I have never looked at the INFO.TXT file in detail before but Sfxwe got me thinkingOriginally Posted by sfxweWhen I did K-19 with version 1.4.0 it had checked ALL ENCODER OPTIONS (Progressive, Linear, Zigzag & Upper). I did not touch these and the movie had NO audio problems. With 1.4.2 and the movie About a Boy only UPPER was automatically checked for me. I then used BitRate Viewer and found that I needed to also check PROGRESSIVE & I always check LINEAR (which may or may not count).
After the movie was complete (I ran it again tonight when I was out) I printed out the INFO.TXT file. Only UPPER was TRUE. The other three options were FALSE. Is this the problem![]()

@joepic
You went exactly where I was thinking. I just noticed that my info text is matching the options DVD2DVD-R preselected... not the ones I selected.
But I am not sure if this is a problem. Because the DVD that I had done did not automatically select Progressive so I manually set it. And I am almost 100% certain that when Pulldown ran it set the progressive flags. I will verify this on my next DVD.
So I think the open question now is... Are the flags being used correctly and just incorrectly reported in INFO.TXT. The only way to really verify this is to watch the outputs and use BitRateViewer afterwards.
Any other thoughts?

To answer the question though, no, those options NOT being checked have no effect on the sync issues. The reason I say that is because you can just throw out LINEAR Quantizer Scale, it seems to not make a difference by using it, and may actually affect certain movies if you DO CHECK IT. DOOM9 has contradictions to the method of getting the most out of CCE. Upper Field first seems to always get selected, so that's ok. The two problems are with the scan type and the frame type.
However, I always get an output of zig zag scanning order, and even if it were alternate when it shouldn't be, that wouldn't or shouldn't affect sync. Last but not least, by progressive frames not getting set, that shouldn't affect sync either because as AB said, you can just run the films through pulldown and that problem will be resolved. And last but not least, as I mentioned earlier, version 1.4.2 set upper field first, progressive frames, and zig zag scanning order properly for T2, which has been a first. I still had sync issues though. The audio was ahead of the video by a split second or so.
Basically, there is some type of timing issue. I have not experimented with getting sync in Maestro. I would not mind doing testing on a version of DVD2DVDR before release if Chat Walker goes for it. I think he asked this board if someone would be willing to test early on, and if i'm not mistaking robw tested some earlier versions. It can't hurt to ask though. Any other information anyone would like to offer? I had to resort to stripping the PGC I wanted for T2 with IFOEdit, then using DVD2SVCD's advanced options along with CCE and Maestro to backup T2. It came out great by the way.
Anyway, I prefer DVD2DVDR for several reasons, but hopefully we can get some of these bugs worked out. The truth is that version 1.3.2 still works better then 1.4.2 as long as I run pulldown with "progressive" frames. -

Sorry this thead is just HUGE. Maybe you should just start a new thread when new versions come out to make it more manageable? Just a thought. -

Yeah but imagine being a newbie and coming in and going "ah there is the program I was trying to learn about, DEAR GOD! it must suck! look at that thread!"
A few pages ago I saw where someone asked how to install the program. That was covered on the first three pages on this thread. I have also seen questions regarding how to get CCE and a million others just like it. Reading this thread or printing it and reading it in its entirety will give a newbie ALL the info they need and then some. I think that's why this site doesn't allow a newbie to post for 3 days, because they can answer the majority of their initial questions BEFORE signing up.
On another note: Anyone else have any input on 1.4.2 I am going to test 1.4.3 but it doesn't appear as though any of those bug fixes will work for or the sync issues we have. -
I don't like the different thread for each version idea. Multiple problems cross over from version to version. The main problem seems to be the audio sync issue w/ NTSC. I say we just start another thready just dealing w/ the audio sync issue. Then the couple of us that are working on trying to fix the problem can post our data and discuss new approches to fixing it. I don't want all my hard work to be lost b/c it got cluttered in some huge thread.

Hi all
Some informations for you all:
1. The details shown in Info.txt does'nt represent your settings for the encoding process. The Info.txt shows the flags of the source
2. The speed-problem is found. In 1.4.4 the speed is like 1.3.5
3. If CCE freeze, it is a Avisynth 2.07-Problem with 'ResampleAudio(44100)'. Edit the AVS-Script up to Version 1.4.3. Version 1.4.4 will use Avisynth 2.08
4. I'am working on the IfoEdit-Control.
5. I've tested LOTR 2 - German Press Release (NTSC) with no sync-probs
Regards
Chatwalker -
Thanks for the info Chatwalker, and thanks for such a cool program and your hard work.

