thanks for the help that many of you gave me with dvdmaestro.
now, before i start again with dvd2dvdr, let me see if this checklist is correct, for ntsc the others.
in dvd2dvdr :
uncheck upperfield
check progressive
check force film
question: where do i check to save disc space so i have room to burn?
then after done, how do i complete the job in dvdmaestro?
i will likely burn in recordmax as i feel it doeas a better job than nero for me.
if anyone could guide me, it would be much appreciated.
thanks.
work is boring -

Right here is where I am getting confused....I am using the new version of DVD2DVDR 1.3.4....I have read that the authoring is automated ie it puts in the necessary VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders and files....is this correct....( without encoding or/and with encoding )...looking on my hard drive, this seems to be true...its just that I have tried to burn the dvd using nero UDF 1.02, but my set top dvd player doesn't recognise it...even though it plays fine on my pc....is it because I need to author it myself or is it because I should be using the UDF/ISO 1.02 method....the only other dvd I have backed up was using dvd decrypter, which was a straight forward copy, and this works great on my set top player....any other method of burning would be appreciated as I am very new to this and have read all of the posts...also any step by step guides on getting the right sub-title colours would also be appreciated
Thanx

Just a little help for those of you having problems playing movies only on set top player after using dvd2dvdr ,ifoedit, and nero. I could play all my 1:1 copies ripped using dvddrcryter, but when I went through dvd2dvdr and burned a movie the movie would play on 2 of my players but not the 3rd (Toshiba SD-2800).
Didn't matter if it was reencoded or not. Would only play on 1 consistently and another intermittently. The third was no go. After extensive searching on these forums I found a solution that worked. At first I thought it was dvd2dvdr or ifoedit, so I tried authoring with maestro. Still no good.
It seems burning with nero was the problem. If iI burned using udf or udf/iso I had problems. The fix was to create an image first, using ifoedit. Then burning the image with nero 5.5.9.17. Now this solution has worked to enable me to play the movies on all 3 players consistently so far on all 3 players.
I have tried 4 movies now and all work. I hope this helps some people. -
I am using the newest version 1.3.4 and have no probs with it, burn as a DVD Video with Nero 5.5.917 and it has played in the following players, by the way these are 4.3 to 4.4 gig DVD+R's or DVD+RW's and all brands have worked.
Panasonic DVD-R Recorder E10 and E20
Panasonic RA60
Sampo 631CF
Daewoo 5700, 5800 & 5900
APEX 600, 500a
I am doing Antz with DVD2DVDR right now as I am doing this forum, takes about 4.5 hrs to get a movie ripped, 2 pass VBR and Burned on a DVD+R and not a one has failed, as long as I also use Force Film every time. -
I used dvd2dvd-r to male 10 copies so far and burnt them with RecNow, Never had a single problem. It records even faster than nero for me on some DVDs (went up the 4x on a DVD+R from philips.)

I'm using DVD2DVD-R 1.3.4 and haven't had probs with it before.
Now I'm trying to backup BAD COMPANY, which needs to be re-encoded.
CCE is set to encode @ VBR 2 passes.
I'm using an ISO (DVD Decrypter) mounted in Daemon Tools.
I already tried 4 times to do this movie, but everytime I get an error message... CCE stops at exactly 50% in the first pass and is then closed by Windows (error-message -> CCE will be closed by windows...).
Anybody who has or had the same problem?

Also could anyone please tell me if you still need to author in dvd2dvdr even though it is automated and also a step by step guide to changing the subtitle colours

What's up? I need a little help and you have given me good advise before.
Have a couple of question. I have installed 1.3.2.
1) Do you manually have to end CCE when it is done?(I did!)
2) Does Pulldown start own it own in this version?(If I ever get that far)
3) Do you unzip all the .CAB files first then click on the setup icon or is it the other way around.
And my last ?
In IfoEdit ever time I Author new DVD and load in the correct files and click OK I get error message=Could not open for writing=. What the deal with that. -

@ Anybody, I too sometimes get that I-Frame rate error in Maestro when importing chapters. From what i've read, it has something to do with the time on the time stamp. It has to be reset to 0's or something. I am hoping someone will let us know.
Also, when I went to import my subtitles on the "DROP" file, they all imported, but I got some type of asset overlapping error in Maestro. I opened the subtitles, and saw a few of them that were in "red" were the same times as ones right below them, and they looked like duplicates. I just deleted one set of the doubles, and kept the rest. Then I didn't get the asset overlapping error, but my subtitles were out of sync by about a second or 1 and a half seconds. Someone would speak, and then the subtitle would show what they said about a second or so later. I did add subtitles AFTER the "drop.m2v" file was on movie line, but they were still out of sync. Can anyone tell me why? I would appreciate it. Thanks -

