  1. Right, as per my recent other posts... I am still stuck.
My DVD player does not like VCDs made from DivX but is ok with SVCDs made from DivX.

So... I am a dunce with all this CBR and VBR stuff and so wanted to know if bitrtate settings can be changed whilest making a VCD the same way they can for a SVCD?

I was thinking of making a VBR 2 pass VCD disc, may that solve my problem? I have to ask as I still do not fully understand the VBR thing.
Will the disc remain VCD compliant as I have not changed the bit rate only the VBR?

Thanks so so much for any help!

VCD compliance means a CBR 1150 video bitrate, no VBR.

Why not 352x240 mpeg-2 and written out as SVCD? Then you could use VBR.

I don't suppose you have one of those new Apex players that quit supporting VCD? Generally, if a player is SVCD compatible then it is VCD compatible. Your source for the VCD shouldn't matter, you might want to make sure you are making a "standard" VCD (ie. to specs., 1150 CBR 352x240 etc). SVCD spec allows VBR, whereas VCD spec is CBR. You can make your VCD VBR (non-standard) but VBR VCDs are not compatible with many players that play VCD and SVCD. An example is my Apex AD-500WM.

My player is VCD and SVCD compatible and everything I make is with a compliant template in TMPEG...
But, my player hangs... stutters... then loses sync... regains the sync...plays ok for 5 minutes or so... then stutters again..etc...etc.
This only seems to happen with things I have converted from DivX!
And yeah, I did convert to WAV for the audio first.
Anyway. I have converted the same file to SVCD and that plays ok on the player.

I am totally totally stumped as to why VCD is causing this problem.

Any further help would be appreciated!
    Cheers.

Yes you can, by unlocking the VCD template. It is important to alter the system stream type to MPEG-1 Video-CD(non-standard), or the standard settings will overide. You can also use CQ. Strictly they are not VCD but many DVD players will play them no problem.

By using the wizard you can fit 100+ minutes to an 80 minute disk. Max bitrate 1150 and min 300 is worth trying.

I've made VCD'S in VBR at average rates as high as 2750 and maximum at 4500. My DVD players can handle high bitrates. It really depends on what your DVD player can handle. I find VCD is capable of handling anything SVCD can it all depends on your DVD player.