The rip speeds etc we can work around, but the sync issues are the most difficult because we can't work around
those.Anyway, as I mentioned, the sync issues are the same in 1.4.3 as they are in any version since 1.3.5. You guys can test for yourself, but I've already tried everything once again, and the sync issues are still there.
Note: Maybe I am wrong but I noticed that every version of DVD2DVDR after 1.3.5 doesn't say it is "removing delay from audio" like all the other versions do. The newer versions all say "auido check" and then go straight to DVD2AVI. I wonder if that function that was in the earlier versions which said removing the delay from the audio and isn't in the newer versions is part of the problem with getting sync. What do you guys think? -
@defense
What parameters are you using? Chatwalker mentioned that he had an NTSC copy working. Maybe its a config issue?
I just tried a couple of tests and 1.4.3 worked well on all three tests. Now I am doing a full copy. We all know how long that takes.
I will update tonight when the results are complete.
@Chatwalker...
Do you need help testing the NTSC audio sync problem? When you are able to solve that one everything else will just be a bonus.
Thanks
AB -
A simple comparison, the movie NTSC About a Boy.
Time to RIP
1.4.2 - 41 minutes
1.4.3 - 40 minutes
1.3.4 - 21 minutes
I am not sure where Chatwalker is getting his time from but I see no change in the ripping time. The DVD ROM reader is a Pioneer DVD-117.
I stopped the processing after I saw no change in the rip time and what defense had said about his audio sync problems with version 1.4.3. I am now using 1.3.4 to get this movie copied.
Remember I was able to get K-19 copied with version 1.4.0 so some movies do work. Maybe Chatwalker needs to get another NTSC movie for testing the audio sync problem -
I also tried V1.4.3 and did have an audio sync problem, it was more than just a couple of seconds off
. I tried it on 2 movies, sniff sniff........
As AB stated, we will (or at least I would be willing to help beta test for ya if needed, and I am sure others would too)
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK CHATWALKER.......WE HAVE FAITH IN YAsFX WE -
I'm just so sick of DVD2DVD-R and the sync problem. 135 work's but it take's three hour's to rip on my AO4 with smart ripper about 30 minutes or so. 135 They only thing I really want added work from the hard drive so i can rip the movie my self and subtitle's fixed that's it. And I would donate money to DVD2DVD-R but I really do not use this program but I real wish the bugg's would be fix I would use it alot more. For now DVD2ONE im sticking with

i quick glanced all your problems. ive used dvd2dvd-r for over 50 movies so far and i have had no problem. i have a complete tutorial you can look at if you want. maybe it will solve some problems:

hope i helped!True Story -

@ joepic
Chatwalker said he located the problems of the ripping speeds and they will be fixed in version 1.4.4, NOT 1.4.3. 1.4.3 still has much lower rip speeds, but apparently that will be resolved with the next release.
@ all, I am not sure what type of tests you guys did with version 1.4.3, but as you can see...sfxwe, and myself have done various "full" tests and the results are unfortunately the same. I don't think chatwalker changed any parameters with his tests, but hopefully he will let us know if he did. But as I mentioned before, the parameters from 1.3.2-1.3.5 were all set as defaults, and none of us experienced these sync issues. Hopefully we can get this problem fixed soon..that would be nice. -
scaronelly, what version of DVD2DVDR have you been using? Have you used version 1.4.2 and 1.4.3 with FULL success? Also, are making NTSC movies? If so, please let us know.
-
since nobody took the time to answer my last post a couple of pages back(maybe it was too long and unstructured?) ill "bump" it up (an abriged version) and single out a few people who i think have the answers i need.
@sfxwe
I think I might stay with V1.3.5 as that version seems to work really well for me, it completes / runs all the way through, but I have to manually set the progresive flags with pulldown after DVD2DVDr completes.
@joepic
i saw somehwhere that u were using 1.34 to copy about a boy. Please tell me if 1.34 is any better than the 1.32 i am using and why u are you not using 1.35?
@anyone is anybody have these "oldie but goddies" 1.34 or 1.35 for download somewhere?
Merci -
@babaji, the answers to all of your questions are on the last 9 or so pages of this thread. Read the thread and you'll know the differences. Basically though, there isn't anything other then pulldown and a few minor bugs which don't affect 1.3.2 anyway which were introduced in 1.3.5. You should stick with 1.3.2 if it works, WHICH I KNOW IT DOES, because I use that when I want to use DVD2DVDR to backup a movie.
@scaronelly, I checked out the guide on your site and it doesn't specify anything different from what all of us have tried already. You must be using a version of 1.3.5 or earlier, and that is why you aren't having sync issues. If you read the threads, you'll see that it's only the versions SINCE 1.3.5 which cause these sync issues. Anyway, ArrogantBastard did mention Maestro and the sync function it had for matching audio on the time line, and I hadn't tried it. I saw you also mention it in your guide, so I figured I would try it.
My results for using MAESTRO SYNC for the .AC3 track on version 1.4.3 were FAILURE! The sync fucntion DOES make the VIDEO AND AUDIO MATCH WITH RESPECT TO "TIMES." However, when I compiled, my audio was EXACTLY 2 seconds ahead of the video, just as it was before.
In summary, Scaronelli, if you are using a version ABOVE 1.3.5, let us know what version it is, and WHICH NTSC films you have been successful backing up.
@ everyone else, it doesn't appear the Maestro sync issues works either, so it appears we are just going to have to wait unless someone else can test something new.
@joepic/AB, please report your results from About A Boy and AB, please report your "FULL" TEST results. Thanks -
@defense
the answers to all of your questions are on the last 9 or so pages of this thread. Read the thread and you'll know the differences.
I have read this entire thread about three times and my eyes are bleeding, so i really cant go back and read the last 9 pages again! Plus it's all over the place and really needs a tidying up. Maybe someone could make a living FAQ / Q&A thread that could be posted as a sticky.
I would like to see some sort of a version flowchart howto ie if u want subtitle go this way, if you do not need subs then you can go this way. I believe then (if subs not wanted) you can skip the setep of making 2 pulldown files? And just make 1 , so what vers. would be best for that case. I would be willing to write the howto for 1.32 authored in maestro with correct chapter points and subtitles including howto do forced subs.
Its just that i dont think anyone should have to read 900 posts just to find out that 1.43 doesnt work. It would be nice to bring newbies up to speed and making usefull backups that just plain work. Then they can start hoping and praying for a working version just like the rest of us.
i know 1.32 works fine, but if its not to difficult i would like to know why others are using 1.35 if "bugs" were introduced as you say. And 1.34 must do something better or have fixed something? I'd like to know what.
I never got my hands on version 1.34 or 1.35 so i don't really know the ins and outs of them. so if someone could just give me the skinny on them i would be most thankful! -
babaji, you are asking questions that have been answered over and over again. I answered your questions anyway, now you want to know about subtitles. You need to read this thread, or the guides at doom9. They will tell you what you need to do if you want subtitles. Once that question is answered, you'll have another one. Don't take this the wrong way, but let's suppose all of your questions become answered, then the next person will have the same questions again in the next day or so. It doesn't end. Your idea of a sticky isn't a bad idea, I believe Baldrick handles the sticky's but if he says a sticky on this proggy would be a good idea, then i'm sure someone wouldn't mind answering the most FAQ's. If noone will, then I will.

