  1. thanks clairehoward, I already found a link that works. Unfortunately, I'm still having the same problem as I stated above. I can't figure out what's wrong with it. Hopefully someone can solve this one for me. I will keep thinking.

    If you have any more ideas or suggestions, I started a post called "problem with dvd2dvdr" in this same forum, you can look there for more details of what is wrong. Thanks everybody.

    That's strange. I used scenarist mode and it did the pulldown. All I had to do was load the script. Problem is that in scenarist, I got a GOP error.

    Then I tried ifoedit mode, it did a pulldown and then authored the DVD.

  9. Vader443,

    Ifoedit is not good to author DVD's that use pulldown its a well known bug. I too cannot import into Scenarist. I think its the way DVD2DVD-R is setting up CCE to encode NTSC Films, is the reason we can't import to scenarist.

    This program is not good for NTSC at the moment unless you use DVDMaestro.

  10. I am doing NTSC and it sounds like the older versions work better for this....is that true? If so, could someone post a link to where I might find these older versions 1.3.2 or 1.3.3 or both...which ever works best for this...thanx

    Sometimes its the only way to fit dvd9 onto dvd5, so no choice really
    red red wine you make me feel so fine

  13. The choice would be to split to 2 DVDs. Of course that costs you an extra 80 cents for DVD-R, and some people have a cow at the thought of switching.

    I've found reencoding in CCE at near 4Mbs does an outstanding job.

  14. I used this software for the first time last night to backup a NTSC DVD. I have read thru this entire thread but I still do have a couple of questions:

    1) How do you remove/delete a video asset from the timeline in DVDmaestro after you have imported your chapters? I read in an earlier post by ROBW that you need to highlight it then press delete, but I couldn't find the delete button.

    2) After I compiled my DVD in DVDmaestro and burned it, the movie played fine but would not start up automatically. Did I miss a step?

    3) Is the easiest way to figure out the settings for cce (Upper Field First/ Zig Zag/ Progressive) to use bitrateviewer. If so how reliable is this?

    Thanks in advance

    Quote Quote
  15. @gconrad2

    1) press delete on your keyboard

    2) remove the menu subsection part on left window next to where you add the video and audio

    3)so far i have had no problems with movies using settings bitrate viewer has given me 99% of time dvd2dvdr is correct with the settings

  16. @Chatwalker.

    There is a problem the way DVD2DVDR sets up the GOP structure for NTSC Films.

    The Gop structure is too large when we encode and apply pulldown it won't import into scenarist.

    This the way your program sets up CCE

    gop_m=3
    gop_nm=5
    gop_hdr=15
    seq_hdr=1

    This is the way CCE needs to be setup for NTSC Films. Any Chance of getting some kind of change
    so that we can fully utilize your program.

    gop_m=3
    gop_nm=4
    gop_hdr=12
    seq_hdr=1

    Thers is also a problem with the Scrip for Scenarist when doing NTSC Films.

    Scenarist scripts problems.

    The Drop Type=Non-drop frame is always the same even though I chose drop frame.

  19. Every time I get it to the point that it looks for CCE it can not find it, what am I doing wrong? The path that CCE is installed to is the default path, it is on the same partition that DVD2DVDR is installed to (NTFS), I will install the newest version of DVD2DVDR now then post back after all is done or I get the same error!
    Thanks alot,

  20. You install CCE with the install program right?

    If yes, try this in the following order:

    Un-install DVD2DVDR
    Un-install CCE 2.5
    Re-install CCE 2.5
    Re-install DVD2DVDR

    I have WinXP and DVD2DVDR 1.3.4 found my CCE 2.5

    Yes, because the latest versions only support CCE version 2.50.01!

    The basic process depends critically on making TWO pulldown files as indicated in the reference above. Basically after DVD2DVD-R has completed its last step (CCE encoding) you must run two pulldown's.

    run these two pulldowns

    pulldown video_0xE0_NEW.M2V output.m2v -prog_frames p
    pulldown video_0xE0_NEW.M2V output-drop.m2v -prog_frames p -drop_frame true
    I am unsure of what these puldown switches mean "-prog_frames p". Will this work if the movie was interlaced? If I dont want to include subltitles can I just run the command "pulldown oldfile newfile"? Is there any resource that explains the pulldown switches in more detail?

    I am trying to backup Minority Report NTSC and DVD2DVDR says the video is interlaced and im not sure what puldown switches to use.

    Thanks,

    I recently used DVD2DVD-R versin 1.3.4 to backup my NTSC copy of Minority Report without subtitles. You don't need to worry about using the PULLDOWN switches. Make sure you do the following:

    1. Use must use BitRate Viewer on any one of the VTS movie files to get the correct settings in DVD2DVD-R. Do not run on the MENU file as you may get different settings from the movie.

    In BitRate Viewer you need to reference the following fields:

    Pic structure: Frame
    Field topfirst: Yes
    Quantscale: Nonlinear
    Scan type: alternate

    In DVD2DVD-R you need to look at the Encoder Options which are also found in the MPEG-2 video settings in CCE

    Upper field first
    Progressive frames
    Linear quantizer scale
    Zigzag scanning order

    So what do I check in DVD2DVD-R to get the correct results from BitRate Viewer?

    If Field topfirst: Yes -- check Upper field first
    If Pic structure: Frame -- check Progressive frames
    If Quantscale: Nonlinear - according to the Getting the Best out of CCE ALWAYS check Linear quantizer scale
    If Scan type: alternate -- do NOT check Zigzag scanning order

    2. You MUST check FORCE FILM which will execute PULLDOWN. Version 1.3.4 had a problem sometimes of not completing. It would do the CCE part but not exit to do the PULLDOWN. If this happens, exit CCE and DVD2DVD-R and you must do PULLDOWN (GUI) manually, no switches necessary.

    3. Do Chapter Xtractor

    4. Author with MAESTRO

    5. Burn

  26. If you have problems with CCE not closing or process abording check this:

    Make sure nothing is running.

    Make sure your screensaver is OFF. Just turn your monitor off.

    Check all the small icons on the right side of the taskbar, those are running tasks and can cause problems... MS messenger, ICQ, Kazaa, Scanner soft, Video soft, ... Close has many has you can.

    Once you hit the GO button, dont even touch the mouse.

    Make sure nothing will step on your keyboard while your away: Cats, dogs, childrens, ...

    I agree with your method. Only thing I wish to add is how to add subtitles. It changes the process only a little.

    1. first get the subtitles with subrip.

    2. when you run pulldown add one flag ... namely -drop_frame true

    3. with drop_frame you also need to slightly change the format used by ChapterXtractor to hh:mms;ff (note the one semicolon)

    4. Now Maestro will accept the four parts: video, audio, chapters and subtitles and all will be sync'd perfectly.

    Is this the same method you posted last time, because, this ones seems to have less steps?? (for the subtitle part in Maestro)

    thanks
