version 1.3.8 is now out and available to download.
Man, is it me, or is this thread starting to die since dvd2one came out?

Anyway, this version fixes the cce encoding error 1.3.7 had.
Would anyone even care to try it out?

@Frenetic24
V1.3.8 Works Great....I used it with the Meastro.
Yes it seems this thread is dying doesn't it.......
From the txt file in DVD2DVDR folder looks like if u use Scenarist it would be even easier. Anyone try that option yet?sFX WE -
@sfxwe
what kind of test did you run? Was it NTSC with pulldown and drop_frame? Did CCE quit and pulldown startup automatically? -
@Chatwalker.
The scenarist script for NTSC still has a problem. It is using the PAL template. See below....
Default Setting of Data Editor=Default Setting of Data Editor
{
Resolution=PAL
Drop Type=Non Drop
Default Still=Still Settings
{
Still Bit rate=8000000
Still Encode Type=MPEG 2
Still Size=720 x 576
Still Aspect Ratio=16 : 9 -

@robw
Yes I used pull down and drop frame etc..... I did SW AOTC. I set it up last night to do The Family Man, and guess what....I checked it this AM and it hungafter CCE, never got to pulldown
.
I have been running into this alot latley. As a matter of fact in the last 7 days, I have not been able to do one BU. I thought 1.5.8 was the answer, but this seems to have a problem too.
Anyone got any answers as to why this program keeps hanging after CCE process? Man it sure is frustrating. I have 2 computers I use to do BUs with, and on one I even went back and installed V1.3.5 which has always worked for me with no problems at all, but now even V1.3.5 is hanging. I dont get it, and I am about to loose my freakn mind, lol.
I am running Windows XP on both computers, one with SP1 and one without SP1. I have gone into the Admin Services settings and turned off any that can be possibly be turned off from running on start up automatically and I still can't get DVD2DVDr to complete a back up. I still have this problem on both computers, DVD2DVDr never completes.
I even reinstalled windows on one of the computers and still no luck.

@all
I too am having trouble with version 1.3.8 hanging after CCE finishes. This is causing me frustration for several reasons.
1. it means my computer will not shut off automatically, which defeats the purpose of unattended processing
2. when I return I still need to run and hence wait another 30 minutes while pulldown does its job.
For now here is my solution. Version 1.3.4 has been fairly reliable about completing. That is, it has only given me a problem one time and then only when I was simultaneously using the computer for other purposes. When I use 1.3.4 with energy savings turned off (I just turn the power to the monitor off instead) and I don't use the computer for anything else, all goes well.
A SUGGESTION: I have not seen Chatwalker make comments on this board for some time. I take this to mean (of course I could be wrong) that he is not visiting here. I think it would be better to direct issues with the programs performance directly to his board. You must register but that is simple (but it is in German ... easy to follow none the less). Chatwalker's board does have an English language section and he does respond to issues there. Here is a link:

@robw
Do you by any chance remember the difference between 1.3.4 and 1.3.5? What issue did 1.3.5 fix over 1.3.4?sFX WE -
From Chatwalker's site:
Ver 1.3.5 [18.01.2003]
- Timestamp-Bug in Subtitles fixed
- Subtitle-Extension fixed
- wrong Audioindex-Bug fixed
- wrong Audiodelay-Bug fixed
- PCM-'File not found'-Bug fixed
- some additional small Bugfixes
- CCE-Control modified -
@robw
Thanks for the info.......
I just don't get it.....I installed V1.3.8 yesterday, fired it up did one BU, and have failed now 3 times with others. CCE just hangs, and I haven't changed a thing.......Why would it work once and then suddenly stop working all together? I luv this program, sniff sniff.........
Well maybe Chat will fix it soon.....me keeps my fingers crossed.sFX WE -
@robw
Hey robw, ya know how when you install DVD2DVDr, it says that your trying to install an older file version, and then it asks you if you want to keep the newer version or install an older version over the newest one? I always choose to keep the newer version, what do you choose?
Wonder if we should choose installing the older one over the new one, I wonder if that would help fix the problem? What do you guys think? Anyone tried that yet?sFX WE -
if u get hangs just after CCE finishes it stuff, try this, go into task manager and close down as much stuff as u can possible. Turn of Screen savers and power managment.
this sould fix the problem, Trouble is that DVD2DVDR is so sensitive to things running in the background.
Btw thanks chat for the mutilingual instalation program, AND for the Program it self. Beats DVD2ONE 100 fold. -
@wayned16
I Agree DVD2DVDr ROCKS
I have shut down everything, I even went into Admin Services settings and shut down things from starting up, but still no luck......sFX WE -
@robw - thanks for the link for that guide, exactly what I have been needing!!
@dhluke - thanks for the guide!!
Thanks to everyone for the great tips!

