  1. Hi, I am using ATI MMC 7.1 software to capture to avi with a video resolution of 320x240, and when I encode using TMPGEnc to VCD resolution of 352x240 with constant quality 50 the video looks good on the computer. When I play it on my standalone DVD player(Fisher) I get a lot of blockiness. What can I do to correct this or is it a lost cause.

  2. If it looks good on the computer it should look good on the TV.

    Any chance the TV is a big screen around 60"?

    It will look blocky on something this big.

    You did not let Nero re-encode when you burned?
    uncheck compliant if it tries to.

    Did you use 2pass VBR and highest motions search in tmpgenc?

  3. I found that when I use TMPGEnc Plus to encode my VCD and then burn with Nero using Nero's encoding engine, I get a smaller mpg file.

    I never thought of turning off the Nero Encoding Engine.

    I think you guys should upgrade to MMC 7.7 (what ever version is in Beta for the TV Wonder) It is skinnable and there are more options. Including one to save directly in VCD format.

  4. The backround is still very blocky. Would burning using VCDEasy have anything to do with it or maybe the cds I'm using(Memorex CD-R 80 min). Please reply.

    dcapp1,
    you should be capturing w/ a 352x240 resolution. your current 320x240
    is not the proper size, and you are stretching even more so, for TV,
    which is why you are prob. seeing those blocks.

    also, i'm not sure where you got that "constant quality 50" thing.
    sounds like you're using another encode mode. Spose to be CBR !!
    ...and sound more like xVCD instead. Anyways. . .

    VCD specs are:
    ------------------
    * MPEG-1
    * 352x240 - - - (always capture at THAT resolution, and no less)
    * audio: is 224k
    * encode mode: CBR w/ 1150 bitrate
    * vbv: set to 40

    Easiest way to make sure you are creating standard vcd's is to load in
    the vcd template (after you've imported your AVI into tmpg.
    Never load a template first, ...always AVI source, THEN template.

    Please note, that you source may also be contributing to the blocks. What
    is your source ?? satalite, cable, attenna, etc. ??
