Yep I confirm, I did it. Just put all your vobs in a VIDEO_TS folder at the root of one of your HD and select that HD in dvd2dvd-r and it will take it.

thanks for the confirmation Neoh, now I need to know the answer to the second part of my question regarding IFOEdit. Do you have any idea?
-
Nevermind my last post, I think I found the answer. It looks like the new version has an option to check "start authoring" which I just "unchecked." But that does lead me to yet again, one more question. I see a box that is checked which says Expert-Mode, can anyone tell me what Expert-Mode does and what happens if it IS checked and what happens when it IS NOT checked. One last thing to note is that I just tested DVD2DVDR's ability to detect files from the hard drive, and I too confirm that it detects them fine. What is even better is that you can just rip the "main" movie vob set and ifo/ video_ts files to your hard drive, WITHOUT ripping the entire contents of the movie itself to the hard drive. When DVD2DVDR detects the VIDEO_TS folder, it will just show you one set of VOBS to choose from, which obviously is the main movie which you have already ripped. This is convenient for two reasons. One, because now people can rip with DVD DECRYPTOR OR SMART RIPPER if they want to and they only have to rip the main movie. The second reason is helpful because when you have a movie where you are unsure where the main movie lyes, you have to open up each one of the VOB sets in DVD2DVDR until you find it. Some movies have 12 or more VOB SETS and it can be a pain to check them all, especially if the main movie is within the last sets. Not a real big deal to check them, but this is definitely more time consuming because even though DVD2DVDR rips movies in 20-30 minutes for me, I can usually get that done in 5-10 mins with DVD Decryptor. Anyway, DVD2DVDR is the bomb and it keeps getting better. Hopefully chatwalker will one day decide to dump IFOEdit authoring for DVD Maestro authoring, because of the problems with NTSC FILMS. Or at the very least, incorporate IFOEdit, along with Maestro and people can choose with a simple "check mark" which one of the two authoring programs they would want to have automatic. Either way, Chat Walker is DA' MAN, AND DVD2DVDR blows all other methods, INCLUDING DVD2ONE out of the water as far as "QUALITY" and "CONSISTENCY" go.

Defense,
Expert-mode doesn't do anything itselves...
Just uncheck it and you will see some options an/or checkboxes will disapear, that's all it does!

With the new version 1.3.7 installed I am suddenly getting CCE errors
------------------------
cce encoding failed: Error: Video check-sum is different from thet of previous pass.
Source video data or time code may be different
Please check video tape or the information file
Please check video tape or the information file

Current: check sum = 00714bcf

Here is the solution:

ok, thanks _BK_, I will just leave it unchecked. Of course, once again, I have received another error with the newest version of 1.3.7 that I had never received before. I was ripping/encoding the movie "BEDAZZLED" NTSC and running 2 pass VBR on the film. After the movie was stripped and CCE started up, everything looked fine. But when I checked it after a couple of hours, (the whole thing was gonna take 3 hours to encode at 2 pass vbr) I saw that CCE just FROZE. This was the FIRST and ONLY time this has ever happened to me. With all the movies I have done, I would think it has to have something to do with the newest version of DVD2DVDR 1.3.7. If it doesn't, then that is some really odd coincidence.
The error I received with CCE said this:
CCE Encoding failed: Error: Video check-sum is different from that of previous pass. Source videa data or time code may be different.
Information: Current: Check sum= 005c19a1
Previous: Check sum= 005c09da
If anyone can tell me why this occurred or what may of caused it, I would appreciate it. For now, I am just going to UNINSTALL 1.3.7, and go back to the version I had been using all along, version 1.3.2. Thanks in advance -
One last thing that I just noticed again when downgrading to 1.3.2, is that everytime you install ANY version of DVD2DVDR, you get to the end of the installation and a few windows pop up that are obviously all in German and there are three tabs at the bottom of the page that say
Ja, Nein, and Nein (something else) I am pretty sure Ja= yes and
Nein= No and Nein (xx) mean No to all of them or something like that.
But the question I have is what are "all" of those messages saying? Being that they show you different files each time, I am sure they are either saying the file is outdated or is newer and asking if I would like to keep it. Each time I just hit "JA" and I hope I am hitting the right thing and not hitting "JA" which is keeping older files or something like that. If anyone could tell me what those last four or so pages of the installation mean and whether I should always hit "JA" or "NEIN" or the other
"NEIN xx" I would appreciate it. Thanks -
@defense...
If you have an AMD CPU, the checksum error sounds familiar.
If so: download the CCE.zip from my website. The CRC-patch for AMD-users in in the zip-file.
Just patch CCE and the checksum-errors should stay away...

