Are your chapters perfectly synced using Scenarist mine seem to be off if i had to re-encode. If i do not re-encode then they are perfectly placed.
Just curious

I did actually have to use that patch once. I have 5 computers and one of these I use to do DVD BUs has an AMD processor. I did run into the same error you have, so I did have to patch it and If I remember right it was with V1.3.5.
********* BUT **********
Soon after installing the patch I had to reinstall WinXP, and since the reinstall I have not had to install that patch, why I don't know. It didn't make any sense to me at all. It didn't happen all the time, but at times I got that error. Since the WinXP reinstall niether V1.3.5 or the lastest version has acted up like that since....... /me shrugs ...... and keeps fingers crossed. Good luck bro......sFX WE -
thanks for the info sfxwe. I'm really perplexed as to why this is ONLY seemingly happening with me. I'll wait on ArrogantBastard's results later...but i'm gonna bet 1.4.6 works flawleslly for him as well. I'm very reluctant to apply a patch to a program where I am unsure if the patch should be set...especially without knowing if the CRC 32 check this patch "disables" is needed with CCE. Again though..this problem is ONLY happening with version 1.4.6 and NOT 1.3.2. It happens EVERY time with 1.4.6...I am now 0 FOR 4 with 1.4.6 but 4-0 with 1.3.2
At least i'm back up to batting .500 huh? lol...anyway, the ONLY other thing I can think of..and i'm sure this isn't a problem...but I downloaded 1.4.6 from Wayne's kickme site. I think i'm gonna uninstall 1.4.6 and download it again from ChatWalker's official site. Again, I seriously DOUBT this has anything to do with it...but I can't figure out why I am the ONLY person having these issues and noone else is. -
trust me i would just patch CCE and forget about it, i have patched my CCE 2.50 and my backups with 1.4.6 are perfect, theres nothing differnet between the patched and unpatched version, except the patched version dont check for CRC errors.
Curious as i dont know, does the ECL file hold information about CPU speed or anything like that what can change on the second pass due to overclocking?http://dvd.coldpie.com - where you can download versions of DVD2DVDR. -
anyone know what the problem with ChatWalker's site "download" section is? The reason I downloaded from Wayne's site to begin with is because when I went to download 1.4.6 from Chat Walker's site..I could only download 546 bytes a second! I figured everything should be fine now..almost a week later..and the same thing...anyone else notice this?
@Wayne...thanks again for your advice..but try and understand my perspective. I don't doubt the patch will work..at least I would hope it would...all i'm saying is if this is an issue with CCE, why am I NOT experiencing this issue with version 1.3.2? As I said, I also don't get this CRC/checksum error with DVD2SVCD either....why? If I got this error with other versions or programs that utitlized CCE, then it would be a no brainer.
But to have no problems with 1.3.2 makes me wonder what could be causing this. I doubt it has anything to do with overclocking..because if it did, then version 1.3.2 is working fine on a overclocked system, as is DVD2SVCD. It must be something else..I just don't know what. Also, I haven't heard anyone specify the "importance" of the CRC 32/CHECKSUM function of CCE.
With virtually no information on this, I think I would rather continue to use version 1.3.2 WITH CRC32 checking in CCE, as opposed to a newer version like 1.4.6 where these CRC errors are on every attempt. Think about this...the ONLY difference that means anything to me from version 1.3.2 to 1.4.6 is the function of pulldown and progressive frames being able to be run automatically. That isn't a big enough difference to make me want to run this patch without a little more info. -
from chatwalkers site I learned that version 1.4.6 has a small error that is fixed in 1.4.7. This error causes a problem when CCE starts up and then fails.
The issue is caused when the designation of a non-removable disk designation contains a blank. If you rename the drive without a blank this issue is avoided. -
@robw, when you say nonremovable disk..are you referring to the Hard Drive? Also, when you say a "blank" do you mean a "space" between the name of the drive? If so, i'm not sure this would help my problem as DVD2DVDR has no problem starting CCE, the problem is when it gets to the first pass of a 2 pass VBR film.

