Could someone check something for me please.
I am still getting "blank" subtitle images.
Could somene try and process a NTSC movie with vers. 1.47, select Scenarist authoring mode and selecting at least 1 subtitle stream. Hit the "GO" button and let it run for a few minutes then have a look inside the subtttle folder made by DVD2DVD-R. There should by now be many bitmap images (the subtitles) in that folder. Please open up a few of the bitmaps and have a look at them.
Please post what you are finding. For me they are all coming out blank! Just plain white.
I have tested more than 10 films so far and only 1 film did not produce blank white subtitles bitmaps.
Thanks

Maybe we should close this long thread & open a new one?
@AB, rob w reported good news on 1.4.7. Let us know if your success was equally as positive.
@sfxwe, sorry to hear about the hard times you and your family are going through. I know most don't give two shits, but I think that since we all spend so much time here, amongst each other, that when something like what you are going through occurs, you can at least get a good shot out.
Anyway, i'm sorry to hear about the issues you and your family are dealing with. From what it sounds like, a family member of yours is sick or passed on, and if that is the case, I give you my sincere condolences. I have lost more then my fair share of family members, mainly when I was a kid, so if that is the case, keep your head up, & stay strong! :fist: -
Making Subtitles work in 1.4.7 (and 1.4.7-Beta)
My experience is still limited but here is what I have found. Ripping (with DVD Decrypter) in file mode and then running DVD2DVD-r on these ripped files created an empty set of subtitles (nothing in them).
However, when I ripped in ISO mode and then mounted with Daemon as a virtual drive, the subtitles worked perfectly. Audio and Subtitles in Sync -
@SFXWE,
Sorry to hear you are having some bad times as well. Hope everything works out for you and your family. Thanks for taking time earlier to answer my posts. I have now swtiched from IFOEDIT to scenarist. Although, I do not really know how to run it at this time. Hopefully some of the guides I have been reviewing will help.

@ ROB W
Hey I found another NTSC dvd that actually doesnt produce blank subtitles!
I have tried like 20 NTSC dvd's now. So far only the first one i did, Calle54 (film about latin music - in spanish) and the latest one i just found Amores Perros (also in spanish) actually produce working subtitles!!
The other 18 NTSC dvd's always produce blank subtitles using Scenarist Mode. Actually think 1 of the 18 made a few scrambled images but thats as good as it got.
Makes me wonder that the only 2 were "foreign" films with a Spanish audio track. Maybe its a certain flag or a certain type of dvd's maybe european? Wierd!!
@ All
what happended to this thread? Doesn't anyone give a shit? Doesn't anyone have Scenarist? Doesn't anyone use Kazaa? -
Actually, I give a shit....I am in the same boat you are, the first movie I backed up - Boogie Nights turned out perfect, however every other movie I tried has been giving me blank images or messes up subs. I think it may have something to do with the origional DVD color pallette which I am testing now. Also I did Boogie Nights at the beta version, and then I upgraded to the final version and things started messing up so I downgraded back to the beta version, which didn't help things. So I am also currently testing on a install of the beta version on a clean machine. I'll post up my results if I find anything.

no we give a shit, i think its because DVD2DVDR, has got to a point that we are all happy with version 1.4.6. I havent upgraded and i dont think alot of other have. So we have nothing to report back on bugs or anything like that.
But i still check up on this thread from time to time, see what new and exciting.

Here is my initial assement of the situation...as I have only a couple DVDs that it pulls the subtitles correctly, I can not say for certain that this is the reason. However, I have noticed the one constant in all the movies that rip subtitles correctly is if you open the movie IFO in sub rip, where it shows the DVD pallette, #12 has a color (usually dark blue). Whereas the DVD's that do not rip the subs correctly, the color in #12 is usually black or dark grey, or light gray. If anyone can verify this with more DVD's that the subs are ripped correctly it would be much appreciated.

Wayne hit the nail on the head. No question that we give a shit, it's just that most of us have lives outside of making backups. I'm not even sure how I post as much as I do. This forum has "possessed" me. lol...but in addition to having a million things going on, i'm a little burned out by the countless tests and methods I had to do in order to finally get CCE along with the newest version of DVD2DVDR to work.
I want to explore into the world of Scenarist, and apparently it's simple as pie because DVD2DVDR creates the Scenarist script, but I have just been happy with "Maestro" and haven't had the urge to do so yet. I will pretty soon though. I'm sure the thread will pick up some though. Many have decided to just go with one of the four main "instant" type compression tools such as DVD2ONE or DVD95COPY or INSTANT COPY 7 or DVDSHRINK. Just with those tools alone, the majority of the forum is consumed. I have tried most of those and there are issues there regarding playback and quality. Nothing comes close to DVD2DVDR though..and I think most of us here know that. -
I care. Unfortunately, I have just started using Scenarist and do not know enough to help out. I am still using 1.4.5, because it is the first version I have gotten to work without problems. As for 1.4.7, now that I have Sceanrist working, I will try an upgrade later this week. However, if you guys are having problems, I am in serious trouble.
Thanks for all the help guys.Experience without knowledge is just time. -
if your not sure how to use scenarist here it is on my forum

