ok, kinda scatterbrained this morning I guess. In response to whether there are any errors being reported, the answer is no. It doesn't show any problems from beginning to end.
I have tried DVD2DVDR on two different movies and both times have received the exact same results. When I use another method I don't get the delay, only when I use the DVD2DVDR program. I have the setting for delay to 0, but that's sort of a given as I can't change the setting it's grayed out.
Do you know of any guide in English that is available that I could print out to make sure I'm not skipping any steps?

VIDEO_TS.VOB Is a menu file. Since you authored with ifoedit you have no menus. You can still burn it with imgtools vder 0.99.4 www.doom9.net. Make sure Reallocate VIDEO_TS structure is unchecked.

@redwingnut
What region dvds are you doing and what ones.
when you are using powerdvd and get unsupported error it means you are trying to read a region coded file.
i have used dvd2dvdr from 1.3.0 up to current 1.3.3 with no probs with delay in audio. i have only done PAL mostly and am now doing NTSC also error free.
dvd2dvdr is correct most of time when it configures the encoder settings so i leave these has they are unless doing NTSC (where i have to select Force Film option).
if encoding is needed i set the reserve space to 10mb. in the settings i turn down the css detection to has far has it will go because i strip out all the macrovision and region coding using dvd decryptor. i then click go to start the ripping process. that
these are the steps i use for ripping.
1) use dvd decryptor to rip has an iso to remove region coding and macrovision.
2) mount iso has a virtual dvd using daemon tools (latest version).
3) start up dvd2dvdr (if Pal the settings are 90% correct) so leave has. I rip out all the things i don't want like subtitles and extra audio tracks. and then sit back while it does its stuff, at the end of process if re-encoding was needed i end up with two .m2v files and one .ac3 file.
4) open up ifoedit 0.95 and select dvd author. In the video section add the file Video_0xE0_NEW.m2v (if had to re-encode) or Video_0xE0.m2v (if no encoding needed). In the audio section select the .ac3 file. In the scene changes/chapters section i put in the celltimes file. Last section is the path to where you want for it to create the vobs and click ok.
5)Once Ifoedit has finished exit it and re-open and go to path where newly created vobs are ifoedit created And open up the vts_xx_xx.ifo file and perform get vts sectors click ok on all messages, When finished quit ifoedit and re-open same .ifo file and click on dvdplay to make sure movie is ok.
6) if movie is ok i then burn to dvd-r with nero using dvd video option.
try these steps and see if you get same error.
there is a guide for using dvd2dvdr a few posts back created by BK but it is in dutch, he said he will do a english translation one soon. -
@HideOut
I"ve backed up Band of Brothers. It's DVD-9 but since there's only 2 episodes per disc, I had no problems re-encoding this. I can't remember the exact bitrate I ended up using. I haven't tried DVD2DVD-R yet, but I used CCE to re-encode. I also only kept the AC3 5.1 sound.

I want to be able to make sure that there is a menu option of whichever eppisode of the show is on the disk. I still have yet to burn my first dvd and I've owned my burner for 2 weeks. Im kinda nervous. I got 20 free blanks so maybe I should just give it a whirl. Maybe I'll use my one RW disk first for practice. It's gonna play on a AD 1200 standalone so it should work.
Thanks,

