I rip/encode using dvd2svcd when I go to bed..
My quick question is, I used to download large files before I went to bed also..
Will downloading affect the quality or speed of my encoding if I do both while im sleeping?

speed, very slightly but so slightly you won't notice.
Quality, no difference. -
assuming you have decent amount of ram, i.e. 256 min...then there shouldn't be any problem...
just to be safe, you can set priority of tmpgenc to normal, rather than high. i've heard some people set priority of tmgpenc to low when they wanna use internet at the same time
