  1. I was wondering if anyone has tried this software. Sounds too good (and easy) to be true. Their website boasts:

"Every backup copy you make with DVDXCOPY is EXACTLY like the original. Nothing is compressed or left off the disc. "

I know that MOST DVDs are too large to fit on a single DVDR, but if this lives up to its claims, a lot of time/effort/money could be saved

If it is too large it will be splitted to two dvds.

  3. i know....but i was wondering if the software lives up to its own hype - if it really is as easy and effective as it claims.

  4. Well, it just seems to me like another almost useless program... It's not like copying DVD's is really so overwhelming and complicated. I like the keep the main title, and only the streams you'll use. That will make most of 'em fit without any problems. IF not, then you split or reencode... I also like having full control, not letting some program "think for me". Maybe not all bad, but even for free, I don't think I'd use it, there's already lots of good programs out there.

  5. I'm not saying that the current methods for creating backups are overly time consuming or difficult. I'm just saying that if i could copy a dvdr as easily or as quickly (not counting the actual burn time, I'm saying the 'setup' time) as I can copy a cdr, I would be overjoyed. And I don't wanna shell out $100 for software that doesn't work

if you go to www.dvdxcopy.com and click the forum button at the top you can get all kind of useful data from people who are actually using it. some good and some very bad.

I agree on the time consuming encoding. i use ifo edit to split the disk to 2 dvd-r. if cheap disk work in you writers and settop players who cares if it takes 2. From what i read on the dvdxcopy forum it splits the dvd9 disk into 2 dvd-rs also.

    hope this helps out [/url]

  7. I initially bought DVDXcopy but have since requested a refund. While it does have a lot of potential, it still still young and too full of bugs!

I have found that a better solution for me is Derrow's new tools: http://ifoedit.wh.fr0zen.com/index.html

I have made perfect copies of 5 different DVDs (just today) and it only cost me $25. On top of that, you are getting the product from on eof teh most respected DVD authoring masters in the world!

Be advised though, this performs the same operation as DVDXcopy. It will split a DVD-9 movie to 2 DVDRs. If you want the option of down sampling the video or removing menus to make it fit on one DVDR, the you want to use Ifoedit.

dvdXcopy does work but with any new version 1.0 software there are some problems which they are working on. For the latest solutions/compaints etc try: http://dvdxcopy.afterdawn.com/

You might also look at DVDSplit at: http://ifoedit.wh.fr0zen.com/index.html this software will copy a DVD-9 to 2 DVD-R/W's. This software is also in a beta phase and improvements/bugs are being done.

Both of these programs offer a solution for people with different levels of skill and the time required to learn/use them vs IfoEdit which requires a much higher learning curve.

For a real world example lets take the movie Spider-Man which is a DVD-9 movie. Both dvdXcopy and DVDSplit would create 2 DVD's but using IfoEdit and stripping off the extras (audio tracks, menus, etc) you can fit this movie on 1 DVDr.

How is this different than IFOEdits DVD Split feature?
DVDSplit looks like it handles the splitting of a DVD exactly the same way as IFOEdit: you must choose ONE program to keep and throw out the rest.

Do either of those two programs keep the menus including their functionality?
