  1. Hi All,

I have a Movie using the DivX Codec using the following settings.

    Width 704
    Hieght 432
    Data Rate 136Kbps
    Sample size 24 Bit
    DivX codec

What the ideal settings for TMPGENC to turn this into a MPEG2 format for eventual burning onto DVD.

What are the fastest settings to re-produce the same quality eg I dont want to encode at 8,000 if it will give no visible improvement.

Eg what Encoding type and rate would be equivilant to the above settings on TMPGENC ?

    Many thanks in advance.
    Cheers

    Andy

  2. There is no generic 'best settings' for anything in digital video, especially when it comes to home conversion. What may be acceptable to you could easily be rubbish to others.

Having said that, when converting Divx to DVD in TmpGenc use the DVD template then unload unlock.mcf. Set to 2-pass VBR, set average Bitrate to highest that will allow movie to fit on one disk, use a bitrate calculator to find this figure. If the Average bitrate drops much below 3500-4000, consider splitting it to two disks. Use Motion search normal or high quality or if you are willing to sacrifice a bit of quality use motion estimate search (fast).

If your Divx is of low quality convert to VCD or CVD resolution, both are valid for DVD.