Hello again... It has been a little bit, but I am barely keeping my head above water these days. Nothing like spring to create projects around the house that need to be done.
Anyways... I did play with 1.4.7 this weekend with some mixed results. First I should note that I did 8 movies this weekend and NONE required encoding. Weird huh... But 7 of those movies completed flawlessly with 1.4.7 (no subtitles) and Scenarist.. The one that did not had an import error in Scenarist. It kept reporting a different aspect ratio than the one specified.
I especially liked the adding of the subdirectory for input and output. The delete unnecessary files also worked fine.
Now the bad news. I tried three movies to add subtitles with. The first one What about Bob, completed using DVD2DVD-R, but failed in Scenarist. It crashed my system once and then on a retry it failed because it thought two of the subtitles overlapped.
The next test was Dazed and Confused and DVD2DVD-R reported a type mismatch error and would not rip the DVD if I had any subtitle checked.
The third test was I Spy and the DVD again ripped fine but scenarist crashed every time I tried to author the DVD.
Please note that these are preliminary tests. I did not have time to play with Scenarist to see if I could fix it. It looked as if the program was eating up all available memory while converting subtitles from bitmaps to a Scenarist supported mode.
So net result is that I have not gotten ANY subtitles to work... But the rest of the features seem to be working great. But then again... I haven't reencoded yet.
I will post again later this week. I am going to try some smaller tests.

@Cloudburst
Thanks, I will keep checking on the new version. Hope it comes out soon. I will stick version 1.4.5 until then.Experience without knowledge is just time. -
@All
Well I am rolling back to 1.4.6. I still have not gotten any DVD to work with Subtitles in Scenarist (it keeps crashing)... And 2 out of 3 movies that needed encoded failed. I am not sure what failed because I wasn't watching it. The log just shows the pulldown cant find the new M2V file.
On the good side... My company is replacing my laptop next week which will allow me to test new versions during the week instead of wasting time during the weekend.

DVD2DVD-R 1.4.8 is ONLINE!
Thanks to all who have testing faithfully. I wish I could spend more time testing myself, but you know how it can be.
I will try out this new version over the weekend hopefully.

@All
I am downloading it now and will test next week (approx Wed). I have too much catchup from 1.4.7 failures last weekend.
To anyone who gets the time to play. Please post your results.

ack...I keep on getting an out of memory error when I hit the browse button to select the source or destination directory...anybody else getting this?
-
ok...so it seems to be a problem with the new version that you can't select the directory with the browse buttons, however a slightly more complex workaroud is to assign the Source and Destination directory in the registry...the key to go to is:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VB and VBA Program Settings\DVD2DVD-R 1.4.8\General
Create 2 String Values Source and Destination and assign them the values (i.e Source = I:\VIDEO_TS and Destination = E: ).
If the source happens to be a Deamon Mount then all the better as all you will have to do is load a different ISO to change the movie selected by DVD2DVD-R. This should Hold Everyone over until Chatwalker releases a fix which should be real soon (i.e this might be a major bug that is easy to solve).
Also the subtitles "frame" that he uses could be a hair larger on the right and bottom side of the subtitles as it cuts off just a lil bit of the text, however this is a minor issue. -
I need to take a vacation to read through this whole thread lol... 32 pages? Madon'
-
ok...so the error when I press the browse button is only happening on one of my computers, so I will have to see what is different on the other computer.
However I am getting an error when ripping some movies: Subscript out of range, this is directly related to the subtitles so I will look at the difference between the movies that work and those that don't work. -
well its appears that the movies that are giving me the subscript error seem to have white subtitles that seeem to have a smaller font, whereas the one's that work have yellow subtitles with a larger font. Could also be the position of the subtitles.

version 1.4.8 has been released
- support for Cinema Craft Encoder Basic 2.67.01.10 and 2.67.01.11 added
- empty subtitles in Scenarist-Mode fixed
- async subtitles fixed
- 'Enter' in editable Textboxes added
- Dialogbox appears if a second instance is startet
- minor bugfixes -
Hi all
In the first 1.4.8 that i upload the file comctl32.ocx is missing. This causes the error when browsing the source- or destinationfolder. A few hours later i upload a fixed version (4.672.445 Bytes).
Regards

That's good to know it'll save a few from encountering the error.
First one is 4.23MB and the second one is 4.45MB
I've updated my mirror with the newer version of 1.4.8

A little late to the gun there dreadogg, audio visual synch has been verified since 1.4.6. The new topic of conversation is subtitles in scenarist. But please feel free to post back when he releases version 1.5.5 (or whatever) to say that subs export in Scenarist mode... :P
-
my experience with 1.4.8 is that subtitles are created (not empty like in 1.4.7) but now I get a compile error with Scenarist. Bummer! Also, in one instance I got an error right off the bat in DVD2DVD-r when I had a subtitle selected. When I deselected the subtitle the program completed successfully (of course, without the subtitles).
So, we still have bugs with subtitles but I think we're getting very close. -
