  1. Sony sells Double Density Spressa CD-RW CRX200EA1.
Does somebody try to use that drive with standart media and
How that 1.3 Gb madia compartable with DVD players?

  2. That's a good question. I know all the stuff I read about the Double Density CDs you need a new drive to play them. Non of the previews/reviews I've read said antying about DVD-Roms being able to handle them. What I suggest is(if no one else has a answer here) email Sony and see if they know.

BTW from what I heard the DD CD burners can burn the "old" Single Density CDs(which is good)

What does the DD-CD-RW go for in cost? Personaly I think a DVD-RW/CD-RW combo will be a better investment if you wait for the prices to come down(I've seen them as cheap ass 700 for the combo and 550 for the DVD-RW.

  3. Thank you, RobertSmith.

But major problem for me with DVD-RW is not the price of recorder. It is the price of media wich is around $20 a piece right now. And Double Density media is $2 a piece.
Plus, the Chippest DVD Recorder I sow is $550 and
Double Density Recorderis $190. All prices I took from
pricewatch.com. I think price on Double Density - recorders and media - will go down very fast. So, only question is CAN I USE DOUBLE DENSITY TO MAKE SVCD?

Thank you for your reply, Evgen.

  5. 20 bucks for DVD-RAM? I think CompUSA had it for 15 dollars.
Did you ever figure out the price per megabyte?

I agree with Greg12 about waiting for the DVD "war" to end.
Right now no one could play the DD-CD-Rs (unless the current DVD-ROMs could support them, but I dont think they can)

190 is not bad. If you really want to be gready wait for a DVD-RW/DD-CD-RW combo to come out(btw DD-CD-Burner can burn the old Single Density Media) I say it's only a matter of time before someone does that. That way you can burn DD-CDs to save on media price(only think is you cant use it on Old Players) And you can burn DVDs if you want to give someone a movie who does not have DD-CD reader.

Please let us know if the current DVD-ROMS and players can support DD-CDs

i just don't see the point of buying something with a compacity smaller than dvd that no current dvd player can read, no current cd-rom can read and again, and won't hold a ton of video

I agree currently there is not place for a DD-CD but Maybe in the Future there will be. It would be a in the middle media. If you have a file or Movie too big for a standard CD yet not big enough to be cost effective on a DVD go with DD-CD(if and when it becomes main stream)
