  1. I have sucessfully created a beautiful quality mpg2 file on my PC. I have shared these files over a LAN w/ other computers and had great playback using Win Media Player(w/ PowerDVD's codec). As far as I can tell, at this point, everything is ready for burning.(I'm attempting to go to SVCD)

However, when burning with Nero, I get an SVCD that will play in Samsung V2000 DVD/VCR combo player, but not in a Panasonic RVK32-> both are supposedly SVCD compliant. The panasonic will display the picture, but it jumps and the audio sounds like the CD is skipping. IF I pause it and then hit play, the audio is muted temporarily and the video will play fine until the audio kicks back in ..... so on and so on.

My gut tells me this is a bitrate issue, maybe too much kbps on the audio when encoding to mpg2 w/ procoder???? Should I use CBR, VBR, 1pass, 2pass or am I completely off??? What about Max bitrate, or average bitrate??? any suggestions???

    PLEASE HELP!

Panasonics cannot play SVCD. Some can play SVCD's with the "header trick" and burned as VCD, but not all can.

  3. I see that in the compatability site that it should work. There are also several reviews that claim to have used this player with SVCDs. Are these people doing something special??
I appreciate your response, Thank you.

Some people were confused or got slightly diffrent firmware.

What you are seeing is exacly the problem the panasonics have. Do a search for the "header trick" to see if it's applicable to your situation. My RV31 and RP56 that I have access to both cannot play SVCD with or without the "header trick"

  5. Also, my SVCDs will not play on any other PC, than the one it was created on. PowerDVD will crash and close if I even attempt to open the file on the disc. It also doesn't recognize the disk when inserted into the PC. It will tell me I have some kind ot I/O issue

Only PowerDVD 4.0+ will play SVCD's. WinDVD 2.0+ should play them too.

For other players you might have a problem. I have also seen a similar problem to the one oyu discuss and it afflicted all VCD/SVCD's on particualr PC's. They had an inproper .dll or .vxd screwing them up.

  7. That's odd,

I have PowerDVD 3.0 on the XP system that I created the SVCD on, and it will play. On the WIN2000 systems, they have the PowerDVD 4.0 installed, and they won't play???????????????

Where would I find the fixes, or find out if I need to replace those files?

PowerDVD 3.0 will play the pre-disc .mpg file, but will not play the dics.

I'll try and dig up the info that might help, but I think the problem was restricted to win9x not 2k or xp.

  9. A little more info:

I have transferred the mpg2 files that I drag and drop w/ Nero from one PC to another through the network.

THOSE FILES WILL OPEN W/ POWERDVD 4.0 AS LONG AS THEY ARE SAVED TO THE PC ON WHICH THEY WILL BE VIEWED?????????

If I burn the SVCD disc and try and play, it won't work

Does this sound right?--the transferred files will also open and play w/ Win media player, but not once they are burned. I am still using a demo version of Nero(don't want to pay if it's not going to work), could that be why I'm not getting playback on the PC??

Thanks again for your patience and persistance!

If you're burning SVCD and are not tied to nero I'de use VCDeasy with the built in CDRDAO support.

As for your other problem, it's the damm windows gremlins.

  11. I also have the Panasonic DVD-RV32 and have the EXACT same problem as NVOGEL. Can anyone confirm that this "header" trick works, and how to do it?? Thanks in advance
