  1. I recently purchased a Sony DRU500A to install in an IBM Netvista which already has a CDRW and DVD player in it. I am thinking I should take out the DVD player and install the Sony DRU500A in its place. I would like an opinion on this. I am thinking that I would have dedicated CDRW and a DVDRW drives.
I am just learning, so be patient with me and some of the questions I might ask.

  2. I think you could remove either your dvd or your cdrw. I personally removed my cdr and left my dvd as Master on my secondary to do all the general reading. Also, you may want to use Nero to burn since the current SW that comes with the dru-500a won't close discs very well. Sonic will be releasing version 4.02 soon to fix this problem they tell me. Good Luck!

  3. Personally, I would take out the CD-RW and leave your DVD-ROM so you can copy dvd to dvd. Your Sony can do CD-R/RW. So, why keep your CD-RW? Maybe keep it b/c it's faster than 24X for CD-R than your Sony.

That would be the only reason to keep the CD-RW in your computer. I agree if you install it and your OS doesn't reconizgned the drive. That would mean that it's incorrect for your master/slave. So, just swap it out and put it in the other slot and that would fix it.

    That's what happened to me.
