    hi folks,

after a lot of good (and some bad) dvd-rips with ffmpeg i decided to asked a further question: where is the difference in the bitrate-calculator between mode-1 and mode-2? I guess it's with and without calculating the audio-bitrate. but it's only a feeling, if you know what i mean.

    would be nice to know.

thanks anyway and don't call me a stupid only 'cause everybody knows the answer to the question except me.

    may the bitrate with you.

  2. 700 MB (mode1)
    360.000 sectors * 2048 bytes/sector
    = 737.280.000 bytes = 703.1 MB

    80 min (mode2)
    360.000 sectors * 2352 bytes/sector
    = 846.720.000 bytes = 807.5 MB

Basically you can get more MB of video onto a CD with mode 2 than with mode 1, hence you can use a higher bitrate. It has nothing to do with the audio bitrate. If you burn your video as a data disc this is mode 1, if you burn as (S)VCD this is mode 2.

  4. If I burn the SVCD with Toast with the multitrack CD-ROM XA option... should I be using the mode 2 for SVCD, or mode 1 for data? Not that I have any clue what CD-ROM XA entails... as far as that is concerned I agree with the previous speaker. (Oh to have a clear manual that explains the meaning of all these settings! And how to decide which to use....)

  5. BTW: you only get 2324 bytes/sector in MODE2 Form2 for S/VCD so the total capacity is around 798 MB. This also DOES NOT count for some unavoidable overhead.

    Regards.
