one of the best and also the easiest is TMPGenc ... it can also break up your file for 2 cd's but there are programs to do that also in the tools section

It certainly is a matter of opinion which is the best and easiest. TMPG is rather slow and does a very good job for VCD. If you want SVCD, then TMPG costs about $48.00. I am a registered user.

There also is LSX 3.5 which I got for $49.00 and is faster and easier than TMPG, also the fastest is CCE.

I would look at the guides and other opinions.

  4. TMPGEnc is the only serious encoder. The others are of very limited use. I can only recommend the use of Panasonic for the creation of SIF-compliant (352x240 MPEG-1) streams, as it actually works without all the damned stuttering no one here seems to know how to fix in TMPGEnc.

That is just not true. For you it may be true, but it simply not true for me and most others.

There are many and many people have had a lot of success with other encoders. Including myself. I use more than one, depending on the situation, but I use TMPG now more for its MPG options than for encoding. For me, it just takes so darn long and there are others out there that do the job simpler and with less pain.

I think people should experiment themselves with various products and procedures, to see what will work for them. Simple does not mean inaffective.

TMPG is an excellent encoder and has loads of options. But there are others that are "serious", whatever that means. If it means, really slow and lots of options ??

  6. TMPGEnc is the only serious encoder. Why? because you can manipulate the output in almost every concievable way. If I was content to simply pump out trashy CIF programs all day, I wouldn't bother with TMPGEnc. But I have much higher standards, so TMPGEnc is the only serious encoder.

the newest version of TMPGenc -- btw -- on dual and/or hyperthreaded systems is getting me about 30-40% faster encoding on mpeg2 WITH filters used .. i have been checking for any quality diff. and i don't see any , but the new optimizations really work well..

it may be ONLY a 49$ encoder but i know of at least two Japan animation companies and several in n. america which produce most of all thier output with TMPGenc for DVD and VCD in asia ... some of this is even mentioned on the the DVD2AVI home page .. i DO use a varity of encoder and pretty well we own every type made , hardware and software - but it can be said you can get suberb results with TMPGenc (specially on CG/animation IMO) ..of course some serious tweaking goes on -- but at least TMPGenc lets you (mostly) .. but yet by just for a beginer using the standard templates - one can produce excellent results ... and stepping up to one of the customized templates like from KVCD can be a further stepping -- if so desired ...

for quick checking and daily rushs and approvals - i am using Main Concept now exclusivly for software encoding...
