I`m having problems editing commercials out of my captured movies.
The first time i tried to just stop the capture device at the commercials. Then I encoded with TMPGEnc with PAL VCD template. So I ended up with 4 mpeg1 vcd files to join
I joined them with POWERvcr and all seemed ok as there was no audio sinc problems. Then when i tried to burn to cd nero said its not a compatible vcd file. So I had to demultiplex then multiplex and now the file is in sync at begining of movie and out of sync by at least 1 to 2 sec at the end of movie. I use mpeg2vcr to multiplex as TMPGEnc crashes on me (i know a lot of people say wait the program hasn`t crashed but I can wait for hours then press ctrl/alt delete and it says program not responding)

Ive been reading the forum for a few weeks now trying to work out whats going on and I notice a lot of posts say do all your editing in AVI

So i thought OK I`ll just capture the whole movie at once then edit the comercials out of the AVI after capture
Ok my capture card is a Pixelview with a Bt878 chipset
I capture in virtualdub using the PicVideo MJPEG codec with the Quality set on 18 so i can get 1 hr of footage on 4 gig (at pretty good quality) Resolution set to 640x480 at 25 fps
Now I tried to use Virtualdub to edit avi as well. I insert the markers either side of the commercials and delete frames and it all seems to be goin good then when i go to save my edited file it tries to save the file as an uncompresed avi when i just want to save it as it is minus commercials as it already slightly compressed ( my file size is already 3.9 gig so if i save uncompressed i dont have enough room)
I tried some other editing programs like premiere and ulead.
with these programs it will let me save my edited file with the compression codecs but won`t this degrade my already compressed avi?
I wouldnt have thought it would be this damn hard just to edit out some commercials
If I capture avi and stop at comercails and join avi`s together before encoding to vcd am i still gunna get audio sinc problems?
Thanks in advance for any help on this subject

When you use Vdub to edit, first make sure you mark start and end at "Key frames" before you delete (Use the icon of the "yellow key" to move back or forward to a keyframe).

When you are ready to save make sure you select Video > Direct stream copy

    same for audio.

It only takes a few min to save the file... and no changes are made to the format.

When you pressed forward fast, did you give it a little time to get to that part of the movie?

I have seen a little delay at times with that program
