You dont need the SP2 before SP3 for 2K. It is cumulative. It checks what you have then gives what you dont have. If your on a broadband connection and use more than one PC or do fairly frequent reformats then I'd suggest downloading the "for IT administrators" SP3. It has all updates for every version of 2k, including pro, server and advanced server. Its about 124MB in size but has everything you'll need save for maybe a couple small updates that were put out since the August release of this pack. One error I recently had was it wouldnt install anything directly off the site. I downloaded the big patch and it installed. Still couldnt get anything else though. Wanna know what the problem was? The system's clock was wrong. It said march of 2000 so no patches wanted to install that were released after that. Isnt that some crap? lol.

click on the link to the right for the network install optionl. That gives you all available portions at once...and only one reboot too...

  4. This soft is amazing, 1.3.4 is all automated from the beg to the end. But i read that you should use ifoedit yourself because of time not showing correctly and/or synch prob. Do I??? I tryed with Walt Disney's ATLANTIS PAL DVD and it seems to be good on my PC, but my standalone DVD sees the disk as an MP3 disk and won't do a thing (sony DVD+RW media written with NERO and played in a bluesky 2210 s) is it the media? I though my dvd could read +RW.

PS: I will translate the http://users.pandora.be/DVD2DVD-R/ tutorial from Dutch to English and make screenshots with V 1.3.4 some time this week. I'll keep you informed.

  7. I ran the DVD2dvdr 1.3.4 for testing on movie Jumanji (PAL) and I got at the end the following files:

    CellTimes.txt
    Checked_Audio_0x80_English.AC3
    Info.txt
    JUMANJI_COLLECTORS_EDITION.ECL
    ORIGINAL.IFO
    Subtitle_0x20_English.SUP
    Video_0xE0.AVS
    Video_0xE0.d2v
    Video_0xE0.M2V
    Video_0xE0_NEW.M2V
    Video_0xE0_NEW.M2V.vif
    Video_0xE0_NEW.VAF

should I expect more. I mean did the software DVD2DVDr did what is expected completely. The reason why I'm asking is that after the CCE process the software and the log window did not indicate anything about the completion of CCE and I have to terminate the software manually after a long wait ; however, the resulted file Video_0xE0.m2v was OK in size and with the AC3 file they will be able to fit in one DVD-R (of course after creating the iso image) .

Again , my question, should I expect more than the listed files above. Also, did the DVD2DVDr complete the process ? I thought the automatic process in 1.3.4 will do everything and what will remain is only burning the DVD-r. by the way, I read all the threads regarding this software and I got a little bit confused especially on what will be the final result of this software( ver. 1.3.4).

Finally, I still belive this is a close to perfect software and a dream comes true.

  8. If DVD2dvdr 1.3.4 has worked and i have found it does not work every time i use it, it will have created a second DVD directory with VIDEO_TS & AUDIO_TS inside. i have to copy this directory to the root of the drive to copy back to dvd. If it has not worked you can use ifoedit to rebuild the directory & fix the vts sectors. the full instructions have been posted on this forum.

Only a sugestion for burning the DVD made by DVD2DVDR -

I tried many burners, but in my DVD ( Pionner dv-353 ) the one that work was using NERO with DVD-ROM UDF. I tried DVD-ROM UDF-ISO, but don´t work.

Oh, and use UDF 1.02. If don´t work for you, try changing to the UDF 1.50.
Some new players must use 1.50.

  13. Is there anyone out there that knows how to fix this software so that #1 its in english and #2 it does NTSC? I just used this program and authored in IFOedit following the guide and it worked great. 7.9GB down to 4.4GB exactly. Sound totally in synch, very little screen resolution problems, no blockiness. The person that can port this would be a hero in my book and I am sure others.

  14. Does anyone know how I can run PULLDOWN.EXE after it has failed in the process in DVD2DVDR. I think that I forgot to click on the icon when I installed the program. I hope that there is away to run it, because I don't want to have to wait for another 3 hours.

    Sure could use some help!

Yes, a true hero. Just as BETAMAX was technology superior to VHS, I'm sure PAL is superior to NTSC, but that's what we're stuck with here in the US. I'd love to be able to use this wonderful package, but if you need to use PULLDOWN on it (most likely for NTSC movies) then you can't use IFOEDIT due to the bug.

Perhaps Darrow will go back to IFOEDIT once DVDXCOPY company goes bankrupt from the lawsuit ? Is it open source? Are they any other programmers who could look at the IFOEDIT bug for M2V streams that have been PULLDOWN'd ?

An IFOEDIT hero is what we need ... *grin*

My backup method decision process is:

    1) Is it single layer (or less than 4.3gb)? Use Dvddecryptor ISO read and write.

    2) Would it fit on 4.3gb DVDR media with audio streams and/or extras removed? Use IFOEDIT on ripped vobs.

    3) Is the main feature still too big? Use ...??... I don't have a proven, working process here. I've tried several processes and had little luck .. If only IFOEDIT had an ironed-out (debugged) DVD authoring system that worked better with NTSC ... *sigh* I'll keep waiting!

  18. Just wanted to share something I noticed with 1.3.4 version. It is all automated from beg to end ONLY if there is no encoding required. because ifoedit searches for a file called moviename.m2v and it won't find it because after encoding the file is called "Video_0xE0_NEW.M2V"
So for the ifoedit part you will need to do it the old fashioned way.

