  1. OK, I got at avi file and am trying to convert it as usual following the guide. Still and for the first time ever, virtualdub gives me an error when saving the wav reporting "acm reported error on audio decompress (b)"

    Here is the file info as reported by virtualdub

    Any ideas

  2. Try using Gspot to see if you have the right codecs installed. You can get it on the tools page on this web site.

  3. The strange thing is that I have all three DIVX codecs installed, the SCVD and the mp3 codecs as well.......are there any others???

  4. Seems that I have all codecs installed correctly, but whn I try and exctract the audio, same as above.....plus, if I try and encode it by chosing the avi as video and sound input in TMPGEnc I get a mute conversion without ANY sound what soever.....

    Any ideas would be much appreciated

    Virtual Dub might have problems with VBR mp3 audio, try using nandub instead

  9. v-dub DEFINETLY has problems with vbr audio. The only way you can use v-dub with vbr audio is to extract the audio track to wav and then re-encode it.

    Try that first, extract the audio track to wav. Afterwards, if you are converting to mpeg use something like tooLAME as an external encoder with TMPG. You will get good results

    hucka,
    any chance on you posting a small sample so that we can try a few
    things with it ??

    In vdub, just set the:
    * Video to "Direct stream copy" and do the same for
    * Audio
    * cut out a 1 munutes worth for example, and then save as a diff.
    filename, and
    * then post it somewheres.

    Later, we can try our hands at it, (or I can) and maybe come up with
    some ideas.

    I have a couple already, but would like to see for myself, if they
    will work or not.

    Yes, use Goldwave to extract the wav. It worked perfectly for me when VDUB, NANDUB and AVI2WAV would not or could not give me a useable wav file. I suspect it is a MP3 VBR Audio problem and I think a lot of people are looking for this solution.
    Open the AVI in Goldwave, then simply select Save to create the WAV. It took me quite a few hours to find this solution!
