@sfxwe, I'm not sure what options you are using with that "GUI" but you shouldn't have to choose any to run a normal 2:3 pulldown. Be careful with your selections, as they may come back to haunt you. As robw mentioned, you should try his method and see how it works. He has said it works flawlessly each and every time. Also, as robw said, you don't need the drop frame if you aren't doing subs, but with his method, you ONLY have to run the drop frame option in the GUI and use that one .m2v file for everything, chapters, subs, etc. The trick apparently is to change that colon to a semi-colon as robw mentioned. That should be the trick to getting subs in sync each and every time. Test it out and let us know how it worked.

Need help! Where is this drop frame option in the PulldownGUI? I clicked "Show Advanced Controls", and I still can't find it.
-
@defense
I am not trying to run pull down with that gui. What I am doing is creating a new file that has the drop flag removed from it. I then place the file into Maestro then I import the subs, then I *REMOVE* it, and replace it with the m2v file created by CCE.
I tried robw method last night. I ran DVD2DVDr with all options checked except Quantizer. So drop flag *was* selected. But, when I tried to import the subs, Maestro said, there were subs overlaping, although I could not finda any, and the subs were like 3 seconds behind the audio.
For shits and grins I used that gui and *removed* the RFF tags, which I think were the drop frame flags (but was not adding the pull down as the file already had the pull down and drop flags when it was created by DVD2DVDr) This created a NEW file which like I said above I used as a templete, which after importing the subs I then remove it and placed the DVD2DVDr / CCE m2v back in. Whew, does that make sense?
I was trying to recreate a new m2v file with pulldown but no drop flag so I didn't have to re-run DVD2DVDr.
@robw
I tried like you said, and ran DVD2DVDr with drop flag, but I can't get it to work. I guess I will try again to night with drop flag not checked off. Man I am getting frustrated.....to bad IFOEdit doesn't work properly.
Here is my process maybe you guys can see what I am doing wrong?
1. Run DVD2DVDr (I have tried v1.3.5 and 1.3.8)
2. Check off *ALL* boxes except for Quantizer
3. Set DVD2DVDr *NOT* to author
4. Wait 4 - 8 hours.
5. Start Up Maestro
6. Set Project Properties - Disc Image Name - NTSC - Force To Letter Box
7. Set Movie Properties - Right Click Change From 4:3 TO 16:9 If Needed
8. Import Assets
9. Set Chapter Properties To *INDEX* Based & Next GOP
10. Run Chapter Extrator (with settings from DHLuke Guide except below)
a. Run it with ;
b. Don't use cc leave ff in format
c. Don't change FPS Rate - I just leave it at what it picks
11. Run SubRip (I Tried V 1.14 & 1.15)
a. Run it exactly as DHLuke Guide Section For SubRip
12. Place newly created m2v file from DVD2DVDr onto time line
a. Maestro shows it as a 29.97 *drop* in lower left corner next to 16:9
13. Place Audio from DVD2DVDr onto time line
14. Import Chapters.chp
15. Check For Audio Sync In Real View - all Ok So Far
16. Import Subs - Now it goes to shit
Subs Usually Say Overlap Error And Are 1 - 3 Seconds Behind Audio
sFX WE - now spends hours trying to figure out what he did wrong. Over two days now, and still haven't got it. Tonight I guess I will try to leave Drop Flag *UNCHECKED* in DVD2DVDr , and try it DHLukes way, as I dunno what else to do
. I am really really frustrated. I have never run into a problem I have not been able to find an answer for or fix.....I am at the point of actually giving up
.
See if you guys can see what I am doing wrong please?
Also in SubRip I leave the Drop Frame Check Box *CHECK* and when I save the final file at the end I leave it at 30 *ALTHOUGH* I have saved it in every frame rate available 23.970 24 25 29.970 &30 and none of them will import right. I even ran it with the drop frame flag *UNCHECK* and then saved it in all the formats and still same problem.
sFX WE -
@sfxwe, yes, what you are saying makes sense, however, you didn't mention what is probably the MOST important part. With robw's method, the key to getting your chapters is to use the "semicolon" NOT the "colon." This one little thing apparently will allow your subs to be in sync with everything else. The key to using that method is you must change it BEFORE you open IFOEdit. Try this method with ONLY the drop frame option in the GUI or within DVD2DVDR. In version 1.3.2 which I am still using, I have to use the GUI or Command prompt, because the older versions of DVD2DVDR don't incorporate drop frame. Just use the drop frame option checked within DVD2DVDR or afterwards within the pulldown.exe GUI. But once again, make sure your chapters are extracted with the semicolon command, and not the colon. Check this out and let us know how it works.
P.S. I'm just curious which movie you got the asset overlapping error. I got this once too, with Attack of the Clones. I don't think that has ANYTHING to do with sync. I just clicked on the box and saw some of my subtitles were highlighted in red, and they appeared to be duplicates, because they had the same exact info. Only 3 subs out of the 1,300 or so had this problem, so I just deleted them. I was out of sync by about one full second, and I just lived with it for that movie. When the Aliens are speaking the subs aren't hard coated, so that is all I wanted and the subs worked perfectly for that because you didn't know what the aliens were saying anyway, so it didn't even appear to be out of sync.Anyway, what did you do to even get Maestro to allow the subs? Did you delete the ones that appeared to be dups? Also, what movie did this asset overlapping error occur on?

