i dont have a dvd drive, if i buy a dvd writer do i need to buy a dvd rom too or can i use the dvd writer to read and rip the dvd?

a dvd rewriter can do both reading and writing.

I prefer to have both, letting the (much cheaper) reader do all the ripping leaving the A04 to do the writing.

dvd-writers are locked to 2x ripping speed! So buy 16X dvd-rom also...
