Hi !
I have a somewhat difficult question. I apologize for all the text here:
How can I make a moving/sliding menu? I've seen such menus on
"Jerry Maguire Special Edition" and "Lord of the Rings Extended Edition"
I try to describe "moving/sliding menus" now:
Let's asume you have a virtual large table (from above
you look straight on the table) as a menu. The main menu
(you're actually seeing so far) shows only a small part in
the center of the table!
Now you click on a button and you slide (let's say) to the left
all the time seeing the table from above. When you stop
sliding you see another part of the table as another menu.
Important is that you see the table all the time NOT fading
out on the main menu and fading in at the other menu!
Maybe I could make a short video clip which shows the main menu part
first then comes the sliding and the last frame looks like the second menu.
Clicking on the button in the main menu activates the clip and as end
action it shows the second menu!
QUESTION:
How can I create such a sliding video if I have this virtual big table as *.bmp?
How can I tell a "720*576(PAL) pixel part" to slide along the way I want
it to on this 6000*6000 pixel "table"-picture to become an *.avi-file?
All suggestions are highly appreciated!!!
THANKS A LOT!!!!!
Medical
P.S.: Of course it doesn't need to be a table - it could also be e.g. a map etc.![]()

This is done with multiple menus. As soon as you clicked the first button, you jumped to another menu that starts where you left the last menu, then continues with the sliding thing. The second menu may or may not have any buttons - it may just time out to a third menu (with this one starting where the SECOND one left off).
Just because you hit a button that says "CHAPTER SELECTION" doesn't mean that you have to go directly there. In fact, with post selection menus like these, you ALWAYS go to a different, intermediate menu (or menus).
To visualize this better, take the VIDEO_TS.VOB or VTS_0X_00.VOB and load it into VOBRator, or IFOEdit and look at each of the VOB_ID's. You will see each and every one of the effects that appear seamless (they are not - there is a slight stutter) during menu selections.
This really isn't a difficult trick, but the effects can look really cool. -

THANKS for your answer!
I think I did get the point on how it can be done!
I am glad because now I know you - at least - understood what I tried to describe!
But HOW can I make such intermediate menus/video-clips?
Referring to my (second) question!

you can comp your bmp file with keyframes for the effect control with programs like fusion and shake or rayz where it would be easy . but im sure you could do it in after effects or vegas video even .. prob even in main actor where i think they have a free demo ..

There's at least 2 ways I would do what you want:
A.
1. Design in Photoshop (or similar) a picture that is 2160w x 1440h. That's 3x normal 720x480(NTSC). Use Guides at the 1/3 and 2/3 marks to help out. Put what you want on there-making sure that each "cubicle" has the buttons and info that will be needed.
2. Use ImageReady (comes w/ P'shop v5 and above) to Slice your picture along the guidelines. You'll end up w/ 9 images that tile seamlessly. ImageReady wants to output for Web use, but you can do with them as you will. Save as PSD or BMP or TIF or PNG to not degrade.
-or-
B. If you don't care about seamless, but want identical boilerplate that changes/morphs somewhat, Just make a master 720x480 PSD and do a SaveAs to BMP (whatever) for the various versions.
Here's the main part.
Using AfterEffects or Premiere or your choice, create movies from a "Push" between 2 still images. "Push" in this case means that the incoming image bumps up against the outgoing/former image and progressively forces it out of the viewing area. Most likely they'll be about 1-3 sec. long. You should have 24 movies if you just do horiz/vert adjacent tiles, or 40 movies if you include diagonals. Export as Uncompr or Lossless (remember these are REAL short already). Then Encode to MPEG.
For making DVD menus, they should have an instant automatically activated invisible button the moves it to the final or "resting" menu. You could make them titles, but there will probably be more of a pause before transitioning.
You could probably do (S)VCD menus similarly. You just have to start out with different resolution (you want them to be exactly what they'll end up as or there'll be blurring cuz of interpolation). And you may want to use the Next/Prev buttons for navigation in (S)VCD terms. This also happens to be a cool way to have your cake and eat it too, in terms of advanceable HiRez Slideshow VCD's with sound.
