@robw
Thanks for the update. Can you give the two second blurb on why subtitles are not directly supported?
Is it because of the subtitle format that DVD2DVD-R saves the subtitles in an incompatible format? Or is it a subtitle sync issue?
Just wondering?

@ robw, thanks for the info regarding Scenarist, do you think you could just let us know the few steps you use if you want to author with Scenarist using DVD2DVDR? I have never used Scenarist, but it seems so compatible with DVD2DVDR from what you're saying, I would probably rather use Scenarist over Maestro, because I don't usually care about subtitles, and I agree with the fact that you have to always remember all of the "robot" steps such as aspect ratio, deletion of menu's, time for checking of assets, etc.
Apparently DVD2DVDR with author with Scenarist automatically which would make me at least test out Scenarist. I remember someone mentioning a while back, I believe it was NYPLayer..that you have to change the GOP sequence to "4" I believe..in order to get sync. Is this still true with version 1.4.5? If so, could you just post the steps in using DVD2DVDR to author with Scenarist?
I.E. The first thing you do is change the GOP sequence, the 2nd would be to choose "Sonic Scenarist" in the drop down box of DVD2DVDR, etc..etc. It seems pretty simple and there's probably only one or two steps after those it sounds like, so if you wouldn't mind just posting a quick concise instruction detail, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance -

Hi Monty......
1st, we all know about DVD2One, but as you can see, we don't care about DVD2one.......So thank you for the input, and have a nice daysFX WE -
for help using Scenarist take a look at the following guide. Go to the section on Scenarist.

robw, thanks for the link, but I actually already have "all" of the Scenarist guides printed. I personally don't think they are all that great. I mean, I know Scenarist can be complex, but I've had the guides read prior to even having the Scenarist app. I was just looking for the couple of steps which are used with "DVD2DVDR" and Scenarist. I think it would be helpful to not only myself, but anyone else wanting to use Scenarist to Author in conjunction with DVD2DVDR. If you wouldn't mind listing a "step by step" list for the functions you use with "DVD2DVDR" it would be appreciated. Thx in Advance

This is an old program. DVD2One 1.1 and DVDXCopy are newer and better.

@txpharoah
Although I accept your thoughts on DVD2ONE and DVDXCOPY being newer I would question your abruptness about better. They are significantly different architectures.
DVD2DVDR is essentially a wrapper program that uses external programs while DVD2ONE and DVDXCopy have all the features built in. Of all these features, few would argue that the most important component of these programs is the method used to reduce the file size of the video objects.
Once you break the argument down to that, what you are really arguing over is whether encoding or transcoding produces better results for the duration required. And that is a no win argument. Every individual is going to have very distinct opinions on this argument, but truly it is a matter of choice.
However if you truly wish to debate encoding vs transcoding virtues you may wish to take the argument to the encoding forum. And you will probably want to be prepared with the technical details of why you feel one is better than the other.
Thank you

There is a new version out.
Ver 1.4.6 [25.03.2003]
- now using EclCCE 1.3
- some modifications that prevent a memory-leak when using CCE 2.6x
- Now you can modify the bitrate for the credits
- AVS-Script changed to AddAudio() -
thought i would post my results on a PAL film.
Using DVD2DVDR 1.4.5_2
CCE 2.50.01.00
and MPEGDecoder.dll
ran all the way through smoothly with no problems and works a charm. Also disabled Norton antivirus 2003 script protection (only script protection, and didnt restart pc).
ps 1.4.6 is on my site.http://dvd.coldpie.com - where you can download versions of DVD2DVDR. -

I was tried 1.4.5 on two movies. The first movie I tried with 2 pass VBR and on the second pass I got a "check sum" error and CCE locked up and froze. I tried a different movie with 1 pass VBR and everything was perfect. I "think" that checksum issue was there due to the "script processing" in NAV 2003, so I'll run it again with that disabled and with the newest version, 1.4.6.

On the issue I reported yesterday, sh0dan pointed out a way to make CCE 2.50 support both AviSynth 2.08 and 2.51. You have to replace the resampleaudio line with AddAudio.
thats also from doom9,
eg
To use the script, use:
AddAudio()
at the end of the script instead of the earlier ResampleAudio(44100).
so thats just incase chatwalker dont know about that little problem, best to get it out in the open, before his next release encounters problems. -

Do you have any details on why subtitles are not directly supported in the Scenarist Script version of DVD2DVD-R?
Thanks,

