i have been ripping with smart ripper (all fine)
then dvd2avi, after a preview check i got 16:9, 25 fps and Pal
i set the priority to high, leave everything as default and the save project.
tmpgenc: i start at the wizard with VCD pal then choose D2v file and audio (recognised as winamp media file in this case) the wizzard automatically processes and chooses video type as interlace (somthing about mary dvd) and bottom field first also 4:3 625 line (pal).
I generally change the aspect ratio here to what ever was shown in the dvd2avi spec section ( 16:9 display in this case) and then goto source range (no probs there) then to the expert settings
Video tab i choose - highest quality very slow
Advanced - tick simple color correction and usually choose full screen keep aspect ratio 2 then check the audio.
Then on to the encoding or make another for batch.
it is coming out super blocky and then splitting the picture.
eg: i will get half the 20 century symbol and the other half (cut off by blockiness) is somthing from a few seconds on etc plus there is a squelch noise when this happens like a canary or somthing.
my thoughts are with either the choice of video source (16:9, 4:3 etc ) or that because im using the wizard that the templates are all stuffed up or somthing????
don't know.
im using tmpgenc ver 2.55.38.142
and win xp + ser pack
Thanx to all who answer your help will be well used and very much appreciated

It might be that you are using a very low bitrate. Also, try "Soften block noise" in TMPGEnc.
-
field order could be switched..try using the other field order
also, make sure you didn't force film in dvd2avi and make sure you didn't use 3:2 pulldown in tmpgenc
btw, you can use high quality (slow) instead of highest quality (slowest) with much decrease in quality but big decrease in decode time -
thanx to all who answered.
i tried switching from bottom field b to top A...no change
By soften block noise will this fix the bolckines in the movie quality?? -
the other thing you might want to try is LEAVE your puter alone during th encode and never burn at higher than 4x
-
thanx to all once again.
i never do stuff while i encode.
i usually encode while in bed.
and i also never burn fster than 4x
i have not tried block softener yet but will soon.
what i can't understand is that i have ripped in the past with the same setup and done it beuatifully. the only difference is i was using an older tmpgenc. I think i might go back to it.
