  1. when i play widescreen dvd's in powerdvd xp (or 4.0) under pan&scan i can choose a ratio (2.35:1 or 1.85:1)

when i have burnt a widescreen SVCD and play it straight from the disk it doesn't give me the option, however if i load the mpeg FROM the cd it then gives me the options to choose the ratio again.

Why is this and does anybody have any suggestions how i can change to the pan&scan option when playing from disc.

  2. I'm not absolutely sure about this, but I suspect that PowerDVD treats any SVCD as if it were a commercially created video disc, which, when created properly, would never require an aspect ratio change.

What do you mean when you say "however if i load the mpeg FROM the cd it then gives me the options to choose the ratio again"? Do you mean that you are playing the MPG file straight from the disc or do you have to copy it to the hard drive before it gives you the option? If you are playing the MPG straight from the disc, why not simply do this all the time? I know you don't get to use chapter tracking and the menus, but that's just fluff anyway.

Oh well, don't know what else to tell you, hope you get it worked out,

  3. when i burn svcd to disc using nero, it creates an mpeg file in one of the folders. when i click on play from disc (putting disc in drive and clicking play) in powerdvd i can't use pan&scan.

But if i choose play file from file and choose the mpeg nero created on the svcd disc it then gives me the option!!!