The program is in english but the installation program is in German.
Any chance the author could use an english version for his installationm program? -
@defense
I did not have had the chance to update DVD2DVD-R to 1.3.7 on my system, so I can't help you with the popup-screens JA oder NEIN...
As soon as I have the time to test 1.3.7, I will let you now what these screens want from us!

I am having the same CCE problem. Perhaps the solution I posted will work. I have not had a chance to test it. I also posted the issue at Chatwalker's English language forum. You may wish to follow the topic:

@_BK_, thanks again for the info. Just so you know, the screens I am referring to are on "ANY" version of DVD2DVDR that is installed. You will see about three or four screens that show you different files, like .dll files, etc, and then it will say an entire paragraph in German. Unfortunately, I can't copy it. I was hoping someone would tell me what it is asking me because I always hit "JA" for all of the screens, and I was hoping that will allow me to keep the most recent file. Although, that is just a guess because of past experiences with similar programs installed. One thing to note is that I hit "JA" for ALL of the screens, prior to installing 1.3.2 and I have never had a problem with that version, so I would think that what I did was ok. If noone knows, then I will just have to write down the entire messgae and post it in the freetranslations.com site and see what it says. Thanks again though for your help.
@robw, thanks for the link. I read the posts that you wrote from ChatWalkers site, as well as the other links there, and it seems like that was a common problem when using CCE for SVCD's. I never had a single problem using DVD2DVDR version 1.3.2 along with CCE. This error only occurred when I tried it using version 1.3.7. Instead of trying to rectify it another way, or downloading any CRC patch to prevent check sum checking, I have already decided to uninstall version 1.3.7 and reinstall version 1.3.2. I have just completed the same movie "BEDAZZLED" NTSC and as always, version 1.3.2 along with CCE gave me no problems. Let us know if your rectifications work robw. Thanks -
@robw, I guess that answers my question regarding how you ended up with 1.3.7. I wouldn't be heavily disppointed, because if memory serves me correctly, you live in the U.S and rip only NTSC, right? If so, then just do what i'm doing and keep using 1.3.2. That has been the MOST stable version for me. I just use that version and run pulldown on the final NEW.M2V file afterwards. The only noticeable difference I saw in 1.3.7 was a little different GUI and the option to run 2:3 pulldown or the _drop flag afterwards. What other advantages would 1.3.7 have brought to the table, had it worked? Do you still have 1.3.2? If not, I can email it to you.
-
Has anyone been successful with version 1.3.7 for an NTSC film using "force film" and "pulldown with drop_frame" ? I don't think so which could mean there is little testing for Region 1 application.
-
I have had the same problem with 1.3.7. First I started to get Checksum errors with CCE. I don't get them with any other version. I put in the patch, and then CCE finishes, apparently with an error, so no NewM2V file is created. When the program goes to run pulldown, it errors with "no file found".
1.3.7 uses the MPEGdecoder instead of dvd2avi and mpegdec2.dll. Either the avs script is incorrect for a NTSC movie or MPEGdecoder has a bug when used with NTSC dvds. MPEGDecoder may not like force film.
I wanted to try this version, because it appeared to fix the GOP error for authoring with Scenarist. I guess you can still continue to use 1.3.5 and author with Maestro for NTSC dvds. Too bad the developer of the program went to MPEGDecoder, as version 1.3.5 worked great except for the GOP error in Scenarist.
Every version prior to 1.3.6 works very well with NTSC dvds and Maestro. -
@Vader443, or @ anyone that knows the answer.
What are the advantages of version 1.3.5 over 1.3.2? I have kept 1.3.2, because I know the later versions automatically have functions to set up authoring with "IFOEdit" and being that I don't use IFOEdit for authoring .m2v files, those versions are not a big help to me. But I'm just wondering if there would be ANY reason to use version 1.3.5 over 1.3.2. Thanks in advance
-
@Defense