Do you have any details on why subtitles are not directly supported in the Secenarist Script version of DVD2DVD-R?
It should be an easy matter to make subtitles with subrip (Scenarist format of course), load the DVD2DVD-R created script with Scenarist, and then load the subtitles. Now compile. Also, we should look to www.doom9.org in the download section. I suspect there may be a program that directly converts the ripped subtitle file from DVD2DVD-R to a Scenarist .sst file - that would be a faster alternative to subrip. Here is a major point ... most of these problems have probably already been solved by the PAL users of DVD2DVD-R. NTSC people are just getting to this point because the Scenarist script was not working until recently and then we had the sync issue. So, the first thing to do is go to Chatwalkers forums (including the one specifically on Scenarist) and start reading about subtitles. To get by the barrier of reading German use the following link which does a fair job of translating.
http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=de&u=http://www.dvd2dvd-r.de/&prev=/sea...8%26oe%3DUTF-8 -
Thanks Rob...
From what I can read into you message is that the main barrier is the supported format .sst is not directly extracted using DVD2DVD-R. From there we could just import them into Scenarist.
I will start searching to see if there is a way to convert this. I really don't want to have to rip the DVD to my hard disk to get the subs if I don't have to.
As a side question do you know how to tell if the subs are needed? For the most part I don't pull the subs because I really don't want them. But there are those DVD's like The Lord of the Rings and Black Hawk down that turn subs on for small portion (i.e. When the Elves are Speaking in Lord of the Rings). Is there a way to tell if this is applicable using any available tools?
Thanks

From reading Chatwalker's site it is possible to gain some insight into priorities and where the current project stands with respect to directly implementing subtitles with Scenarist using a DVD2DVD-r created script file.
One Nov 17 2002 Chatwalker wrote
The production of the Scripts with subtitles for Scenarist is finished and functions magnificently. The decoding of the Contol sequences (starting time, duration, Forced, Non Forced) also works. Only the decoding of the subtitles from bit-maps is not complete. However everything is only a question of time. -
@AB
I have never imported subtitles and the movies i have done that have them it has kept them in.
Most of the movies i have done are PAL format so will have no idea about the NTSC ones.
But i have noticed that the region 2 version of planet of the apes has a different disc structure compared to region 1 version regarding pgc's and such and not sure if this will be case with all region 2 and 1 discs. -
Thanks Mosh. Same for me too. The movies I have done so far had the subtitles. But I have not done the Attack of the Clones or any of the others that I heard need the subtitles.
I am really just trying to figure out HOW to know if I need them. Because I really don't care about them otherwise. I will post this to the broader forum.
Thanks again.

you only need the subs if they are forced subs. If you look in dvd decrypter they ususally say next to them FORCED in IFO mode.
for the people that dont know what that means, when watching a film and someone speaks in foreign or an alien speaks, subs will automaticly turn them selves on. So you can see what they are saying. Like in attack of the clones thats got a couple of moments of forced subs, same as hunt for the red october.http://dvd.coldpie.com - where you can download versions of DVD2DVDR. -

this is on my forum... post from Bach
the audio asynch issue is due to a bug of pulldown.exe. I have fixed it and it works fine at this moment. I whish it was possible to attach the fixed version hereIf it is then he says its a problem with pulldown.exe then we sorted the audio sync even further and can use mpegdecoder.dll.

Is this the bloke who made Pulldown.exe?? If it is then he says its a problem with pulldown.exe then we sorted the audio sync even further and can use mpegdecoder.dll.

I'm having more problems with 1.4.6 and CCE. I successfully backed up 8 Mile using a 1 pass VBR but when twice I have tried "The Ring" and both times as soon as the .vaf file completes and the .m2v file starts it's first pass in CCE, I get a "check sum" error...basically saying the data of the last pass is different from this pass..etc..etc. Anyone else having this problem? I thought it may be due to script processing in NAV 2003, but I disabled scripts and the problem still occurred.
-
@defense
I am having no such problem. I do not disable NSW or anything else. I have even been able to surf the internet while the process proceeds. No problems so far.
I work in Scenarist mode, NTSC, iCST is set to do 10 bit with SSE2, using vbr with 2 pass.
The error you are encountering sounds familar from an earlier version where a similar issue was occuring and later fixed by Chatwalker. Wish I could offer more because I know you are very familar with the options etc. Let us know if you solve your problem. -
@defense
Ok I now recall something. There is a lot of information about CCE not finishing owing to a CRC error (which is a checksum). There is a patch for version 2.5 that fixes this issue. If you do a search in this forum, I'm quite sure, I or someone else, has previously given a link. If that fails, use GOOGLE to search for "CCE checksum patch"; you will find many references to a patch file. You can also go to BK's site and get the help you need. Here is a link
