Version 1.3.4 does it again for NTSC About a Boy, perfect movieMaestro is compiling it while I type.
Total time for DVD2DVD-r, 3 hours 30 minutes for VBR 2 pass. The movie play time is 1 hour 41 minutes. I am sure the size will be between 4.2 - 4.3 GB as usual.
Version 1.3.4 may be an oldie and lack some of the bells and whistles of 1.4.3 but it is a GOODIE with only one problemIt may not do the PULLDOWN so you have to do it manually. This failure happens in about 1 out of 10 movies for me.
Thanks again Chatwalker. Some day I know you will find the audio sync problem.....

@ babaji, there is something wrong with your brain. Noone is jumping on you. I was simply telling you that your questions are the same ones repeated OVER AND OVER in this thread. If you've read this thread countless times as you have stated, then you should see someone for amnesia, or possibly another problem. My responses were to help you, that's why I "answered" your questions. Your questions weren't directed at me this time or last time, but last time you got "NO" response from "ANYONE" and that is why I responded this time.
Again, don't take things so personal, I could of just NOT responded and your SECOND post would of gone COMPLETELY unanswered. Everyone here was a newbie once, but when I started out people told me the same exact thing, and I COMPLETELY understood where they were coming from. If I asked a question that was answered in a thread COUNTLESS times, then I would make myself look like an idiot for not taking the time to read and learn on my own. Hopefully this info helps you out. If it doesn't, then you'll be responding to your own posts more times then not.
By the way,I believe then (if subs not wanted) you can skip the setep of making 2 pulldown files?
@ sfxwe, hopefully the removing of audio delay is the issue so it can be recitifed, becuase it's the only thing I can think of. I'm just curious, when you said you have made 4 or 5 movies to this point, I assume you are meaning with version 1.3.5..right? I hope so..because I can't get 1.4.2 or 1.4.3 to SYNC for an ENTIRE movie and I've tried about ten different methods/combinations. How has 1.4.3 been overall for you? AB said he has success with chapters or small tests, but NOT full movies, I'm waiting to hear his results or joepics with About a boy. Hopefully one of them had some type of success.
Thanks again Chatwalker. Some day I know you will find the audio sync problem.....

@defense
Sorry bro, I did mean V1.3.5. I just haven't made more than that cause I want to really make sure I was understanding everything in this thread....I have those same bleeding eyes as babaji.
As far as my experience with the 1.4.x versions I have made one BU where audio was in sync and one that wasn't. Both were full BUs not just sampled VOBs or chapters.
@babaji
I think if I have read this thread properly, the reason why we would all be making a second m2v is for this reason:
The DVD2DVDr versions that give us proper audio sync (V1.3.2 - 1.3.5) in NTSC are not setting the frames as progressive. Meaning; If the m2v is viewed in DVD2AVI you will see it flicker from interlaced to progressive VERY VERY quickly. When I run the m2v created by DVD2DVDr through pull down with the pulldown GUI is set the frames to progressive. When I run that file through DVD2AVI it shows a steady progressive m2v with the correct frame rate of 30.
I hope I am not giving you the wrong info, but this seems to work really REALLY well for me. defense i'm sure will correct me if I am wrong as, he seems to really knwo his s@#t.sFX WE -
Shame on you defense
At 19:50 local time I posted the following:
I stopped the processing after I saw no change in the rip time and what defense had said about his audio sync problems with version 1.4.3. I am now using 1.3.4 to get this movie copied. -
@sfxwe
LOL i am taking it easy cant u see me meditating
Although, I can also see defense's frustration as some topics in this thread are asked over and over and over
I think while we are waiting around for the next disapointment we should choose an official working version that works most best for a "complete backup" ie picture, sound, substitles, chapter, and sync!! Just to give the noobs a "tangable starting point". I myself know 1.32 does it all very well.
This is a wonderful program and we should show the world how well it can work .Why should a noob have to suffer throgh so many post? Let's apply for a sticky with baldrick!! and at the end of the sticky we could put in a link to this wonderfull furball of a thread we have all come to love! -
Ooooo, nice posture.....hehe
BELIEVE me when I say this:
There is a s@$t load of duplicate questions throughout this thread......
Hey i'm a noob....., but I ain't scared hehe.......well maybe a little when it gets dark outside, LMFAO, JK....
@all, ya know maybe we should start a new thread with a basic understanding and guide for one of these versions 1.3.2 - 1.3.5 for the NTSC guys, then go right into the next version that comes out?sFX WE -
@ joepic..lol..you got me on that one! I had the day off and have been testing this new version ALL DAY! I have been possessed in trying to get this thing to sync up but just can't! Very frustrating to say the least. Anyway, I am tired and I guess it's time to get some rest so "I" can actually read all posts thoroughly. Hopefully we'll hear from "AB" in the near future, and I wonder what happened to "robw."
@sfxwe, thanks for the compliment, but I wouldn't say that I really know my shit...lol...many people on this forum know much more then I do. One thing about me though is that I NEVER have to be told the same thing twice, and when I do something "once" I always remember it, no matter how difficult it was to accomplish the first time. The problem with these sync issues is that NOTHING works that I've tried, so there is NOTHING to remember. lol...anyway, It lookst like it's gonna be DVD2DVDR "old school city" for many of us until chatwalker knocks this sync issue out.

