TCSV.

However, there is an VERY easy and quick way to 'cheat' at making those VCD menus.

At the VCDImager webpage, and is a listing of 15 different XML structures, for all difference kinds of menu configurations.
Download one that is similar to what you want... change all the MPEG file names over to your MPEG/JPEG/etc files.
Create an IMAGE file with that XML.. Burn with NERO, whatever..

    Very easy.
THe harder part is getting different animated menus to flow into each other seamlessly..

  7. As what everyone else has stated: YES

To get them to look good, you will have to author the MPEG yourself (or cheat by ripping menus off DVDs).

Furthermore, you will probably have to author the XML by hand to get it tweaked to your liking...

For more info on manual authoring of XML: http://www.michaeltam.com

@ hp_lovecraft: I'm glad that someone actually uses those XML samples that I wrote! There may be a few errors in some of the earlier ones though... Basically, anywhere that has the loop jump timing set as "delayed" you should replace with "immediate"...

    Regards.
