    Can I create short dvd home movies (720x480 mpeg2) and burn them to standard cd-r media and expect them to play on any stand alond dvd players?

    You can create SVCD's with 720x480 mpeg-2, but it depends greatly on your DVD player. Note there are physical restrictions that prohibit most dvd player from playing back full DVD bitrates on standard CD-R's.
