To try to help get my DVD9 to DVD5, I am thinking about re-encoding 6 ch AC3 soundtracks. Since the bits are distrubuted over 6 channels, would the audio quality be the same for 6 ch as for 2 ch stereo at 1/3 the bitrate? Say the 6 ch audio bitrate is 384 kbps, would this compare to the quality of 2 ch stereo at (2/6) or 128 kbps? If thats not true, what would the lowest I could put my 6 ch bitrate to compare to say stereo 128 kbps or 160 kbps? These are the lowest I go for stereo audio when really trying to squeeze on to SVCD. It sounds resonable in theory but I would really like to hear from somebody who has actually done some 6 ch re-encoding to determine if it is worth the time.
