  1. Can anyone tell me - what form are video files that are input using the Dazzle Hollywood Bridge and/or the ADVC-100 DV converter mentioned on p.43, 9/02 MacWorld mag.

Are the files .mov, .mpeg1, .mpeg2, or what?

Is there a device that will capture directly into .mpeg2 format?

I'm a neophyte preparing to take a plunge.

    Thanks for any info.

  2. It's a DV converter so I assume the files would be .dv. The same as if they were captured from a digital camera with iMovie or FCP.

  3. If you want to capture and convert at the same time, it will take a prog like FCP to do it. You can choose your type of compression. iMovie does not do this for you, it is uncompressed. But no real fear, I find QT files burned with iDVD to play just fine and have good quality. Even on a 56" widescreen!

The Dazzle Bridge is exactly what it says it is. It will transfer from many sources to your Mac to the prog you choose to use. It will conver analog to digital.

  4. yeah i use the dazzle dv bridge with my macs (it didnt work with any of my pcs, they just locked up :S ) and i have to say its supa sexai. the captured footage is .dv format, which i capture with BTVPro (www.benssoftware.com) then use the QT MPG2 encoder to convert to dvd mpg. Encoding at 9mbit takes about 40mins for 30minutes of footage on my dual 1ghz G4, and the quality of stuff captured from digital sattellite is AMAZING. Definatly the way to go if your into capturing TV eps for DVDs, though you might want to get a nice 120gb hd dedicated for captures...