1.3.8 will still not do 2:3 pulldown for me, but it will do NTSC with force-film only. The problem I'm having is I don't have anything to author except IFOEdit, and the audio is about 3 seconds out of sync, so my backup is useless....

I got problems with DVD2DVD-R 1.3.8, if I do 2 movies on the second one it tells me "not enough memory" (in german) but I have 512 MB DDR and never had that with the other version, I went back to 1.3.7 and everything is fine.
[-Neoh*-]|[-Cheers-] -
version 1.3.8 is very nice. It is fast and works great up through CCE. Total encode time for a 2+ hour movie by 2-pass vbr was ~3 hours. That's very nice. Beautiful results too.
However, there is still a problem. This is the same problem that has persisted through the past several versions. In some versions the problem is not as critical (for me version 1.3.4 is best) but its still there if you don't watch out. That is, the program tends to stop after CCE has finished its work. Not only must I complete the job manually it also means that the computer does not shutdown. This prevents efficient automated processing. If I leave the computer running in the morning, it runs all day and does not shut down.
This is not an issue with CCE itselft based on my experience with DVD2SVCD. The mij process for converting a DVD9 to DVD-R with DVD2SVCD also can use CCE.
https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=114252
I have found that this procedure works very well indeed for some issues is superior to DVD2DVD-R. Here is why.
I am still completely free to use my computer while it simultaneously processes the film. No problem. It rips the vob's to disk as well and the primary streams. This makes it easier to process subtitles with subrip. It never fails to run pulldown and later shutdown the computer.
On the otherhand, DVD2SVCD does not run pulldown with a drop_frame flag, but I only need this if I include subtitles which isn't too often.
So overall, DVD2DVD-R version 1.3.4 works fairly well. If I don't touch my computer once I start the process it seems to finish (CCE, pulldown, shutdown, etc.). But I must be careful not to use my computer in any way. DVD2SVCD does not do the bitrate calculation so you are forced to do your own calculation (simple though it is ... I use powerbit). -
@robw
Can you please try to help an IDIOT (yes, that would be me, lol) I can't count how many times I have read this forum from start to finish. It seems the more I read it the more I confuse myself, lol.
If I check a VOB in BitRate Viewer and it shows a frame rate of 29.97 like in SWE2 AOTC.....do I need to run force film? And Why. I don't understand. If a dvd is true flim @ 24 fps, will bitrate show it at 24 fps or will it show it at 29.97 because of the drop frames or flags. So I guess my question is if the dvd is *NOT* flim @ 24 fps and it is frame @ 29.97 ntsc should we *NOT* check the force fil option and pull down / drop flag ?
ThankssFX WE -
@sfxwe
you are no idiot from what I have seen. You're question is a very good one indeed. It is most difficult to find the answer to these questions in a completely unambiguous way so let me tell you my thinking and experience.
First, when people make movies they are shoot film. That means its being shot much like an old fashion movie camera, meaning a whole frame at a time. When these films are shown in movie theaters it is still being displayed as film. The projector in the back has a big real and the film is moving past the light as a frame. Clearly, none of this stuff is being done interlaced. Interlaced is just what television uses. So nearly all releases of movies are set up as film. The exception is when the original shooting was all along intended to go to television. For example, a serial comedy that was originally made for T.V. would likely be interlaced.
Now, if it is film it is always (I think there is no exception) at 30 fps. This has to do with how the human eye detects motion and a compromise between cost (more film) and quality and also the fact that electricity in many regions is sent at 60Hz.
So 30 fps is the standard for film. However, televisions (most anyway ... exception is for progressive display set which are still rare) display as interlaced and this is displayed as 29.97 fps. However, TV is repeating some frames when it shows interlaced. This is rather complex and beyond what I want to say here but briefly... TV is starting with frames and repeating 1 frame for every 4 original ones. The point is that your standalone player is starting with film that is at 23.976 fps and they are being displayed at 29.97 fps. Notice that for every 5 frames one has been repeated so 23.976 * (5/4) = 29.97 fps. I'm not sure if I helped with this explanation or not!
So, if you start with a film from a movie it is almost always necessary to run "force film" for NTSC (Region 1). The encoder (CCE) is now working with 24 fps. Now when it is played back with the pulldown (which is turning 4 frames into 5 we are back at 30 fps. Finally, to get the 29.97 frames we also included the drop_frame when we ran pullown. This final drop_frame tells your standalone DVD player to skip 2 frames every minute (except at 10 minute intervals) which is just what is needed to turn 30 fps to 29.97fps.
I only hope this explanation is of some value to you. Its all fairly convoluted. The simple answer is that for nearly all NTSC (Region 1) movies you should run "force film" and later run pulldown with the drop_frame flag. -
Thanks for the info bro........
I think if I understand you right, what your saying is the video is at 29.97, but force film takes out the extra frames and brings it back to its raw format, so we can encode it. Then after the encoding we need to add the extra frames and the add the drop frame so the set top knows when to drop those 2 extra frames??????sFX WE -
@Robw,