@defense
Dont be such a hot head and ready to jump all over someone for asking a reasonable question.
now you want to know about subtitles. You need to read this thread
It would take less energy to answer my simple question than to flame me for asking it, and all the "future" questions i may ask. Or better yet just ignore my post altogether, it wasnt addressed to you anyways.(cause i have seen u jump all over others in the thread and in others ) -
@babaji
You asked why I use 1.35, well, because I have gotten it to work for me numerous times. From what I have read, and believe me, I have read this complete thread numerous times and I do mean numerous, V1.3.2 through V1.3.5 all seem to work about the same. Audio seems to be sync'd in these versions for NTSC. Although I must say you will still need to create one more m2v file with pulldown and set certian flags.
When I first came across this thread DVD2DVDr was at version 1.3.4 and 1.3.5 was going to be released soon, we all thought maybe the new version was going to fix a certain authoring problem, so I upgraded. As it turns out DVD2DVDr was not to blame and the problem lay with IFOEdit
. As V1.3.5 worked for me other than IFOEdit authoring mode I decided to stay with it. That is why I use V1.3.5.
Since V1.3.5 there has been a major problem with audio sync and NTSC, that is why I have not upgraded to any newer version.
defense wrote.....
@ everyone else, it doesn't appear the Maestro sync issues works either, so it appears we are just going to have to wait unless someone else can test something new.
I have also tried the sync tip in maestro and I agree it doesnt fix the problem either. So I am with defense.

Does anyone know when V1.4.4 will be out Chatwalker didn't say did he? Or did I miss something?
@defense again, lol
Just so you know I have finally worked through all my issues and have now successfully BU'd 4 or 5 DVDs with subs and audio in sync.....what help me was that GUI pulldown where I could set the frames to progressive. Just wanted to say thanks for your help bro.......sFX WE -
LOL, easy guys.....
@babaji
You both have valid points. Yes the thread is now VERY, VERY long and therefore something may be over looked or missed.
Although, I can also see defense's frustration as some topics in this thread are asked over and over and over, which makes this thread even longer and therefore eaiser to miss something or overlook it. Not to mention that ya get tired of answering the same questions when possibly other productive dialogue could possibly take place thus helping out Chatwalker to produce a better program.
I wonder if he is having a hard time keeping up with this thread?!?!?!?!?!

@sfxwe
Thanks for the reply
V1.3.5 all seem to work about the same. Audio seems to be sync'd in these versions for NTSC. Although I must say you will still need to create one more m2v file with pulldown and set certian flags.
is it doing
pulldown -prog -drop
or
pulldown -prog
if it does do that, it would at least save me a half a step! Is anyone still mirroring this version? Claire Howards links dont seem to work for me. any ideas?