Is it me or is it a bug?
On two seperate backups my audio is getting out of sync with the video. This has occurred on Chasing Amy and The Astronaughts Wife. Here are my settings.
DVD2DVD-R version 1.3.8
CCE version 2.5.00.01
DVD2DVD-R options
Upper Fields First = Yes
Progressive Frames = Yes
Linear Quantizer Scale = No
Zig Zag Scanning Order = Yes
Force Film = Yes
2:3 Pulldown = Yes
Drop Frame = No
Anti Noise Filter = No
Image Quality Priority = 15
For both backups I am only selecting the main movie and the one audio. No subtitles are being used. DVD2DVD-R completes without problems. I watched the process from start to finish and didn't notice anything.
I am authoring with DVDMaestro version 2.9. I pull the video and audio onto the movie, import the chapters and compile. The audio is then out of sync.
On movies that do not require a reencode I have use the same method and same software with no problems. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks,
AB -
Sorry... On my last post I failed to clarify that these are NTSC sources.
Thanks again
AB -
Arrogant, check your .M2V file BEFORE authoring by playing it in POWER DVD. You probably won't be able to open power dvd and search the hard drive for that file, because it will only look for .IFO files. Just go to the reencoded .M2V file and right click, and then select "open with", then select power dvd or whatever DVD play software you have. See if the audio is out of sync. If it is, then it has nothing to do with Maestro. I really doubt it is Maestro, and I'm pretty sure it is going to be out of sync prior to authoring. If that is the case, let us know and we can help you further.

@Defense
I checked the M2V file by associating it with PowerDVD and it plays, but no audio come across. Do I have to link the M2V to the audio somehow? I agree with you. I doubt this is Maestro. I think it has to do with the encoding of the new M2V. (see below).
@All
I did more research into my audio sync problem on the two dvd's I am having problems with. These are the only two I have tried a reencode on with this version and both failed. I noticed that the encode times in the ECL are longer than the time shown in DVD2DVD-R by about 6 seconds.
Chasing Amy Original Time 1:53:31:21 Encoded Time 1:53:37:23
Astronaughts Wife Original Time 1:49:06:17 Encoded Time 1:49:12:14
Has anyone else noticed this? I would think that these times would have to match or they wouldn't sync with the audio. I'll keep investigating.
Thanks,

@all
I have too notice and am having major problems with audio sync in V1.3.8. I can not get HP to sync at all. I don't think it Maestro, I too think it is DVD2DVDr
.
I am going to go back to V1.3.5 ...... I think V1.3.8 has had some bugs introduced into it somehow. I thought I had read that Chatwalker had fixed soem audio sync bugs in 1.3.8. Although in the prior version I never had sync problems, but I do now with 1.3.8.
Has anyone else confirmed NAV to be the problem with DVD2DVDr hanging up?
@defense
LOL, I was reading through the forum this weekend for subtitle probelms and came across a post you had made regarding SW EP2 AOTC, lol, this is also the one I am having problems with. I still haven't figured it out, and I did this with DVD2DVDr v1.3.5.......It too says overlapping subs, but hell if I could find them, I see no RED highlighted ones anywhere. So I don't know which ones to delete. LOL, but at least the audio seems to be in sync......
I am also a little confused, you mention IFOEdit........but I am not using IFOEdit. Am I missunderstanding something?sFX WE -
@All
I have been looking further into my problem and here is what I have found. The ECL that is passed from DVD2DVD-R for The Astronaughts Wife shows that there are 157104 frames and that the duration is 1:49:12:14. I believe the duration shown is calcualted from the number of frames that are passed into it. If you divide the number of frames by 23.976 per second, divide the result by 60 to convert to minutes you get 109.209209 minutes which can be converted to a duration of 1:49:12.
Makes sense right? Now here is the weird part. If you divide the frame count by 24 instead you get a duration 1:49:06, which is the duration reported by the DVD2DVD-R on the original? The exact same thing happens on the Chasing Amy DVD as well (I'll spare you the math).
So now here are my questions:
1. Should the encode duration match the duration on the original?
2 Has anyone else seen this with version 1.3.8?
3. Is there some configuration parameter that I need to change somewhere?
4. Could the process be passing the wrong frame count?
I have also noticed that the audio starts out in sync and gets worse. Probably has something to do with the difference in the duration time of the video and audio, but I have not had enough time to do a detailed analysis.
My current thinking is that there may be a rounding error in one of the programs some where so 23.976 is rounding to 24 prior to calculating the frame count. I will keep investigating this, but I wanted to post my analysis to date.
Thanks to all.