Yes I noticed Chatwalkers site is very slow on the downloads.

@All
Good morning. My latest backup ran flawlessly using 1.4.6. I have not checked the chapters though. That is something I will have to look into.
But for the most part... Everything ran great. Total time was about 5.5 hours (which is a little on the slow side). I lost at least 10% of speed because of the bug in MpegDecoder.dll, but it ran smoothly. And that is what I needed.
You were all correct. Scenarist is a breeze once the script is written. I authored two on Sunday and the were great. Only thing to do is check the chapter points. I'll do that on Friday (because I am travelling again).
Unfortunately I did not have time to test the IFOEdit with the modified pulldown. I can say with certainty that it does not solve audio sync issues that are caused by MpegDeoder.dll. But I am curious about IFOEdit, so I'll play a little bit.
I'll be sticking with 1.4.6 for a while. The only other thing I would want is subtitle integration for Scenarist. Chatwalker seems to know about it so hopefully it will eventually make it to the top of his list.
If anybody else is testing... Keep us informed.

I agree. I'm having excellent results with 1.4.6. I ran into only one problem video that was not pure film but a "hybrid". This video was out of sync in DVD2DVD-r. I redid this video using DVD2SVCD which does automatic selection of "film" or "IVTC". In this case it chose IVTC which is (as DVD2SVCD states) slower than hell. (actually I'm not so sure show slow that actually is).
So, if I have enough time I will look into this video some more to see if there is a way for DVD2DVD-r to handle it. The name of the video was Kate & Leopold. By the way, I'm not the first to find this movie with extensive seamless branching a challenge. See:
https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=126186&highlight=kate+leopold -
I managed to get one DVD to author with Scenarist. The rest of them give me all sorts of crazy errors like times being different, etc. Hopefully this is related to the NTSC script problem Ive seen Chatwalker mention on his forums.
-
@KungFUCow
Make sure u are setting n/m to 4 in the encoder options. (if you are doing ntsc and using Scenarist)
(just in case you missed that)
-
I probably didn't. Some of the encoder options are like greek to me so I leave them at their default. I'll give one of my problem films a try and see if that has any impact.
Thanks! -
If anyone is having trouble with their chapters when authoring with Scenarist have a look at a post i made on Chatwalkers site.
http://www.dvd2dvd-r.de/modules.php?op=modload&name=eBoard&file=viewthread&tid=2097
It may seem a little clumsy, but its a fix. I'm hoping someone can improove upon it. Maybe chatwalker. All in all I think it's still better than Meastro, even with having to do this extra step. -
Just finished The Count of Monte Cristo with the newest version and everything went very well, audio is in sync and so are the subtitles and chapter points, I did use meastro to Author because I like to do it all manually.
Thanks alot,

@sfxwe, lol..I hear ya' brutha. I'm fallin' wayyyy behind because of this crap. As I said, 1.3.2 does me just fine, as long as I run Pulldown 'WITH' progressive frames afterwards. I'd still like to test the newest versions with everyone, but i'm just a squirrel tryin' to get a nut right about now.
Hey, the "one" computer you said you ran that CCE patch on..is that the ONLY computer you have been using version 1.4.6 with? Or do you use any of your other 4 computers with CCE and version 1.4.6? -
I actually run DVD2DVDr on 2 of them.....1. Has Athlon and 2. has INTEL
sFX WE -
lol....do both of the computers have the "patch" on them..or just the ATHLON? Are you saying your INTEL computer DOES NOT have that patch installed? If so, then this just validates my point that I too should NOT have to run the patch.

