I need a reliable machine for playing back +R and +RW.
Some of you may have read on this forum the business that went on for quite some time while I thought my burns were failing, tried all sorts of thimngs; it turned out that my Panasonic RV32 just didn't want to play the +disks.
If I look up on the DVD players page of this site which machines play +media, the RV32 turns up in the list. So I don't trust that list!
Can anyone recommend a reasonably-priced player that will play +R and +RW without problems, as well as VCD and SVCD?

I have a Pioneer DV-C503 player.
It's a 5 disc DVD changer, and it plays back everything I've thrown
at it. DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW.
(All burned with the Snoy DRU500A)
I mean it plays back the whole disc, from beginning to end, without
skipping...
It's funny, Pioneer is one of the major DVD-R companies... I didn't
expect it to play +R, +RW so well.
I've also seen people refer to some kind of 'compatibility bit' that can
be set on the DVD+R, +RW discs (when burning it) that can make it play in set-top players that normally woudn't.
Not sure though - I didn't really look into it...
Good luck. -
I havent had any luck with my Toshiba SD-3800, dosent let me play +R discs but from what I'm told, it should!

I think it might just be the media brand that you are using. I have used Fuji DVD+R and DVD+RW and they both worked perfectly for my Panasonic 120U model. I was thinking "great", it plays. But then I put in a Sony DVD+R disc and it wouldn't play at all. I also have a Sanyo Dvd player and I burned a cheap o Kypermedia DVD-R disc and it wouldn't play, but when I burned the same movie on a TDK 2x DVD-R disc it played. So, I think that media brands makes a big difference when it comes to play on a standalone DVD player.

I have a Logix 3000 which plays +R/RW disks burned with a Richoh MP5125A flawlessly and can also play (X)SVCD and miniDVD.

I have an APEX AD800, APEX 1110W and a Toshiba SD-3205. The APEX machines will read anything I've put in it, DVD(+-) R/RW from HP 100i, 200i, Pioneer A04 and Sony DRU-500A. Toshiba only plays VCD on Imation cd-rw media and store bought DVDs - period.
APEX machines are cheap and play everything - you can write a movie on the disc with a pen and the APEX would probably play it. And at Walmart for ~$60US it's a bargain. Sorry for no link, hope this info helps. -
i have an Apex AD-1000 and an Initial portable and they both play DVD+ disks that i've made on my Memorex DVD burner.
Does anyone have any opinions on which media works best on most players?

Daewoo 5900 play -R, +R and +RW,s plus anything else you throw at it all for a whopping price at sams club for $69.

I use DVD+r and DVD+rw and it plays in Memorex 2028 and my Apex 20" combo DVd player. So far have had no issues with any of my familys either, RCA and Mintech. Verbatim and Maxell media used in all instances.

I use the Sony DVP-NS715P... plays all formats like a champion. Always go Sony... they play everything...
I think the reason you are having problems with your panasonic player and +R, +RWs is that Panasonic players don't support that format because it is the rival to their DVDRAM.... I've also tried +R/+RW on a panasonic player and they didn't work. -
I have a "Cyberhome" ....... it almost plays everything. Cdr-RW/ Vcd/Xvcd/Dvd/Mp3, more ( and region free ). Cheap & Good.

My jvc xv-s300bk plays +R/+RW burned with a Sony DRU 500 and is as solid as a rock - highly recommended.
