    Hello,

I am trying to take some AVI files that I have and turn them into Toast Ready VCD MPEG 1 files through Quicktime. Normally, I don't have any problems. Unfortunately, however, when some avi files are told to be exported, the error message "Couldn't export the movie 'c5.avi' because the compressor could not perform a needed operation" appears on the screen. I can not figure out what I need to do to solve this problem, so if anyone has any tips at all, please let me know. I am using OS 10.2, I have Quicktime Pro, and Toast Titanium 5.1.4.

    Thanks,

Have you tried processing it thru another program first such as DivX Validator available free from:

    http://www.divx.com/divx/maclinux.php

    Good luck!

    Hi,

Thanks for your reply, Russ Black, however, the AVI's that I encode have already been validated with the DivX Validator. I should have noted that earlier. Sorry for not mentioning that in my previous posting.

If that screen pops up under quicktime that means that you don't have the required codec to watch it. Are you sure that these files are even divx? First you need to attempt to find out what codec the files were encoded using and install it on your computer. Then it should operate as desired.

Thanks for the tip, tgpo, but I am not too sure about how to see which codec the files were encoded with. If I can find out which codec it was, or what codecs are often used by Mac for video, then I will install those.

Sorenson and 3ivx are very common codecs.

Thanks for your help tgpo! I have installed both of the 3ivx codecs for OSX, but my files are still not able to be encoded. Are there any other codecs that I should try besides Sorenson, or is it possible to find out which codec the file was encoded with? If I need to, I can use Virtual PC, but I'd prefer not to if there is a way to do it on a Mac.

Your help is very much appreciated,

    Hi,

I have found that the FourCC of this file is DIV3. I have validated the file with DIVX Validator from www.divx.com, but the VCD export within Quicktime still brings that message to the screen. Is there anything that I can do export this file?

    Thanks,

It seems as though I have solved my problem. If I put the AVI through the DIVX Doctor II after Validating it (I don't know if the Validation is necessary) and then put the file in Quicktime and export it, there seem to be no problems to speak of. This has worked for the past four times perfectly. Thanks for everyone's help on how to solve this problem, and I will post again if I have any other problems!

    Thanks,
