  1. I capture hi-8mm ntsc at 352x480, huffyuv, using vdub. When I view on my PC screen, there is noticable interlacing lines. If I plan on recording from my Radeon 64 VIVO to VHS, should I resize to 352x240?

no, you want to leave the interlacing intact.

  3. Somethings wrong in your capture.
I capture video to native 480x480 SVCD,
from VCR/8mm, and do not have interlace lines.

    resize will not help.

Can you describe your capture method?

I use vdub 1.4.11 and set the format to 352x480, huffyuv compression. When I load it back into vdub and scan through the file using the slider, there are noticable interlace lines on high-motion scenes. Are you saying I should not be seeing these? I am viewing on my PC monitor.

ATI cards and other direct to mpeg tools often have de-interlacers built in.

Do NOT De-interlace you will loose up to half of the video signal.

  6. I use ATI AIW128 with MMC 7.1 under win2K.
I use either composite or Svideo in.

  7. Ok, I don't get it. What am I doing wrong? I have MMC 7.7 (catalyst 2.3) on w2k sp2 with the WDM wrapper if that matters.

I capture composite 352x480. I read that I need the 480 to get both fields, otherwise I'd throw out half the information. Should I be capturing at another resolution?

Also, I want to play back full screen and record to VHS. Should I play back this avi that looks interlacy (on my monitor) or resize it or ....? I want to keep the aspect ratio when playing out to tape.

If you see interlacing you are capturing both fields and doing it right.

The question about the video out is best directed to ATI people.

  9. Since you are copying from hi-8 to VHS then you need not use
a computer at all. Go from hi-8 to vhs directly.

If you full screen review does not show interlace,
but you vhs recording from ati does, then like
the other gentleman said the problem is in the TV out,
    not the capture.