@ mosh
Thanks again for all the help. Those are very detailed instructions and I will give them a try. The DVDs I'm working with are all region 1 discs.
Like I said I'll give it another go and let ya know. Thanks -
just a couple of questions regarding this program. 1) Subtitles when used w/ this program are higher up and actually intrude the picture of the movie from the bottom when more then one sentence is said. Has anyone else noticed this? I know from reading that IFOEdit has a problem w/pulldown and the frames apparently are going faster then they should, but does this have anything to do with the subtitles, or is it something different? I used subtitles for Harry Potter and LOTR. When I turn the subtitles on from both movies from the authored disc, when "one" sentence is said, the subtitles appear in the black box/border below the actual film which is widescreen 16:9. But when two or more sentences are spoken, the subtitles intrude the picture. They don't do this on the actual disc. Is there any reason for this? I can live with it, but i'm just curious as to why it is happening. Also, has anyone figured out a way to use DVD2DVDR w/ Maestro and still add subtitles? I know that DVD2DVDR creates that spruceup subtitle file, but can we I that, or do I need to create them with subrip or something else? I know there is something like MAESTROSBT as well, do I need that too? Thanks in advance
-
@redwingnut
Sorry i should have said that i use ifoedit for authoring PAL and Spruceup for NTSC because of a bug in ifoedit it can't recognize NTSC files that have been run thru Pulldown to correct NTSC framerate.
to author NTSC after running thru dvd2dvdr has i said i use Spruceup and manually set the chapter points but you can also use maestro and chapter xtractor i haven't used maestro because i can't find where to d/l a trial version, so others here should be able to help you if you have this software, if you have spruceup i can give you some help for this. -
@ mosh
Thanks again, now let's see if I can be of help. Take a look for Maestro at
http://www.fukrulez.com/ I just downloaded it today.
I'm so new at this stuff that I'm in a bit over my head I think but I'm slowly figuring it out. -
@redwingnut
Thanks for above.
i tried most of the other ways and to re-encode and was getting 40 hours to do it even after leaving for hour then showed at 36 hours. So i had given up ripping discs bigger than 4.7 and didn't want to put onto 2 dvd-r's until this software came along and now 4/5 hours later i have a re-encoded dvd all ready for playing.
it will be good to know if you have success with the instructions i gave because they will be able to hopefully help others who are new to this software. you have most probably seen thruout this topic that other posts show how to add subtitles if you wanted them -
Still need some help. I got the program installed and ripped a movie.
How do I burn the movie if it does not not need re-encoding?
Right now I have the movie "Liberty Stands Still" ripped and re-encoded(which I don't think it needed). What files do I drag over in a program to burn to a DVD. Movie plays fine in IfoEdit![/list]Here are my files from the movie.
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTO_01_1.VOB
VTO_01_2.VOB
VTO_01_3.VOB
HELP ANYONE PLEASE -
@Merciless
Put al these files in a folder VIDEO_TS in the root of your DVD-R(W)+R(W).
After this you also put an empty folder AUDIO_TS in the root.
Burn the disc and play it

