  2. hi,

December PC world issue talks about 13 dvd Burners in market today. they selected Sont DRU500A as the Best Dvd burner available. I do not have any Personal experience with that Player.

I have the Pioneer A104. I has worked great with Optodisc DVD -R media and my JVC set top player. The multi format aspect of the Sony sounds interesting. I have read in some of the forums, compatability issues with NERO, ifoedit, etc. so you may want to be careful

I have the Sony, I really like the fact that if one of my friends or family's players don't like a -R(W) I just burn +R(W). Nero has worked perfectly burning as DVD video as long as you update to the latest version at the Nero site.

  5. Thanks for the input. I think I will order the Sony DRU500a. The cheapest price I have found for this unit is $329.00. Have you seen a better price, if so let me know?

    TIA

  6. $329.00 is a great price. I love the drive and have had no problems so far. But remember to check the warranty and return policy of the company you choose to buy it from. Apparently there has been a lemon or two....(unlikely but always a possibility)

  8. The DRU-500A is a nice burner, if you can get it for a good price, especially now that the firmware update (to improve write speed and media read and write compatibility) has just been released.

I am very satisfied so far with mine.
