  1. I downloaded a mpeg2 video file, which has excellent volume, but the audio is very faint.....turning volume up all the way still yields whispering dialogue. i don't have a divx or avi file, just hte mpg I downloaded, so using virtualdub won't work. I s ther a way to take the demuxed audio, boost the volume, then recombine it with the video?

If I use tmpgenc to demux into separate audio and video, I can use project wizard to recombine, and use audio settings to boost audio volume, but the time to take to recombine using 2 pass vbr or even cbr takes many many hours. Is there a way to take the audio and boost volume, then mux it with the video using the mpeg tools in tmpgenc?

    Thx

You need to seperate the streams. tmpeg--> mpeg tools--> demultiplex, save the .mpa or.mp2 file. then you need to convert that to a .wav. tmpeg can do that as well. then you'll need to normalize the audio in a program like cooledit or soundforge, then convert that back to an .mp2(I suggest toolame) then just to a multiplex back with the video stream.
depending on the size and speed of your system it could take a few min or longer. Just don't re-encode the whole file again. The project wizard is to re-encode, use mpeg tools from the file menu to access the the multiplex option