@ArrogantBastard
Has anyone else noticed this? I would think that these times would have to match or they wouldn't sync with the audio. I'll keep investigating.
I am STILL using 1.3.2 as I have mentioned, and I have not EVERY had a single freezing issue, or a single quality or playback issue. I haven't had a single problem using that version period. I really don't see any reason to upgrade. I can continue to use this version and not even sweat it. If a working version is introduced which would allow pulldown to be executed and there were no apparent bugs, then I would consider it. But I would just downgrade and your troubles should be elimated.
@sfxwe, LOL..that is funny that you too were doing SWII AOTC! That is the only movie I noticed the overlapping occur, and i'm not sure exactly where I went, but I played around with it and deleted some duplicate subs, and then Maestro accpeted the subs with no problem. There was still a sync issue. Anyway, i'm curious, did you use robw's method to experiment? Try using an earlier, more bug free version of DVD2DVDR and try his method. If you just use the drop_frame option and use the semicolon with ChapterXtractor, all of your subs should be in sync. I am sure it is frustrating, but that's life huh? lol..anyway, let us know how it works out. Thanks -
Every version after 1.3.5 is broken for me as far as audio sync goes. I posted about this a couple of pages back. You can let IFOedit master the DVD or manually master it with Maestro, doesn't matter, audio is broken.
FWIW, 1.3.5 works great. I have done quite a few DVDs using 1.3.5 and letting IFOEdit master the DVD (Yea, yea, I know, big no no) and done them by hand as well with Maestro. They have worked out great.
Go back to 1.3.5 and your audio problems will be solved. -
@defense and @KungFuCow
Thanks for the update and the advice. I thought I was going insane and the only one to have this issue. Hopefully Chatwalker can adress this in his next version. I saw a post from him on his website that he is getting ready to release an upgrade soon.
I will also post on his website in the english section so he knows it is still an issue.

There is a new utility called EclCCE that adds the load/save ECL (Encoder Control List) functionality to the CCE SP 2.66+ trial versions.
More info here:
https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=145958
Will this utility allow DVD2DVD-R to work with the latest version of CCE? -
I am experimenting between dvd2one, Instant copy and dvd2dvdr.
I did the others using dvd2dvdr, the whole process took around 3 hours (encoding at cbr) however I am having the same audio sync problems using version 1.38 on a NSTC dvd. I life in the UK.
Does this problem only arise on NSTC movies or it is with PAL also.
Please could some advise where to get a earlier version.
Email me at dbisset@willows.fslife.co.uk -
I think it effects pal and ntsc.....I think the last version that worked properly, was V1.3.5........

i have version 1.3.2 and 1.3.4 but no 1.3.5. Can someone post a website to get it from or send it me please.

I just did Hannibal tonight. It is well over 2 hous long, approx 7 gig.
The quality is superb. Region 2 PAL version.
In total it took around 3 hours to complete. I did not burn it, only played it on pc.
Have also done this with dvd2one, results almost identical. start to finish just over 40 minutes.

