hey guys,
at least for region 1, the subtitles during alien talking is not hardcoded into the video itself, but rather in one of the subtitle streams as forced caption.
i think it's in 3rd sub stream...at least for me when i used vobsub/vdub, it was labeled as the espanol sub stream...weird

I don't recall seeing such scenes in movies, besides, say, if it was on VHS, no subs still, y'know. So if I ever went thru this, unless it's a few minutes long... Oh well. Never liked subs.

I Know exactly what you mean! I ran into this when (as you said above) I ripped Traffic. I did a rushed job and didn't check it. when I whatched it I wound up saying "Huh?' Through like half of the movie. Had know clue what was going on in the movie. Than I re-ripped it and figured it out. That'll teach me to do a rushed job!

Can one of you gents help me with Windtalkers, as the subs are also not hard coded in the film. I have this thread going: http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=124249 but no one has answered the thread.

i have no problem watching traffic without the subs. the only problem is that dude from 187. his spanish is horrible. his accent makes it hard to understand what he's saying.

(4) English None of them seem to have the bit I need.
Anyone done this successfully? I usually rip with Smart Ripper, DVD2AVI and TMPGEnc but find DIVDx handy for subtitled films.
I have read the threads about Windtalkers but I think they all refer to the region 1 DVD.carpe diem maņana
