Onkyo C501 Player - Need Playback Help

I have been trying to play some homemade VCDs on my Onkyo C501 DVD player. The player just keeps spinning up the disc, then gives a disc error and refuses to recognize it. The discs play on my computer, so I don't think its an encoding problem (though I am a newbie extreme in these matters!).

Can anyone provide me with a way to get my player to recognize these discs. (The manual says its supposed to, of course )

When DVD player manual states it plays (S)VCDs it means MANUFACTURED (pressed) (S)VCDs not home made ones. For home made ones it needs to be CDR/RW compatible.
