  1. I remember reading an posting regarding a way that TempGenc will
convert an AVI to MPG (SVCD). Then tricking the .MPG into believing
it's a VCD instead, even though the quality is SVCD.

Does anyone have the steps on how to do it? I know how to use
TMPGENC but just need to know the trick.

I want to play it on my Stand alone DVD Player but it doesn't support SVCD

    thanks,
    Randy

after creating your svcd mpeg2 - do a simple multiplex as nonstandard video cd like this

  3. When creating the SVCD do I need to change the RATE CONTROL MODE
or the BITRATE to make it work with the header trick. So it will play
    as VCD

The rate control mode is really a personnal choice, i use constant b/c it takes less time but others argue that 2-pass vbr will give better results. so that is really up to you. as far as bitrate settings i use a tool called Fitcd (located in the tools section here) it will tell you what to set bitrate at depending on how many discs your using and so forth. If you use the default settings you can get about 40 min of movie on one SVCD. i generally put around 55 min on one cd ( which is a bitrate around 1850)

  5. I gave it a try and it didn't work.

I converted the .avi to with the following settings

2 PASS VBR and 1850 for BITRATE

When it's done i do the Simple Multiplex and specific MPEG1 Video-CD

but when it's done converting I get an error
318346 s packet cause buffer underflow the mpeg might cause
    errors when playing.

When I try to burn it, it tells me it's not VCD complaint and won't burn properly.

I am using Tmpgenc 2.58+ and Nero 554.

I also noticed I can't see any video (only audio) unless i look at
the file though my dvd software. Then it's fine. It's look like it
    didn't convert to VCD properly.

    Any ideas.

    Thx

It didn't work for me either.

I converted avi to MPEG2 then ran simple multiplex using MPEG-1 ViceoCD in TMPGEnc. All went well.

Went to burn in Nero("Write CD") and it gave me the msg "The video file ... is not video CD compliant. The video will be re-encoded to Video CD format before burning."

It did it all. I looked at on my PC and yes, as explained it was 'blocky green screen." I went to DVD player... WOW... its still blocky green screen. Audio ran great, but video was nothing but blocks.

    Any ideas, anyone?

  7. There should be an option to ignore nero's warning and not reencode the file.

    1. When you multiplex your SVCD with TMPGEnc, select 'MPEG-1 Video-CD (non-standard)' .

    2. When burning with NERO, create Video-CD and un-check the box 'Create standard compliant CD'.

This should work (assuming your DVD will play this type of file). A couple of months ago i returned a Daewoo 5800 because it would not play this type of file without studdering.

  10. I have speed problem.
I converted avi to SVCD with TMPEGEnc then made simple multiplex using
    MPEG-1 ViceoCD (non-standart) in TMPGEnc.
After that i burned with Vcdeasy as VCD V2 , All went well.
When i play it with my home DVD plyer (LG) i get this:
If i make the convertion with CBR 2520 i get speed/2 , movie
of 1 min becomes slow to 2 min. (like each frame twice)
If I make convertion with VBR 1950 (2 pass VBR) movie
of 1 min becomes to 1.5 min.
If I make convertion with VBR 1600 (2 pass VBR) movie
of 1 min becomes to 1.25 min.
If I make convertion with VBR 1246 (2 pass VBR) movie
of 1 min stay 1 min, but poor picture...
I guess there is buffer problem somehow , and DVD
home player get underflow and make "repeat"
    to some frames.
I tried mux as regular MPEG-1 ViceoCD (not the special non standart)
and it was worse , I got the movie with many skips...
Any idea how to fix this problem ?

  11. ariks,

Your DVD player probably has a maximum bitrate of 1200-1300 for playing VCD's. All DVD player have bitrate limits for playing VCD/SVCD files.

Click the 'DVD Players' link on the left. Search for your DVD player. If it is listed, you may find info about your players limitations.

  12. Hi wway
Thanks for your help, at least i m sure now that the problem with the DVD player and not with my steps.
I didn't find my model LG 3351P in the vcdhelp site,
After looking in the net i found in:
    http://members.lycos.co.uk/ittroll/vcd.htm
...LG DVD-3351P, which is the East European version of the 3350E...
btw, in the link above there is way to hack some DVD player to play VCD
    mine play VCD anyway..
I guess there is no way to hack it and make it works with high bitrate
so I can make SVCD only with poor bitrate...sux...