Flame suit on (slight OT)
Title: Spreading the butter a little thin!
I want to back up my sopranos the first disk has 208 minutes (4 episodes). I think that works out to about 2450 AVG bitrate. i have tried it with 4 pass vbr. Looks ok but there are definately some funky artifacts in some scenes. I know the real answers to my question is "if it looks ok to you then its ok" but i would like to know what some of you think is an acceptable minimun in most cases. Does anyhave a "golden rule" ie never more than X minutes or never lower than bitrate Y ?
I ask this here and not in the "CCE" or other forum cause i have been reading this thread and feel like i know some of you and have come to respect many of your opinions. And i want to know what you guys think.
PS I second defensed curiosity for ROBW where is he, i think i owe him a lot as it was from his posts that i learned a lot. -
hey guys......you might want to try AC3 Delay Correcter....its a small program. I think it would definitley help all of you're sync problems. I will upload it to my site immediatley. Let me know if this fixes all your problems. To get to the download areas click on the disc icon in the left frame. Make sure your resolution is set to at least 1024 x 768 or you may not see it.
http://www.tcnj.edu/~sarnell2/ART34508/dvd2dvdr/main.html
hope i could help!True Story -
ac3 delay corrector isn't gonna work either. I've already tried that, although not with the newest version, but DVD2DVDR when extracting the audio shows it as a 0ms delay, meaning it has "apparently" taken the delay out of the .ac3 stream, unforutnately the newer versions of DVD2DVDR still have the delay.
Scaronelly, which version of DVD2DVDR are you currently using with NO problems? Also, I noticed you show on your site when encoding with CCE, you don't select "zig zag" scan order. The proper scan order for most NTSC films is ZIG ZAG, so why you are showing people to leave that option "unchecked" and encode with an "alternate" scan order is beyond me. I'm sure you are trying to help, but all of these things have been discussed prior and do NOT work.
If you could let us all know which version of DVD2DVDR you have made over 50 movies with, and had no problems, that would probably be more of a help. -
dvd2dvd-r v1.3.5 - you can download it right from the site.....you can also view the list of movies i have done....which is exactly 50...last one i did was the ring.....every once in a while there is a small sync problem like the matrix, but dvdmaestro easily corrected that in the timeline - directions are in my site......i encountered one "big" sync problem....with sixth sense, but i manually corrected that by placing the audio slightly away from the edge until it matched perfectly in maestro.....i dont understand what all you guys are whining about......just download the programs from my site.....follow step by step and you will not encounter any errors.....its not hard to do...it's so frustrating to see so many people who still have not come up with a soundproof way of doing it....
if you dont know how to install dvd2dvdr i have instructions posted by clicking on the software link on the left.....once everything is installed correctly click on my "analyze" link and follow internally from there