If you have NTSC dvd's then 1.3.3 added ability to have program automatically run pulldown. 1.3.4 added ability to add drop_frame.
1.3.5 appears to be some bug fixes. Some in the forum have indicated some problems with 1.3.3, 1.3.4 and 1.3.5 not completing all the tasks. I haven't encountered those problems.
There apparently is a bug in IFOEDIT when used with pulldown. However, you can author the dvd with Maestro and it works fine. It just takes a few more steps if you want to extract chapters and subtitles.
You can't use Scenarist with NTSC and pulldown in any version prior to 1.3.6, as it will report a GOP error and stop. Again, Maestro has no problems.
If your authoring NTSC dvds and 1.3.2 works for you, then I'd stick with it. -
Hi,
I'm new to DVD2DVD-r. I just downloaded the latest version and appear to have it working (It is currently re-encoding my first movieMy question is - I'm shrinking NTCS version of a progressive film (The Bourne Identity), should I have clicked force-film and 2:3 pulldown? I have a nice progressive scan DVD player and a HDTV with 2:3 pulldown. Will force-film during the re-encoding change the way it plays on my system?
Thanks,
Rick -
Hello everyone,
I'm hoping you all can help me. I am trying to make a backup of 'Signs', it is NTSC region 1. I have been using DVD2DVD-r 1.3.5 for a while now and have had no problems with progressive movies. I have been trying now for 3 days to get a good copy of this film and I keep getting crappy results. Here's what is happening, DVD2DVD-r pre-selects the options for the transcode as progressive, tried that and film had zigzag errors. I know that sometimes on DVD's that some flags may be set wrong, which will mislead the proggy into thinking that the movie is something it's not. So I ripped one of the vobs off the disk and previewed it with DVD2AVI and the frame type jumps crazy fast between Progressive and Interlaced. So I decided, after reading some posts here and on Chatwalker's page that I would try and check, 'Force Film', '2:3 Pulldown''Drop Frame Flag' and nothing else. Well that fixed the video quality issue, but now when I watch it on the stand alone player, the video doesn't play smooth, on the PC with PowerDVD and within IFOEdit it plays great.
So I took the VIDEO_0XE0_NEW.M2V from DVD2DVD-r and previewed it with DVD2AVI it was set to Interlaced, no more jumping back and forth. Hmmm.....
I went and grabbed Pulldown.exe to see if running it again, by itself, on my VIDEO_0XE0_NEW.M2V and then using IFOEdit again to create the DVD would fix my problems. And now the frame type jumps back and forth again and the IFOEdit authored movie still won't play smooth, it's like it is jumping frames.
This is the first time I've had problems like this backing up a DVD, is it a NTSC - Interlaced thing, cuz like I said, the stuff I've done in the past have been perfect with this proggy, but the have been progressive.
Pls Help
P.S. I've gone back to 1.3.5 cuz I was having checksum problems with 1.3.7 on my P4, one problem at a time.

Why someone would use ifoedit to author NTSC Films is beyond me. It has been stated many times that ifoedit will not properly author NTSC films with pulldown. You might get lucky and get a few films that work, but if you keep insisting on using ifoedit to author NTSC films, you are just asking for trouble.
-
Like I said, this is the first film that I've done that I've had problems with, All 20 or so NTSC films I've done with IFOEdit have come out perfect. Beats me???
Which proggy do you recommend for authoring?
Spanky -
OK, don't use IFOEdit for NTSC....
Should you use the forcefilm and pulldown options for progressive NTSC films?
Thanks,
Rick -
Rather than covering the above questions (again!!!), may I suggest an excellent guide written by dhluke - in English. It covers the process in great detail. This guide is specific for NTSC film with pulldown/drop-frame

Sorry for having hashed up old, and solved, issues. Just found the guide myself. Thanks for your help all.

Ok.....I just tried 1.3.7 and I gotta go back. I did ID4 and at first got CCE error, but fixed with the patch posted in this chain. Second try, it went all the way through, but did not shutdown as requested. It hung up on DVD2DVDR for some reason. Anyway, no big deal right. I used dvdmaestro to author and the sound is way, way out. Totally flawless for me in 1.3.4....goin back....anyone have any similar problems with the sound synch
