  2. I finally got a DVD-R burner (Pioneer A-04, sold as Cendyne) and will likely be using your program soon. Im waiting for a few more bugs to work out and I watch this forum/thread nearly every day. Sounds awesome so far and I cant wait to use it. I use DVD2SVCD right now and its magic. Cant wait to go to DVD-R. Im such a noob though, gonna be asking alot of questions. Im kinda spoiled in that Ive not had to do much by hand thanks to the DVD2SVCD program so having to IFOEdit by hand or something is a bit of a challenge. I have both CCE 2.5 and 2.64. Which is actually better for this?

  3. Another question. I have legit Nero (several copies actually with my various burners.) What do you guys recomend burning with?

Another question. Reading the spec sheet/require to use stuff on the box it says that AGP video only, no PCI or on board agp. Is that true?

    Thanks again,

  4. Question for all those in "the know"...

Forgive this noobie to dvd2dvd-r (i usually just rip then use dvd settings within dvd2svcd then use ifoedit to author a dvd).

    My questions is this...

Why does it take sooooo long to rip the dvd to HD? 1 hour 15 mins and only 30% ripped?

I can rip the whole dvd to hd in under 25 mins normally? This is a PAL dvd btw

    As usual maybe just me

One idea for possible future releases would be the choice to use a RIPPED dvd on a HD as the source?

Just a thought. dvd2dvr-r is an excellent idea - for got to mention that!

  5. I have the same problem,

using smartripper or dvd decrypter it rips at up to 15x and takes about 15 mins max, dvd2dvdr seems to only rip at about 1-2x which takes forever.

Has anyone solved this problem ?.

  6. Hi,

this is a really great program.

I tried to rip a dvd (sen to Chihiro) and when I play it back on a laptop or another computer, it plays great but when I put it on a standalone DVD player, I get a ghost image following the real image.

Do you have any idea what it could be?

Could you also please explain me how I can know the encode options because I have no idea what are upper field first, progressive frames, ...

And in the new version, what is force films?

    Many thanks,

    John.

To learn more about the "upper field first" or field dominance and also to learn more about interleave and "progressive" scan modes take a look at the following link

    one more comment:

On playback or export of interlaced video it's crucial to get the field order right (either upper field first, or lower field first) or you'll get your field order reversed, resulting in stuttering motion, and comb-like artefacts around the edge of moving elements.

    see: http://www.creativecow.net/articles/onneweer_barend/deinterlacing/

    some tips:

    1. first use bitrateviewer to determine the film type (progressive, interlaced)
    2. then go to DVD2DVD-R and set to progressive if the film is progressive and also to zig-zag. The CCE manual says to use zig-zag only for progressive scan, not interlaced.
    3. for interlaced try upper field first, but if the video is jumpy this may need to be reversed.

    4. MOST IMPORTANT. set DVD2DVD-R to force and encode. Then select a small part of your film (a chapter of approximately 3 to 5 minutes). Choose a chapter that have high motion and high contrast. Let the process run all the way through the encoder. It is not necessary to author the DVD, just use your PC player (WinDVD, PowerDVD, etc.). See if the film looks ok. If not, you may need to switch the upper field first.

  12. okay, first just let me say how awesome this program is. i really think that i have found what i have been searching for. although i would really appreciate a guide on "how to", i think i may be onto something. i read here in another reply about using this program and keeping the orginal menus and extras. so i gave it a try and it worked. the only problems that i am finding is when i use ifoupdate to bring the orginal ifo and the authored ifo together, i get an error,"Improper Video_TS_IFO file"

has anyone else used the ifoupdate method to keep all the orginal menus and extras and gotten this error. if not could you maybe tell me what i am doing wrong. i put the orginal, and the authored in and hit update. the other problem is when i check the finished movie out in say powerdvd, the chapters seems to be offset. i mean if i select *scene selection* and try to choose which one i want to see, the one i choose says one thing, but it plays another.

    any ideas?

  17. ok you asked for it

This was my method of backing up PAL Monsters Inc keeping everything.

Firstly I ripped the whole movie to hdd (Smartripper:Back up mode)

    1) I ran DVD2DVDR and selected just the movie files and English audio.

    2) The DVD minus the main movie was 1.67 gigs,so I wanted to leave 1800mb on the disc for extras, so I put this value in DVD2DVDR in the 'mb reserved' box

    3) I ran DVD2DVDR and the proggy ripped the main movie files and encoded to a size of 2.20 gigs

    4) I ended up with a new m2v file and ac3 file.

    5) These files were added into Maestro along with a chapter list I made with ChapterXtractor for the main movie.

    6) Maestro gave me a Video_ts folder with my new vobs, and ifo's etc....

    7) I renamed the vobs in the maestro folder to the name of the main movie vobs in the Smartripper folder...i.e vts_01_1.vob, became vts_13_1.vob, etc...,etc.....

8 ) I then deleted the original movie vobs in the Smartripper folder and copied the renamed vobs from the maestro folder into the Smartripper folder. COPY OVER ONLY!!!! THE VOBS....NOTHING ELSE!!!

9)I then selected all the files in the Smartripper folder to see their size, and they came out at 4.2 gigs........PERFECT!!

    10) I ran ifoupdate, selected original movie IFO from the folder Smartripper made, and selected the authored IFO from the folder Maestro had made. I clicked 'IFO UPDATE', and the proggy automatcally 'CORRECTS VTS SECTORS.

    11) Finished. I now have a VIDEO_TS folder containing all the extras and menus and a main movie which had been encoded to fit with the rest of the DVD structure to get below 4.3 gigs.

    12) I burnt using Nero, cos for some reason Primo won't work for me, and the resulting back up of Monsters Inc, played in standalone (Logix 3300) and PC.

Hope this helps, Its not an in depth tutorial, just a basic outline of what I achieved using DVD2DVDR and some other progs,

Any Experts, if you see anything I have missed or feel it needs to be added feel free to do so.

    cheers

  20. chatwalker thank you for your reply....i will donate too soon!!!

Now a last question for you and all others that know the answer....

In every DVD that i put in the drive, DVD2DVDR is having a pop up window that says

"DVD2DVDR has detected that the source may contain both frame pictures and field pictures, and frame pictures may be progressive or intrlaced frames. We recommend to set the encoder option "PROGRESSIVE FRAMES" to TRUE. This is good for 95% of dvd's"

Everything else i have it as default... should ickeck this box ?? "progrssive frames"?

    Thank you

  22. I had some CCE Errors but I was told those would happen as a bug, and it's seems not to of affected the output .MPV which was 3.85GB's. But the problem I have is that the audio is about 15 seconds or so behind the video. I will see the video, and then after the mouths move and say something, it takes 15 seconds or so to see that on the Video. Why did this happen? It happened to me once with DVD2SVCD, which also uses DVD2AVI, but why is it happening with DVD2DVDR? I read EVERY single post on this thread, and noone has complained about a synch error. Can someone please tell me why this may of happened and what I can do? Also, I too have the same question as strangezero.when DVD2DVDR selects the movie I get the message it contains BOTH Field and progressive frames or something like that..then it says to make Progressive frames "TRUE" in the encoder section. It says that is good for 95% of the DVD'S. What is "TRUE." Does that mean to just check that option for Progressive frames?

I Had the same problems with version 1.3.1 and the force film option on "The Sum of All Fears". I ran the program again without the force film checked and the error messages during cce weren't there and the audio was in sync. The movie plays fine in PowerDVD have yet to burn it though.