..i dont understand what all you guys are whining about......
The problems we are experiencing have been stated over AND OVER and are with versions AFTER 1.3.5. Since you don't have ANY issues and are so brilliant, DOWNLOAD THE LATEST VERSION and come back on here and report your successful results. Learn to read. If people would read the posts before they reply to them, they would realize more often then not, their reply is a waste of their time as well as others.
P.S. I really hope that isn't a picture of you on that site you linked..because if it is...you are one OOOGGLLLIEE MOOO FOO! -
@scaronelly
i appreciate the effort you are making with you site. Its nice that you have mirrored v1.35 as i have asked and no one has replied that they know where it can be downloaded anymore. Could you also mirror v. 1.32 +134 if you have them.
Just a piece of constructive advice, dont use shockwave or whatever that plugin is. I dont want to have to download anythng nor install anything just to see a webpage. I think right there you have cut your audience down by 60%.

His guide is quite... unique...
It's not for the n00b user, but for someone with a lot of experience with the programs mentioned on his site... I actually gave the link to that guide to my friend who is a n00b at DVD Authoring/Back-Up... He liked the pretty colors... that's about it...
On the DVD2DVDR note... I wish Chat would put Maestro as Authoring Method... Ohh.. that would make my day...

Hi guys
First off, let me appologize for not being around here much lately. In reality, I have not been posting though I have been reading. Also I have changed my user name from "robw" to "rob w". Reason for my absense has been a personal problem in my life and, to be truthful, lack of interest in this hobby lately. Nevertheless, I have been keeping up at my own pace.
I for one have been more than a little frustrated with DVD2DVD-R. The older version 1.3.4 has been nice to me but it sometimes does not complete - which causes me frustration. I have been very interested in 1.4.x up to 1.4.3 because of the better speed and increased control of the encoder. But, like others I have had sync problems. The first time I used 1.4.2 it completed without a sync issue but after that I found the problem. From reading this thread, I see that Chatwalker does not feel there is a sync problem. Well I can assure him that there definitely is a sync problem. I have confirmed it several times and with the same DVD, DVD2SVCD works perfectly. From my testing, 1.4.2 and 1.4.3 both have the same issue.
So what am I doing now. I have switched to DVD2SVCD. That program can work beautifully. It fills a DVD without any calculations (like DVD2DVD-R does) and I have slightly modified it so it does not call bbMPEG and also so that it runs pulldown. I do the pulldown with progressive flag and with the drop_frame flag. That means after DVD2SVCD has completed, I can simply author in DVDMaestro and have perfect results. Also, the machine is available during the entire DVD2SVCD processing (for example if I want to surf the web) and it shuts down reliably if I have set that option. One last thing, DVD2SVCD allows you to rip your DVD to any directory and process the film from there - that is, no need to rip it to a VIDEO_TS root directory.
I am only mentioning some of this in case people have an interest in this. I will be glad to help any of you through the process.
Final note. I do love DVD2DVD-R, but the process is getting left behind because all the newer versions don't work for NTSC film and DVD2SVCD is a great alternative.
Let me know what you think. Perhaps future discussion should move over to another thread. I'll be happy to do that if you wish.
rob w -
Chatwalker seems to acknowledge that there is indeed a sync problem with his releases of DVD2DVD-R since 1.3.6
from his board he states
I'am working hard on the new release. After that, i will give some things a try for NTSC.Wish this could receive higher priority
http://www.dvd2dvd-r.de/modules.php?op=modload&name=eBoard&file=viewthread&tid=1782
Seems like posting the issues on his English Language thread gets more attention than posting the issue here. Just a thought. -
@Rob W
Good to hear from ya.
Great to hear from you. funny you should mention D2S 'cause thats what i have been playing with for the past 4 days. It seems to work pretty well. I have a bunch of questions about it and i would love to know more details about the modifications you have done especially turning off the bbmpeg!!
I find it most useful ripping episodes from a series disc like the sopranos. just set it up to do the 4 episodes on the disk and it makes me the 8 files (4 sound and 4 video).
I really think we could use some discusuin on using it for outputing to dvds like we are doing. There is plenty of discusiion but most of it pertains to SVCD. There is also a guide here on this site but it is pretty basic.
...but i think it should be on another thread if u like, so i'll hold off with the questions until you or someone else opens one up.
Thanks -
@ defense and @scaronelly
Guys please exchange email addresses and take this "gentleman's disagreement" outside of this thread please, cause i really dont think i could take much more of it.
-
@ defense and @scaronelly
I second the request. I certainly don't come here to read the inflammatory comments of people. It does take away most of the fun in reading this thread. It is hard to ignore. Stop it immediately!!! -
Defense started all of this.....also, if you peruse the forums, you'll see how all of his posts have a "flavor" to them. This should be reported.

