Please help - system freezes during capture - winxp

I have been having lock up problems for ages. System freezes at random times during capturing. If i did a fresh install of winxp - it would capture fine for a few times then the lockups would start again. I have tried everything - via 4in1 drivers, pci latency drivers, other capture cards. This is driving me mad. The lock ups only occur if video and audio is captured together. capture video fine for hours on its own.
Is this a problem with via chipsets or winxp maybe. Please, if someone has had the same problems and managed to fix it - please let me know.

p4 2.20g - ecs p4svxd2 (via chipset) motherboard
512 meg ram - 120gig 7200rpm hd
i have used avertv and wintv capture cards

This probably won't help a lot but may get you going in the right direction

Do a search through the capture forum for Via chipset. When I was looking for something else I saw a few threads on this chipset causing problems and I also saw something about a patch. Sorry I can't remember exactly where......