I should probably write a guide ... but have you noticed how many there are? urgh!!!
So let me be brief. First I have done my share of subtitles and I have no problem whatsoever. The key issue is that when you are doing subtitles you must also use the drop_frame flag when you do pulldown. If you don't do subtitles you can use the drop_frame flag or not .. works either way.
(option A) Now if you do use drop_frame then you need to use ChapterXtractor with the following format: hh:mms;ff (note semi-colon).
(option B) If you do not use drop_frame (i.e. you aren't going to do subtitles) then you must use hh:mms:ff format with ChapterXtractor.
So now first import and place your video and sound assets into DVD Maestro. Next import the chapters. If you used the drop_frame video you may next import subtitles (but you do not need too!).
So, the bottom line is that drop_frame video works either way but without drop_frame you can't import the subtitles.
Hope its clear ... If not I will try to be more specific to your questions. -
Thanks for the info again
. You should make a guide.....you have some good advice.....
If I can help let me know, lol......
DVD2DVDr Rocks, the only thing that seems to be holding it back is IFO Edit, and CCE finishing it up.
It seems with the way we are stuck doing this now (With Maestro, and the authoring process by hand), all we really need is a simple program to feed a demuxed video to CCE for encoding that works. I hope Chat doesn't give up and I hope he keeps plug'n away, but it is wierd how we haven't heard from him latley.
Anyone know where to get DVDx 2.1......... it is freeware right?sFX WE -
@ robw, I do have another question for you. I know about that semicolon trick used with ChapterXtractor and Maestro, becase NYplayer helped me out with that a few weeks ago. The question I have though is that I read all the guides with subtitles and Maestro and they ALL say the same thing. When using subtities you create two pulldown files.
One with the drop flag, and the other just a normal pulldown, meaning that I can use the GUI and select nothing, and run pulldown. Then the guides say that you import the FIRST "regular" pulldown, then your chapters, then you remove the first pulldown, and replace it with the DROP flag pulldown, THEN you add your subtitles, am I correct so far? I did EXACTLY that, but still had issues. I only tried it on a couple of movies, and Attack of the Clones was the one that gave me the most trouble.
I actually had some asset overlapping errors in Maestro when I tried that movie with subs. Have you ever seen that "asset overlapping" error in Maestro? When I checked it out, it seemed as though about three of the subtitles were duplicated, so I just deleted the ones marked in red and continued. Still had my subs out of sync by about a second though. Not too bad, but it wasn't pefect. Anyway, i'm just curious what ChapterXtractor has to do with this method. I know that sometimes you have to replace the colon with a semicolon, but I ONLY replace the colon with a semi colon if the normal import with the colon doesn't work in Maestro. MOST of the time for me, the import with the preset colon works.
If it doesn't, then I change it to a semicolon, and it works. But with Attack of the Clones, ALL of my chapters imported with the COLON, so I didn't worry about the semi colon. Are you saying that you should ALWAYS use the semicolon no matter what? Even if the import works with the colon? Further, are you saying that the subtitles won't be in sync if you don't use the "semi colon" as opposed to the colon? I'm not sure where the relation is. IF you could just clarify those points, I would appreciate it. Thanks again. -
@robw.......
I wouldn't blam ya if ya said NO WAY in helll........but I will ask anyways.
Could you look at the guide on Doom9 site using DVDx V2.1 which seems to allow you to use CCE. And tell us what settings we should use in CCE for DVD instead SVCD? Seems like this could be our answer for getting what we need to master a DVD in Maestro? Or am I way off base? I read the guide but don't understand the CCE settings. I will try to read it over again.........