I upgraded ASPI to the latest version from adaptec's site and upgraded the firmware on my pioneer A04 to version 1.4 and so far so good. I've done LOTR fellowship of the ring and apocalypse now and they've come out great.
So the trick seems to be latest firmware for the dvd writer and latest aspi...
good luck, hope this helps anyone who was having the same trouble as I was. -
@ people having trouble with Maestro:
Go to Doom9's forums
http://forum.doom9.org
and do a search on "Maestro + Your Problem"
Chances are those people have already solved it.
Good Luck! -

Guess what? No problem with that new movie!
When this one was finished I retried BAD COMPANY and no more error messages. The movie was encoded without errors.
But allthough I checked the options to author using IfoEdit in DVD2DVD-R, DVD2DVD-R stopped after the encoding process?!
Can't figure out what's the problem...

@ -BK-
CCE can get you a lot of headache sometimes.
When it does that to me, my usual solutions are:
1. Uncheck antinoise filter (if checked)
2. Change (lower) number of passes (if you say it froze at 50%, I guess you were doing 2 passes, right?)
3. Lower bitrate
4. Change from Bicubic to Bilinear or Simple resize.
and 99.999% it gets through. -
Thanks for the tips, Arianos.
Forgot to tell I made some changes to the encoder options in DVD2DVD-R.
I used BitRateViewer to see the settings of the original movie and I noticed 3 out of the 6 encoder options in DVD2DVD-R were wrong (in 9 out of 10 movies, DVD2DVD-R always checks the right options).

@-BK-
I read all 14 pages and I must agree with you 100%. I'm quite new to this but I think I'm learning fast.
@Everyone...
If BitrateViewer identify Field Top First = True, should I do the opposite every time ??
My understanding is YES cause it seems to be a bug in BV but I just want to be sure...
Thank you and keep on the good work everyone ! -
@SyCo
A bug in BV ???
Are you sure?
I always use the settings I read out of BV...
-BK- -
@-BK-
quote "For NTSC, I believe the proper protocol for this is to leave it unchecked _unless_ BitRateViewer says it is NOT Upper Field First
(due to a 'bug' in CCE). If you are wrong, however, you can run Pulldown to switch them and don't have to start the process over again."
this is my source maybe it is CCE after all but I will do some more testing.
I have always done NTSC no forced film until know. But I read that Forced Film with a pulldown give much better results in action scenes and I will try that/
I was asking for the upper field first setting but I think it doesn't matter if I'm gonna use Forced Film + Drop Frame + pulldown in the future...
Am I right ?
thanks again ! -
This should help those struggling with the "field order" issue
How To Determine The Correct Field-Order
http://hilljack.vampirez.com/fieldorder.htm -
the prob i encountered was with the pulldown, so I completed a succesful backup.
cool program.
i thought that dvd2dvdr was supposed to completed the pulldown automatically, oh well.
thanks -
@robw
Thanks a lot
I will try with TMPGEnc and compare with BitrateViewer to see if they both gave me the appropriate information about Upper Field being first or not.
cheers -
Hi,
I just made my first DvD-R yesterday but got a problem. I backup Back to the future I, NTSC.
I made the mv2 file and extract french and english AC3 sound with DvD2DvD-R v1.3.4. I used ForceFilm. The program stop after CCE 2.5 but didnt exit it.
So I stop it manually, then did the pulldown.exe command: pulldown <infile>.mv2 <outfile>.mv2
After I extracted the chapters with chapterXtractor.
Then I imported the 2 soundtracts, the pulldown mv2 and the chapters in DvDMaestro. I used the 16:9 option. Then I compiled and burn the DvD.
On my computer, with PowerDvD, the dvd plays fine in 16:9 widescreen. But on dvdplayer, it plays full screen. If I zoom out to 50% on my dvdplayer, the movie is like a normal 16:9 widescreen movie.
So my question is, what did I do wrong? I suspect its either the pulldown or something in DvDMaestro. When I did the pulldown, i got a message saying "Doing a 4:3 pulldown..."
BTW the sound is in perfect sync and the video quality is awsome (I used CCE, 1 pass VBR)
Thanks -
i get that problem alot lately, CCE does not close it self when using 1.3.4, i have to close it my self and carry on the last few steps by myself. So if anyone has any suggestions, i would be more than happy to try.
Before i start the process i close all application down, what are currently running in the foreground. But i dont close apps what are on the taskbar. Maybe this causes it. CCE used to close and do the whole process it self, since i formated my pc it dont anymore -
@herbapou
did you set it to 16:9 in dvd maestro..under the sections where you add movie, sound and subtitles files you will see it shows you either 4:3 or 16:9 click on this and it will allow you to change this setting. -
I tried to install this program but the install routine is in German. I clicked OK on all, computer reboots but no program! Is there an English version of the program? Does it work in Windows ME??