Dear all:
From time to time in this thread some people has referred problems with subtitles, but no replies were given that can help.
I have myself some experience on this. My first two tests went ok, the third witout subtitles in the end (some mistake I did?), and the last, with Matrix, subtitles in the end of the movie are a few seconds out of sync (in this thread someone complains about the same problem with Matrix).
So, the question is are these problems related with some bug of the program? Is there anything that we can do to sync subtitles? -
Follow this guide for getting subtitles in sync using DVDMaestro.
http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/maestro2.htm
A quote from the guide:
You MUST NOT import the subtitles when the other video file is on the timeline! They will NEVER be in sync if you do, even if you replace the file with the “output-drop.m2v” file later.
Read the guide to see how this is done for "force film" projects. -
@ mosh
Hi, I followed your instructions as best as I could, but I'm still getting the audio lagging behind on the movie. The movie itself looks fine, the audio track sounds fine, it's just that they aren't in sync with one another.
I was attempting to burn The Great Escape, a region 1 disk. I did as instructed and created an ISO and made it region free but for whatever reason I'm still plagued with the lagging audio. -
@ mosh
I thought I'd mention one additional thing. The movie starts out seemingly in sync, I noticed when I was previewing the movie in Ifoedit however that it seems like the video is running a bit faster than normal, I'd assume from the compressing??? The audio seems to get further and further behind as the movie goes on.
I also tried to remux the movie with Maestro and when I did that I ended up with the same situation so apparently the glitch is occurring prior to that step.
Thanks for any additional help -
Greetings
As indicated in my last message, I have finally figured out how to author in DVDMaestro to get the right chapters and subtitles.
Now all the information is contained in the following guide that has already been published at doom9, but I can confirm now that this process works perfectly with DVD2DVD-R. This is the first time I have now been able to use DVD2DVD-R to complete the process start to finish with EVERYTHING working perfectly.
http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/maestro2.htm
The basic process depends critically on making TWO pulldown files as indicated in the reference above. Basically after DVD2DVD-R has completed its last step (CCE encoding) you must run two pulldown's.
run these two pulldowns
pulldown video_0xE0_NEW.M2V output.m2v -prog_frames p
pulldown video_0xE0_NEW.M2V output-drop.m2v -prog_frames p -drop_frame true
also create the chapters with ChapterXtractor (using the Maestro output option) and create subtitles using SubRip. Both are adequately discussed in the reference above (or visit doom9 for more info).
Now here's the good stuff. Open DVDMaestro. change the default "4:3" setting to "16:9 LB/PS" in the lower part of the screen. Import all our media assets. That means import the two pulldown files you just made plus the audio file made by DVD2DVD-R. Maestro will take a while as it verifies these files.
Once they have been imported, place the "output.m2v" video file on the timeline and then also place our audio file. Next righ-click on the chapter section (near top) and import your *.chp file that was made with ChapterXtractor. You should get a message back from Maestro that the chapters have been created.
NOW ... (super important) once the chapters have been imported REMOVE the video file from the timeline (click on the video file and press delete). NOW place output-drop.m2v on the timeline and then NEXT right-click on the subtitle line and import your *.SON subtitle file that you created with SubRip. One final thing to get the Subtitle colors right ... click on any subtitle that got imported. In Maestro's subtitle editor, click on "Edit Pallete" which is near the bottom of the box. Now click the "Load" button. You can now import an additional file created by SubRip that has the *.spf extension. After loading your subtitle colors are as you previously set them in SubRip.
Now you're ready to compile in DVDMaestro.
I realize this is very brief, but most of you will probably be able to use this information to successfully author in Maestro and will now be rewarded with subtitles and correctly placed chapters. I have checked and audio is also perfectly synced.
Cheers -
First off I would to thank -BK- for the advise. It worked good on a +RW disc. But, the new problem I am having is that my drive will detect a blank DVD-R. I brought some CompUSA brand. Does anyone know if they are any good. I am using RecordNow Max.
My drive is a Sony DRU 500a.
Am I not doing something? NEED SOME MORE HELP! -
@redwingnut
Have you got another movie to try because i read somewhere that pearl harbour has a prob with syncing audio, and the great escape could suffer from the same thing.
when you are ripping are you using force film option in dvd2dvdr, this is for NTSC films, because it rips movie at 24 fps and with this ticked it will run Pulldown on the movie to correct this and return movie to original fps of 29.xx.
to test this put ripped .m2v file into maestro and compare running time to original movie to see if ripped movie is shorter. If ripped movie is shorter you will need to run Pulldown on it to correct this.
Dvd2dvdr 1.3.3 has pulldown built into it, so get this version
at 24fps the whole movie will be there but it will be running slightly faster than normal and over time of the movie playing, it could be losing sync with the audio due to the movies missing frames.
other than this there is nothing else i can think of why it is losing sync. -
Hi,
I just ran into this problem, where I get "Subsrcipt out of range" error message after Checking Aduiostream and removing delay from file.
Any ideas what those this mean? I'm trying copy monster Inc. -
@robw
Thank you, you are a genius!
I was just wondering what else I could use since ifoedit is completely useless because of the bug it has (playing to movie to fast)
And since all the movies I rip have subtitles, i needed that option bad...
thanks again, hopefully, I will make a nice dvd2dvd-r tutorial with Maestro.
thanks again for all your research and posting your finds, makes my life and evryones else much easier!
thanks again