Huge 16:9 aspect ratio problem within tagging progressive frames within DVD2DVDR.
Hopefully someone can help me with what appears to be the biggest bug I've seen in DVD2DVDR yet. I have just realized that about "HALF" of my backups that i've reencoded with CCE using DVD2DVDR have some type of jitter/flicker problem around the borders. Mainly the bottom border. After three days of intense tests to try and figure out what the problem was, I've pinned it down to the fact that DVD2DVDR doesn't seem to be tagging my progressive frames properly or at all.
I noticed something I thought was odd a few weeks ago and that was when I set the three checks for upper field first, zig zag scanning order, and progressive frames, everything appeared ok, and the checks were still there while DVD2DVDR was ripping the movie, but AFTER everything was done I noticed that on SOME of my movies, the ONLY check mark that was left was the "upper field first" check mark.
The progressive frames and zig zag scanning order were NOT checked at the end project. I thought that was unusual, but while looking at my results, I didn't notice anything wrong. However, I was watching Dick Tracy the other day and I noticed that there was a RAPID flicker at the very bottom border, very noticeable once you see it and that prompted me to check all of my other reencoded movies.
About half of them had the SAME EXACT PROBLEM! I could not initially figure out what this problem was and after three full days I've finally concluded that the progressive frames aren't being tagged properly within DVD2DVDR and that is screwing up my movies.
I may be wrong, but I believe the reason that approximately half of my movies are perfect, and the other half have jerky playback around the bottom border is because of the fact that DVD2DVDR seems to uncheck some of the setting i've checked. All of my films are NTSC and I've noticed that when I re-rip the .M2V file and run pulldown on it with each frame "progressive" checked and burn the movie again the problem just disappears.
The movie is perfect at that point. Really, my questions now are one, has ANYONE else had this problem, and if so, what can be done, if anything to correct it? Two, what may be causing this to happen, am I right about DVD2DVDR? And three, by still using DVD2DVDR and having it not propertly tag progressive frames, if I run pulldown on it with progressive frames AFTERWARDS am I screwing anything up? I thought it was odd that the Phantom Menace was one of the problem movies, but Attack of the Clones wasn't. The reason for that is because one of the only movies I ran "progressive" frames on was Attack of the Clones, because I needed to along with the drop frame, to get subtitles. Fortunatley I did, that's ONE less movie I will have to redo..lucky me.
Something else which is interesting to note is that ALL of the problem movies appear as a flickering between progressive and Intlerlaced in DVD2AVI, and show as "INTERLACED" in bitrateviewer. What is odd about that is I have quite a few other movies that ALSO show the same way, but they DON'T have the flickering problem with the borders. Also, this problem seems to ONLY be apparent on 16:9 films. Anything that is full screen which I've done, even though it shows Interlaced and the progressive frames weren't tagged right, the 4:3 film still plays fine.
But half of the 16:9 movies have this HUGE problem, while the other half don't. That is what is the most baffling. I am glad I don't have to redo 25 or 30 movies as opposed to 10, but I would like to know why the other movies that were done the SAME way, such as Gladiator, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Trading Places, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, What Lies Beneath, Minority Report, Cast Away, Vanilla Sky..all of those movies are also showing "interlaced" within bitrateviewer, but they DON'T have the flickering or pulsating problems as the 10 or so 16:9 ones I've mentioned above do.
I'm thankful to of found the problem and be able to correct it by running each frame "progressive" with pulldown.exe, but I still would REALLY like to know why only half of those movies that were NOT tagged with progressive frames play PERFECTLY, while the other half have major problems.
I realized afterwards, that when running pulldown, I was just selecting the file and hitting "GO" I wasn't selecting each frame progressive, because I thought I didn't have to. The only reason I did that on attack of the clones was because I added subtitles, so I had to run proressive frames.
Anyway, if ANYONE can give me a little more info on this and let me know if it's ok to continue to use DVD2DVDR and just run progressive frames afterwards with pulldown.exe..i'd appreciate it. Thanks -
I had posted the same questions earlier in this thread.....about DVD2AVI returning the interlaced and progressive format. I also looked the the ecl file for CCE and most of the time it doesn't seem to have the same information that I had checked off in DVD2DVDr. I think someone else posted this about DVD2DVDr too. So now when DVD2DVDr is finished running I use the pulldown with the gui and check off progressive frames. In another thread I asked what that would do, and somone responded with an answer saying it would not hurt the file BUT he said do not choose progressive sequence.
When I ran the new m2v files through Bitrate Viewer and DVD2AVI they show progressive..... I dunno I hope we are doing it right. The movies seem to play ok tho......
sFX WE -
oPPPS.....I didn't mean ecl file I meant the info file in the folder created by DVD2DVDr that tells ya what it did.

The only problem I have ever had with version 1.3.4 is not completing. Then I must manualy do PULLDOWN on the file. No audio sync issues like the later version have. -
@sfxwe, interesting, I can see how I didn't catch your post on that question with this thread being so big. Running pulldown with progressive frames is the ONLY way to rectify this problem, unless a version of DVD2DVDR that is later then mine does it. What really sucks is how I never caught this before. I mean it's not something that's really obvious unless you are watching the movie thoroughly, but then it really sticks out when you notice it. What's weird about the problem though is that as I mentioned earlier, I did the same EXACT thing with DVD2DVDR and CCE on another 20 movies or so and those movies are ALL PERFECT. I mean, they show the same "interlace" info in bitrateviewer, but they don't cause playback issues.
I guess now that I know you've had this problem as well as others, the only thing left to figure out is HOW it is possible for me to have this OBVIOUS border/flicking/pulsating problem with half of the movies I didn't run pulldown with progressive frames on, and the other half I didn't run progressive frames on are PERFECT. I can't understand that and hopefully someone can let me know HOW that is possible. Don't get me wrong, I'm definitely ecstatic I don't have to re-do 30 movies as opposed to 10, but this has been a royal pain in the ass.
@joepic, thanks for the info and link, i'll check it out. Although I will say that I understand what bitrateviewer is showing and what it means, i'm just now trying to figure out why the other half of my movies done the same way "WITHOUT" the progressive frames run in pulldown play Perfectly, while the other half don't. It is very, very, baffling. -
