I downloaded Monsters Inc, and it is 1h32m long... it won't of course fit a 80min CD.

Is there a way I can - I don't know - compress it a little more so it would fit?

    thanks

If your player supports it you can make an XVCD with a lower-than-standard bitrate. Lower bitrate gives you lower quality, but on some material it's still acceptable.

If you're one of the lucky few you can also try making an XVCD with VBR to try to have better quality in the same space. A lot of players don't support VBR MPEG-1, though.

Ok... I downloaded some templates... I'm encoding as I write this...

only one more question: should I burn as SVCD? Cuz I chose a 320x480 template... and this is not VCD format right?

I think my player (Panasonic RV32) has some "issues" with SVCD.

From what I have read, it should be burned as a non-compliant vcd. Ive used Nero for similar projects, Nero will alert you to this non compliancy and give you the option of continuing the burn.

i too have "issues" with svcd. what i do is change the header of the mpeg2 to mpeg1. then i burn the disc as vcd 2.0. works perfect.

  7. I encoded a 90-minute movie using XVCD, bitrate about 1000b/s, the file size is about 740MB. When I use Nero to burn in non-compliant VCD, it won't burn because the file size is greater than 700MB on a CD-R 80. Do I miss something here, CD-R 80 can store compliant VCD up to 800MB file size, how come it won't accept file size > 700 MB for non-compliant VCD? Did anyone use Nero to burn file size > 700 MB ok?

You might want to test a small sample on a CDRW on your DVD player at 320x480
my dvd player (apex 1200) wont play that reso.
i usually use KVCD templates and change the resolution to 320x240
