Hi all:
I got my (cheap) new Sony Dru500a (from Dell!) a week or so ago and have not had time to sit down and play with it. Can you forsee any problems sticking it into an external enclosure with a firewire connection? I would like to move it between a couple pc's but reliablilty would be more important.

Works fine for me too. *But* I originally had major problems with bit errors on my dvds.
These bit errors were generated by the IDE cable within the external firewire enclosure,
and would occur quite frequently - aprox. 1 bit error per 2MB of data.
Apparently the oxford 911 bridge chip in the external enclosure does no error correction,
and so errors during the burn go straight to your dvd (or cd). Be aware! I replaced
my IDE cable with a quality 80 conductor one, and have not had any errors since.
