  1. You know I was wondering why anyone would be waiting for the Pioneer A05 when the sony both formats and is faster. Plus now Sony updating the 500a to do the DVD+R at 4x. The sony also has a 8megs buffer. I am not looking to start a war, I am just wondering what are the advantages or disadvantages.

pionneer is well know and respected for compatability and quality .

some of use dont give a rats toot about having more than one format , but some people do - hence the choice ...

i dont see a big bandwagon of manufac. jumping on the combo drives and sometimes sony hasnt always been known to produce the most compatable formats .. not saying there is anything wrong with the drives , but its like why i always use plextor cd-rw 's ... reliability and compatability and in it for the long term .. .

both of them burn at 4x -- but 4x media is pretty expensive so far i see anyway... sony's had what - 4 updates to thier firmware what .. in 3-4 weeks? hmmm..

this whole thread could turn in a flame war .. but shouldnt ... both most likely are good products .. i've recomended both units but i would like to hear a little more positive feedback on the sony's ..

  3. It seems a lot of manufacturers are jumping on the bandwagon... Sony, NEC, Lite On, MSI, LG are the ones i already know that either have dual drives soon to be released or have announced they will begin making them.
