I have been making flawless DVD conversions for several months using a simple method of dvd2avi and cce to shrink the video. The results have all been great. Unfoirtunately all those previous movies were progressive film. Now I've run into an interlaced NTSC movie (attila) and am ready to rip my hair out. I just cant get a good quality conversion. When I try using CCE the otput is almost unwatchable it has such pronounced interlace lines during motion. Using tmpg is a little better but the video is still jerky. I really want to use cce on all my rips, progressive and nterlaced. If someone can please give me a hint on how to get a good output on an interlaced film using cce? Or maybe is there another prgram that I can use after shrinking with cce to deinterlace the new video file? Please any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have this same problem with Saving Private Ryan. I found out from another forum that the way to fix this was to use single pass VBR and bottom up setting on CCE. Try it and let me know.

the trick is to use the proper field order..
It can be found under tmpgnec/settings/advanced or CCE/video/top field first. Take whatever there and swap it.... encode again. -
Thanks for the reply but I tried that, and though there was a bit of an improvement when I unchecked topfield first, the output is still not very good.

Ok, I have a though...
Is the film 16:9 and interlaced? Or is the film interlaced and a diffrernt format ( pal vs ntsc )?
If so then what's happening is that you are not using an interlace aware resize and you are introducing uneven interlacing into the output. -
Thanks for the thought, but No the film is a standard 16X9 NTSC. Do you know if there is a program that will do a straight deinterlace of a video stream? I know tmpg has a deinterlace filter as part of the encoding process but I dont want to reencode in tmpg, I just want to see what happens if I can take this stream and just deinterlace it (if thats possible)