i want to apologize to everyone about letting this get out of hand

Defense started all of this.....also, if you peruse the forums, you'll see how all of his posts have a "flavor" to them. This should be reported.
Too many posts are "ignorance" like yours Teflon, and those are the ones that should be reported because they are overly redundant and slow down the forum server. Sarnonelli just wanted to link that joke of a site, and wasn't reading the posts that myself and other members were listing. I made it clear to ask SEVERAL times what version of DVD2DVDR they were using because they made it seem as though they were using the LATEST VERSION. At least everyone discussing this topic was referring to the LATEST version on the last two pages. Again, all they did was link their site. This site isn't for advertising, and if you are gonna do it, then at least have a real site to link, not some Spudz MacKenzie created joke.
With that being said, it's obvious why I would be pissed. It takes HOURS AND HOURS to encode, and when you are testing methods over and over and have someone come in and say ..OH...MY METHOD WORKS ALL THE TIME, then link to that kindergarden coloring book of a site, is just a waste of everyone's time. It was clear that the poster just wanted to link their site, and that was disappointing.
Now @ rob w, first, welcome back. Next, I agree with your comments on this not being the place for B.S. so I will edit my last post, however, I will say that I am surprised by your "angel" type of commentary, because I remember reading a post by a newbie not too long ago, where you just FLEW off the handle with all types of profanity.
Your post was edited by a moderator, but with the "ignorance" of the question, I felt where you were coming from. To see you jump off the handle when this poster was wasting people's time, after you have done the same before, well, that was a little surprising. At any rate, I will edit my post.
With all that ridiculousness gone, I do in all honesty want to say rob w, I respect your posts, and hopefully over time you will continue to post in this forum. I am not sure what negative things have transpired over the last few weeks, but if you lost a loved one, my sincere condolonces go out to you. If you lost your job, don't sweat it, you'll find another one which is better. If you got divorced, then CONGRATULATIONS!
In all seriousness, good to hear from you, and hopefully Chatwalker will, infact, address those issues you mentioned in the upcoming releases of DVD2DVDR. I still have not seen AB's results, but I would think they would of come back if they were successful with v.1.4.3. -
@scaronelly
i want to apologize to everyone about letting this get out of hand
It takes a man to admint when that he was wrong
apology accepted. -
@defense
maybe robw flew off the handle once thats but i dont think it was in epic proportions like that post you made. That was the most immature pile of rubish i have ever scene posted in a forum. where did you get that from? Your own sick mind?
you have no defense
i actually think its a dis-service to let people say crap like that and then blank it it out later. You should'nt be able to run off at the mouth like that and then cover it up. -
babaji, just like I told you last night, you're in the same category with Teflon. Your posts are ignorant and it's obvious you are as well. You want somebody to be your personal information supplier on this forum and it isn't gonna happen. Go back to school, and maybe they won't fail you this time. As far as deleting my post, I agreed that this forum isn't for that, otherwise, I have no problem saying what I said because it is truth. Forums like this aren't for people like babji, it isn't www.tardneedshelp.com
It's a forum where people help each other, not sit there and ask repetitive questions which have been asked countless times over. You are looking for an easy way to make copies of DVD's and you are continuously attempting to do it without using your own noodle. It's obvious that it is definitely a "noodle" but at least make a little attempt to research some info on your own. It's pathetic when "leeches" come on here and do the things you do and waste peoples time. That's why I finally decided to be the person who responded to your idiot, repetitive post, because noone else would.