THX for the info mate, I burned Cast Away PAL on a DVD+RW using UDF 1.02 and it plays perfectly on my standalone DVD instead of saying the DVD is an MP3 disk

yes that is all you will get if the movie wasn't re-encoded you wouldn't get the .ecl or the Video_0xE0_NEW.M2V

you can find pulldown at link below plus if you scan back a few pages in this section there will be other links for pulldown and how to use..

Dude trying using DVD Maestro, it is a breeze to use and the DVD come out great. Just follow the same process as usual, but author the DVD with DVD Maestro instead. Just check out the following link for simple instructions, of course ingore the first three steps.

  22. Ok....here is where I am at with this. I have seen what a Pal DVD looks like on both of my players (apex ad500w and pioneer dv333). A pal dvd on the Apex looks fine since they support both pal and ntsc. On the pioneer however, the screen goes almost toally grey and looks like a black/white tv with horizontal hold off kilt. That being said, here is what I got at the end of my first experience with DVD2DVDR. I used the latest version (I think 1.3.6) and ripped Godafther 3. I had 20GB available on the drive, but the program errored out after 14 hours right at the authoring stage due to insufficient space on the hard drive left. I opened up IFOedit and went to author dvd option. I loaded the new M2V and the audio track and the celltimes.txt file for the chapters. Like I said before, 7.2GB is what I started with and I ended up with 4.4GB exactly. Anyway, when I finally burned the DVD, it played fine in my Apex of course. In the pioneer however, I did not have a "pal experience" as I thought I would have. Instead there are little screen flickers and jumps that really are not that bad. I suspect I am in fact somewhere in the middle between pal and ntsc. We'll call it the twilight zone. Anyway, the movie is almost acceptable, at least comparable to a vcd. I had hoped to upgrade the firmware on the pioneer to accept pal but can find nothing. Any suggestions on where to go from here? thanx

  23. Great Prog!

    Three questions

    1) Force Film -

I am doing all NTSC, but do I only use this switch when the source DVD is 23FPS, I have
a DVD whose source material is video, and BitRateViewer says it is 29FPS/
    scan type: alternate/interlaced -
given this do I use Force Film or not? (and do I have to change any of the other switches)

    2) Pulldown -

Do I _always_ have to run pulldown (if encoding is involved)?
And if I am not concerned with Subtitles at all,
    I can
just run the one-pass simple command (i.e. 'pulldown oldfile newfile') - Correct?

    3) WinISO -

Anyone have a quick tutorial, I have a few DVD backups that are the component files, not done with and ISO rip.
Anyone got a quick tutorial (somewhat idiot proof) on how to make this and ISO file and mount it (I haven't done
either but am not a novice...)

Any help appreciated - all my DVDs are NTSC and envolve compression (dvd9 > dvd5)

    Thanks
    Will

  24. im using 1.3.2 version.

when i had all the media (m2v,ac3,celltimes and subs)
i used the ifoedit authoring guide but when i play it back on powerdvd the film plays great but no subs even though it gives me the option to open a subtitle.

btw. in ifoedit it did say something about a stream arriving to late.

    please help.

  25. @antonio,

Can you tell me a bit more about the ifoupdate ? I have tried it, but with no success ...

Should get VTS sectors be run before ifoupdate or not ?
A little complete tutorial would be nice and certainly help a lot of other people. Also, there are many different settings in ifoupdate, which onces should be selected etc ...

I know to me, and many others, the extra's on a disk are as important as the movie itself. I really like this software, but that is a problem that will be fixed when clonedvd will be released, probably in march. That one will do the complete disk in one go, including everything.
Till then, this is the only alternative.

    Thanks in advance.
    Zwieber.

Thanks for shareing such a great program with your fellow members.

    @robw
Thanks for all the help you've provided us with our questions and always answering a member who needs help.

After going through all 12 threads of this post, i've come to a realization.....i'm confused about the process of backing up NTSC dvds with this program

Using 1.3.4, i've watched the program go through the whole entire process with out any flaws, except for the end result where the movie looks jagged and "choppy" during lots of movement.

I've seen different checklists to go through about what to do and what not to do with NTSC dvd's but some of them conflict with each other.

Can one kind, knowledgeable member help us newbies out by providing us with a quick run down on the ntsc process?

    Thanks in advance

Since you at least took the time to go through all the thread, I will take the time to answer youre question

The reason it looks jagged its because you checked upper field first, even if bitrateviewer says topfield=true, dont listen to it, I dont care if its interlaced or not, re-encore again do not select upper field first and give it a try, I promise a Big difference.

Let me know youre findings, if that didtn work then I may be of help, give me all your specs.

    thanks

  29. @Frenetic24

    Thanks for the reply,

I didn't check upper field first, i went with the defaults and the results are the same, what i think the problem is that the movie is being ripped and encoded at 29.97 where it needs to be 23fps because of ntsc. I'm trying to figure out if that has somthing to do with pull down or if i have to demux, convert to 23fps, then remaux?

You cannot use IFOEDIT to author NTSC Films. You must use another authoring tool. There is a bug in ifoedit that NTSC films will not author correctly. The best you can do is,

    1. Run DVD2DVDR disable the authoring flag in settings.
    2. You must check in the encoder tab force film and the Drop Frame flag.
    3. You will then have to use DVDmaestro to author.
    4. You will have to rip the chapters and subs using seperate tools.
