I've read up on the review for the AD1600.. Now I realize that APEX is discontinuing vcd support, however some of the reviews say that their model is not playing vcd yet does play svcd. How can I tell that the model plays vcd? Can I tell simply by a 'vcd/dvd' label on the front of the player? or are there other ways?

you could always try going into a shop that has an ad 1600 on display and try playing a vcd in it.

yup.. i looked at the posts there.. from what I can tell, I should be looking for a 'vcd/dvd' label (rather than just a 'dvd' label), and also look for a compact disc digital video logo as well. I'm hoping that best buy here in toronto is stocking the vcd compatible models, as they are giving away the ad 1600 for free when you sign up with a bell mobility cell phone (which i'm giving to my girl, so i'll give her the apex as well)