Hi guys,
I am confused about something (NTSC) what were we running pulldown with the -prog_p switch for? Wasn't it for when we author in Maestro, and we want to import the chapters without an error message?
It's funny cause the last 3 films i authored in Maestro, I was able to import the chapters with only a plain vanilla pulldown, no switches. I could have swore it didnt work in the past.
Only thing i have done differently is that i changed n/m to 4 in the encoder options.
Couls somewhat tell me if its ok not to use swithces on the pulldown (no subs) I mean the result looks ok to me but maybe I'm missing something? -

I couldn't get through this entire thread, but have one lingering question:
"Why would you want to use this program vs. the other choices out there?"
What's the advantage, if any, over IC, DVD2One of DVD95?
Thanks -
@defense
Right now bro, I am nor running the patch on either computer. I reinstalled XP Pro and then when I installed DVD2DVDr I DID NOT install the CCE patch. So both computers run DVD2DVDr without the CCE patch.
At one time though, I did have to run the CCE patch on the Athlon computer.sFX WE -
@cephraim
Your kidding right? I guess let me ask it this way........ What kind of vehicle do you drive and why? What advantage whould you have over driving a vehicle over a bike?
It is based on personal preference, thats all. Each program has its +'s and -'s. The people posting in this thread apparently like this killer program.sFX WE -

PRO's - QUALITY of the encoded video, ( Can't tell the origanal from the backup) Thats how good it is.
CON's The time it takes to encode the video, But hey when ur in bed who cares.http://dvd.coldpie.com - where you can download versions of DVD2DVDR. -

@ Wayne, I do appreciate that info...you are alright buddy!But two things. First, that one message on the afterdawn forum wasn't from anyone using DVD2DVDR along with CCE, because the message was posted in JULY of 2002, and DVD2DVDR wasn't introduced by ChatWalker until November.
Also, even we say that "one" post is hard evidence of it happening on P4's, then the ONE question I've been asking all along is..why does it NOT happen with version 1.3.2-1.3.5? It has NEVER happened with those versions, especially when I can say i've used 1.3.2 for 90% of my reencoded backups, without a hitch. So that just shoots down the entire OVERCLOCKING and MEMORY OC'd and P4 thing right there. At least for "me" it does.
However, from your translation, I read something about AviSynth....I know we are using a new version, 2.08 I believe, I guess it's possible it's avisynth which is causing this? As I said, it CAN'T be a P4 thing or an OC thing alone, because it NEVER happens on 1.3.2, or 1.3.5. -
@cephraim
Ok if you are totaly serious as to why I will give ya my opinion:
DVD2DVDr is IMHO a very good program for backing up most types of DVDs that are to BIG to fit on a DVDr without having to be recompressed.
Example:
CastAway I would probably split to 2 DVDs as it is a very long movie.
LOTR I would probably split to 2 DVDs as it is a very long movie.
3000 Miles To GraceLand I would use DVD2DVDr on, or any other movie that isn't over say 2hrs and 15 to 2.5 hours. To me, movies that big I would like to split between 2 DVDrs. Now if a movie is less than the above times but would not fit onto a single DVDr after stripping extras, extra audio etc, then I will use DVD2DVDr.
Pros For DVD2DVDr.
1 EXCELLENT QUALTY
2 Simple To Use to get your m2v video and audio streams
Cons For DVD2DVDr.
1 Long Encoding time
2 Must use a seperate DVD authoring program unless u r doing PAL
3 Must rip subs manually
4 After encoding must burn newly created VOBs to DVD with external program.
5 Movie only no menu or extras
I will run DVD2DVDr overnight or on my extra computer when I do a DVD BU, so to me time is not an issue. I don't mind the extra time it takes and I don't mind manually running the other programs to author and burn.
DVD2DVDr has come along way and I think eventually it will turn into a one click solution for Movie only DVD BUs. The author of this program is Chatwalker and I would like to continue to support his fine program as he has put alot of hard work into it. It think it has a very good future for quality DVD BUs. Again this is just my opinion.
Sorry If I came across a bit ruff, but I just get tired of people popping in and saying "How come you guys don't use DVD2One or IC etc.......?" Like we don't know these programs are even out there. We do know about them and I would be willing to bet some of us that do use DVD2DVDr use some of those other programs as they too are good programs for certian DVD BUs, but are not good choices IMHO for other types of DVD BUs. So I use a mixture of both types depending on what I need to BU. Again the one FACT is DVD2DVDr with CCE has the best quality out of all the programs, and I like the quality........sFX WE