@ mosh
The three movies I've tried are The Great Escape, Papillon, and The Magnificent Seven and all three have come out the same. All were region 1 discs. I hadn't noticed the faster look to the other two movies but when I tested The Great Escape I noticed that the people seemed to be walking and moving a bit faster than what they should have. Mind you, it was very slight.
I have downloaded DVD2DVDR 1.3.3 and I'm currently doing your first step of ripping the ISO of 'Bandits'. I'm going to give it another try.
Yes, I did have the force film option ticked. Thanks for the reply. We'll see how this one comes out. -
Doesn't TMPGEnc do pulldown automatically? This seems to be a sore spot with CCE. I noticed somebody previously posted this link:
http://digital-forums.com/dvd2dvdr/intro.htm which uses TMPGEnc instead.
Would it be easier just to use that method? Or perhaps the author can include TMPGEnc support instead of the cumbersome CCE.
Just a thought.

This program is great my only concern is the riping process is Sloooow my phillips dvd was riping in around 40 mins but i had to get a new drive a Pioneer A05 and riping is around 3 hours as it is locked to 2X I would like to rip using something else like DVD Decrypter wich is going at around 40 mins with the pioneer but there seems to be only the option of ripping from disk with the program any help
-

I don't think so. I believe the problem is a basic issue with DVDMaestro and perhaps Scenarist too. DVD subtitles specify both frame numbers and timecodes in order to synchronize with the video. It seems that this hybrid nature of the stream is confusing Maestro.
With the drop_frame setting, Pulldown is converting a 30 fps timing into the required NTSC standard of 29.97 fps. This difference of 0.03 frames/second are getting counted and when they finally add up to one video frame, a frame gets skipped. In essence DROP_FRAME provides a slowed down playback from a pure 30 fps to the correct NTSC 29.97 fps.
In an MPEG-2 domain, this means that the 00 and 01 frames are dropped or SKIPPED from time code, at the start of each minute except minutes which are even multiples of 10.
Reference: http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/synch.htm
So the bottom line is that I don't believe we can get around this issue by switching to a different encoder. The solution would need to come from a different authoring software. -
@MrBlond
It is very simple to rip to an ISO file using DVDDecrypter. Once you have the ISO file on your hard disk you can mount it as a virtual drive using Daemon and then away you go with DVD2DVD-R. -
Ifoedit failed me once too often with buffer underruns, subs dissappearing halfway through the movie, incorrect total time etc, so I searched and printed every guide I could find on Maestro, got my reading glasses and studied and experimented through the whole weekend.
And when I got here to post the (happy) results, I saw that robw had beaten me to it
I aggree and confirm everything he posted.
Except ,being lazy, even if it means an extra rip, I use good ol' DVD2SVCD to do the CCE stuff for me automatically. (Too bad it doesn't extract DTS..) By using it, I have the two CCE files (pulldowned and not) just by clicking on a button.
That little jewel of a program has only failed me on those ^*#%%%# 2 first seasons of STNG, NOTHING ELSE!! And I do both NTSC and PAL movie backups.
Anyway, I only wanted to add two things:
1. If the movie shows wrong time, even if YOU ARE SURE it is - plays OK, just remove the IFOs to a different folder and leave just the VOBS. Open ifoedit, click on "make IFOs", open the first of the VOBs and let it work. Afterwards, correct the colour of the subs the usual way, and define the audio streams, if the definitions have been lost. This has worked on two NTSC movies I had for experimenting on the hard disc.
PLUS, those two otherwise perfect movies, COULD NOT BE PLAYED on my extra picky Philips 743. After this little trick, the 743 was happy to play them.
2. Just for people that have been suffering from the Subtitle Blues*: In Subrip, you get the option to add to, subtract to or stretch the total subtitle time. The trick is to leave it running (open, minimised) after the rip & save, so you won't have to rip the subs again, and can easily change the times in the file, as subrip cannot open nor edit the subtitle file it has made (!!!). The procedure involves either reviewing in Maestro's Real View (which I haven't- BTW, has anyone confirmed that by using Matrox's DVD player, one can have Real View?) or checking the finished movie on Power DVD. Of course, that means re-doing the project, but hey! You have a perfect backup afterwards!!
Happy encodings
*Although with robw's proposed method you will have no problem
